Very true fireside Grin

OnlyLovers · 16/09/2014 09:31

Yes, fireside, you may join me but I've got first dibs

I reckon he'd be a fantastic ride.

I caught up on Extra Slice and thought it was pretty poor. I liked the blooper reel from previous series, but the rest was crap. Celeb guests not very entertaining, the brevity of Fran and Glen's appearance was just weird and awkward, and the Diana stuff was tense and uncomfortable.

I definitely think Bake Off is suffering from lack of 'characters' right now. I find Luis, Richard and Martha pretty dull viewing. Chetna at least has her moments.

Jux · 16/09/2014 18:42

I don't find extra slice very interesting the series, whether because there are just too many "I'm fat but eat cake" type jokes (JB's stock in trade, sadly), or no very interesting contestants have been slung off yet,or because the guests are rubbish, who knows. It is dull, the format is crap. I'm not particularly amused by yet more people making cakes I can't taste because they're on tv and not in my house, and I don't find any of them inspiring or interesting eiethr - fgs, we've just watched people who are good at baking doing it, if I'm crap I already know what crap baking looks (and tastes like)... Oh I can't be bothered to go into it.

Put some interesting, nice chefs on who can give a few tips on where contestants went wrong and maybe a few tricks and tips on that week's theme. Talk to the leaving contestant, commiserate, quick run round of behind the scenes et voila - half an hour done.

ppeatfruit · 17/09/2014 09:10

Yes I'm inclined to agree Jux The guests were much better the week before last(Michel Roux jar. anyone?).

It's too highly timed and organised, I can almost see JB ticking off the list of contents IYSWIM like a recipe that makes a bad cake Grin.

ppeatfruit · 17/09/2014 09:13

why would the spell checker make the word that is short for junior into jar??? It refused to write it!!

Jux · 17/09/2014 12:15

Interestingly, I was intending to post the word that is short for junior, very smugly, and add - even more smugly - that my kit was fine with it.

But just as my finger hovered over the Return button after typing the word that is short for junior, it crashed my browser GrinGrin

I've been in the Nordic Bakery and had a cinnamon bun. I thought it would be like pain au chocolat (only cinnamon!) but it was as dense as a neutron star! At first I thought it was pretty horrible and that no one could eat a whole one ..... And then I had to keep pecking and suddenly it was all gone! Will head for the Swedish bakery next time and compare goodsCake

Igneococcus · 17/09/2014 16:37

I spent a few weeks in Uppsala for work years ago and got addicted to cardamommabullar, like cinnamon buns but with cardamom, I could eat my own body weight in those things. In the bakery you had to pull a number from a little machine in order to be served even if you were the only customer at the time, weird but worth it.

MagratsHair · 17/09/2014 20:01

Hope smug Luis goes!

rootypig · 17/09/2014 20:16

Luis always has the most forced smile plastered on his face for judging. Takes about half a second to dissolve into irritation once they leave.

MagratsHair · 17/09/2014 20:18

I agree rooty_ and I wondered whether I was the only one watching tonight! Grin

Dolly80 · 17/09/2014 20:22

Where is everyone tonight? I've never heard if these things they're making now Hmm

OP posts:
coffeeinbed · 17/09/2014 20:25

I love a Kouign Amman.

Surprised they've never heard of them or indeed eaten them.

NeedaDiscoNap · 17/09/2014 20:26

I think Luis is in trouble here. Too nonchalant with his sugar issues!

NeedaDiscoNap · 17/09/2014 20:27

His sugar measurements even.

coffeeinbed · 17/09/2014 20:28

They need to be flat though.
Paul's were too high, very muffin-y.

lisbapalea · 17/09/2014 20:32

I am very distracted tonight by Mary's get up. What IS that jacket thing?

NeedaDiscoNap · 17/09/2014 20:32

Oooh I love her jacket. Splendid!

rootypig · 17/09/2014 20:33

Nice to see Luis's arrogance catching up with him!

Igneococcus · 17/09/2014 20:34

I want to try those pastries, might have to find a recipe.

Cherrypi · 17/09/2014 20:35

They are strange looking things. Are they sweet or savoury?

PicandMinx · 17/09/2014 20:36

Mary's jacket - Japanese inspired?

MagratsHair · 17/09/2014 20:38

I don't like éclairs Angry

lisbapalea · 17/09/2014 20:38

The pattern looks Japanese but the jacket looks a bit mc hammer. I am confused.
