How does Mel pronounce quarter?

Moln · 17/09/2014 22:18

Watched this delayed, and managed to forget so came here for a chat so knew who'd gone before the end. D'oh!!

Shame I liked Kate.

Sounds mean (because it is!!) but Louis's sweating bothers me, makes me feel a bit icky about his bakes.

rootypig · 17/09/2014 22:20

Line - kawter! instead of kwarter. It drives me MENTAL. Like saying secketary instead of secretary. Vince Cable I am looking at you.

LineRunner · 17/09/2014 22:41

Oh God I'm going to keep noticing that now about Mel.

GerundTheBehemoth · 17/09/2014 22:49

Sad that Kate went (though it felt inevitable somehow), she was my favourite. Think Chetna may be my new favourite.

I keep noticing that Mary says 'lairs' rather than 'layers'.

toldmywrath · 17/09/2014 23:04

Another one here who was totally distracted by the awful jacket Mary was wearing. Plus, M&S (Mel & Sue!) should get their jeans to fit properly.

coffeeinbed · 17/09/2014 23:11

That jacket was well odd.

Veritata · 17/09/2014 23:56

I've joined the pro-Richard faction, having previously been neutral. He takes it so well when he's criticised, and doesn't get smug when he does well. I think I still want Chetna to win, though.

I do like the way Martha is so sincerely delighted for people like Chetna and Kate when they do well.

rootypig · 18/09/2014 00:01

Sorry Line.

The kawter finals will be over before you know it Grin

Davros · 18/09/2014 07:54

DH says lair instead of layer and lots of other words like that. DD and I tease him about being posh (which he is!)

Jux · 18/09/2014 08:20

Yes, why do Mel and Sue wear such appalling jeans? Is this the fashion? It looks dreadul.

I'm another who gets itchy when people say kworter. Grin

carabos · 18/09/2014 08:21

The clothes and make up are starting to drive me mad. So distracting. I keep wondering why everyone has troweled-on slap and crispy hair combined with jackets that are too small and jeans that are too big.

Contestants in this series are boring as hell too.

GilesGirl · 18/09/2014 08:30

Yes. It's the fashion isn't it? Boyfriend jeans or some such?

Anyway, hi. :D

Also, I am finding it easy to figure out who is going every week. I haven't been wrong once. Not even last week when it was no one.

ppeatfruit · 18/09/2014 08:37

Does anyone else feel that Luis is a pro or semi pro? (it was the way he was piping his choux pastry that had an industrial way about it ). Like someone who does it all the time. NO ONE amateur makes choux pastry all the time IMO!!!!

I'm pleased for Rich, as are his MN appreciation society no doubt!!! But think someone else should've got star baker. It's the 3rd time ffs.

Igneococcus · 18/09/2014 08:42

There used to be an ad for Danish pastries from Sara Lee where layer is pronounced lair "lair upon lair upon lair" but this might actually be a a NZ ad not a British one, can't remember.

Jux · 18/09/2014 08:53

Davros, does your dh also say "far" instead of "fyer"? Or "kwar" for "kwyer", (I can go on for ages like this!)

firesidechat · 18/09/2014 08:56

I'm pleased for Rich, as are his MN appreciation society no doubt!!!

Delighted! Smile

It was Kate's time to go, sadly.

Martha is a sweetheart. For some reason I don't even mind that she cries and I usually hate tears on GBBO.

I didn't like the eclairs that Luis made at all and can't understand why MB an PH raved about them. The blue icing and placing of nuts etc looked odd to me. Maybe you had to be there.

Chetna is looking good now.

Can't bring myself to care about Nancy one way or another. No idea why.

ppeatfruit · 18/09/2014 09:01

Agree about Martha fireside I like the way her little face goes pink as she cries. She is incredibly talented for a 17 yr old.

rootypig · 18/09/2014 09:12

I think it's because she really does try to hide her tears, and not make a big thing of it. Some things make me cry, I really can't control it, I look a lot more upset than I am. Or maybe it's better to say - the tears help with my upset.

Anyway she is a sweetie Smile

Rusticated · 18/09/2014 10:30

Yes, Luis' bright blue eclairs looked revolting -sort of day-glo and tacky! And I spent the whole show staring at Mary's nasty bomber jacket, when I usually love her look. Sorry to see Kate go, but relieved Richard has pulled himself back up, after a shocking few weeks. He was always someone I was convinced was an excellent baker who had a slump, rather than someone mediocre who happened to start off well.

He also seems nice - and I admire his courage in doing rose and lavender eclairs, when both could have ended up tasting like pot pourri - but, dimples aside, I don't see the fanciability, tbh. I imagine him keeping his blue pencil behind his ear in bed...

How can a 17 year old be so unflappable under pressure?

Someone explain Mel and Sue's jeans to me. I thought boyfriend jeans were just a relaxed, slightly baggy fit, not one with an incredibly long, dropped crotch that makes the wearer slightly deformed looking?

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 18/09/2014 10:37

mary's jacket has sold out at M&S Grin

Rusticated · 18/09/2014 10:59

I normally think she never puts a foot wrong sartorially, but that one didn't do it for me. (On the other band, Chetna has made me consider orange Converse...)

ShadowStar · 18/09/2014 11:29

I guess Luis's eclairs must have tasted a lot.nicer than they looked. Agree the blue icing didn't look.appetizing.

firesidechat · 18/09/2014 11:37

I'm sure Sue did a double take at the start of this weeks episode when she saw what MB was wearing. I don't think she liked it either.

MagratsHair · 18/09/2014 11:39

As an aside, did you know that there are not many blue foods because humans (evolutionaly speaking) are wired to reject blue food. That's why the food industry sticking plasters for knife cuts on your finger etc are blue, so if they fall into food they will easily be seen.

Apparently (according to my memory) its to do with body parts & which parts of an animal humans can/will eat. If you think about blue body parts then its all eyes, membranes & slimy wobbly bits which firstly are not at all appetising & secondly are the bits most likely to be poisonous. If its non animal parts then perhaps blue denotes mould or offness....

I also remember my mum doing a weekly slimming club when I was little & buying a blue plate as apparently you eat very little from a blue plate & its the same kind of thing.

So I don't like Luis's eclairs because I'm a human Grin
