We all loved it here. Ds's are 12 & 9. Little one wasn't allowed to watch. I wasn't really a Matt Smith fan but loved Christopher Eccleston and grew to love David Tennant. Also like Clara but really didn't like the Amy Rory years.

Fairylea · 23/08/2014 21:42

Dd made me turn it off. She wasn't impressed at all. David Tennant is her favourite doctor.

Yama · 23/08/2014 21:42

I loved Capaldi. Especially his Tucker-esque tendencies.

Don't like Clara.

I haven't watched since David Tennant as I couldn't stand Matt Smith.

NANA - Need A New Assistant.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 23/08/2014 21:45

I've not watched regularly ever but I really enjoyed it tonight. I thought PC was really good, looking forward to the rest of the series.

SevenZarkSeven · 23/08/2014 21:47

It always takes a little while to get used to a new doctor, I reckon he'll be fine.

Script was good quite funny bits in there. I liked the only fools and horses reference Grin

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 23/08/2014 21:48

Really enjoyed that, and PC. I have quibbles over a few scenes, but overall loved the characterisation, performances and tone.

Nerf · 23/08/2014 21:49

Cant stand Clara or the Amy pond one. Agree it we better at the end

I thought he was extraordinary. Amazing presence as someone else said. Beyond the capering and some teen-angst lines that were really beneath him I was astonished at how great an actor he is.

Would have preferred fewer self-consciously funny lines - the "Scottish" stuff was neat but a mite heavy handed. And the age thing - honestly? They laboured that point to death.

Longing to see how it works with other writers. But a Doctor darker than Ecclestone - fabulous.

todayisnottheday · 23/08/2014 21:52

I loved him! Early days but Ithink he could be my favourite yet. I got a bit tired of young and pretty. The dc aren't sold yet though! The q&a was a bit dry, we left before the end, PC was starting to irritate and was threatening to undo his good work in the episode for me.

Yes - hopefully the Scottish thing (although I did like the joke about it being the fault of the English - we hear that so much from one particular politician up here Grin) and the age thing won't keep coming up again. It's not like older people or Scots are that unusual.

NotTheKitchenAgainPlease · 23/08/2014 22:03

He was given a new lot of regenerations in the last episode Beer
The whole recognising his face ging was about the fact PC was in 'the fires of Pompeii'
I quite liked it but I liked the 11th hour more.

NotTheKitchenAgainPlease · 23/08/2014 22:03

thing

pointythings · 23/08/2014 22:08

I just have a thing about darker Doctors. Matt Smith didn't get to do enough of that - and I don't think that was because he couldn't, I really think he didn't get the right scripts.

David Tennant had some corkers - his best moment IMO was at the end of the Waters of Mars two-parter when he realised he couldn't stop the station captain committing suicide because she could not live with what had happened. That was fantastic acting all through.

And I really wish Christopher Ecclestone had done more than one season, he was just starting to grow into the part. The episode with the dying elderly Dalek was beautiful and tragic.

Dr Who seems to be about missed opportunities for greatness a lot of the time - I always find it entertaining, but I always think there are too many 'meh' episodes that could have been done better.

todayisnottheday · 23/08/2014 22:09

I was under the impression he was given one more regeneration? I'm sure there was a one last time type line wasn't there? I'll need to re watch (any excuse Grin)

LongFingers · 23/08/2014 22:10

I think River Song gave him a free regeneration at some point?

PushPineapple · 23/08/2014 22:12

I liked Clara- but she has had some really sucky writing.

I fucking hated Amy and Rory, Amy more so.

Nerf · 23/08/2014 22:14

My favourite was when all the doctor s were there and it was the revisiting what happened to their world, in the little hut thing.

At least there will be NO MORE BLOODY FLIRTING

lordStrange · 23/08/2014 22:19

Yeees, quite happy with Peter Capaldi's Doctor, so far.

Steven Moffat is way too complicated in his scripting, someone else needs to work out the series arc, and let SM do the odd spectacular one-off stand-alone script. (under careful supervision).

Way too much apologising for the 'older' doctor, grey hairs, all those wrinkles. He's not even old, and he's bloody handsome!

I'm glad Clara's off too actually.

I thought he was brilliant - and I speak from the perspective of one who watched the VERY FIRST episode with William Hartnell and is something approaching a total geek / nerd where sci fi is concerned. Really looking forward to the rest of the series.

scottishmummy · 23/08/2014 22:21

She did look like neve Campbell

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 23/08/2014 22:23

They are having to sell this series to the American fanboys and girls, so I think there's more apologising for being old than there would otherwise be. With any luck they'll have got it out of their system now.

I loved the line about wondering who'd frowned the wrinkles onto his face, though.
