Gutted, we are all surprised at how much we hate Peter capaldi! Was so looking forward to this! Its pants!

Trouble is they introduced the live affair thing with DT and Rose so now it's expected.
Would like a return to easier stories - so confusing by the whole linked stuff in previous episodes where you practically needed a spreadsheet.

I don't think it was sexism, exactly, because one female was being eye candy while another female was doing the brain work. But it's troubling. It was so blatant that I did wonder last night whether they were building up a story arc around the Vastra/Jenny relationship (I would be impressed if they were planning an "it's not OK for someone who says they love you to treat you this way" development) but I have a horrible feeling that SM may think it's romantic.

Very disappointing episode, far too much Clara, the new doc is a disappointment, DT was the one for me, was looking forward to seeing MS replaced, but PC is rubbish.
And the lizard/Jenny marriage blatant bandwaggonning.
Won't bother with the next episode.

I couldn't understand why they were surprised the dinosaur ended up being killed... Killed by aliens yes, but killed no. Victorian London would have had a few big game hunters around!

Also, the waiter had a flame, like a Bunsen flame, in his skull when the Doctor removed his face, but the other one just had levers and cogs. I thought we were going to have a 'combustion because they actually had something to do with fire' storyline, but then the fire stuff (other than the décor in the spaceship) seemed to just stop being mentioned.

I always think the first episodes weird though, I need time to settle into the new series/Doctor a bit. I wonder if he'll have a male companion this time? Or an alien one? I do like Clara though, I think it's quite nice she's chirpy.

Watched it again today still loved it and loved him!!

I thought the combustion was explained - it was to hide the fact that body parts were missing.

I'm really not keen on Clara still. I don't feel like we've got to know her at all, she still feels odd, like a hanger-on, I can't see her relationship with the doctor. And her dialogue is odd too, I can't put my finger on why. I think it's because it's all very fast but I don't know if it's just that.

I'm desperately hoping there's a good story arc behind the modeling stuff. Up until now the relationship has seemed pretty well balanced underneath the cover iyswim. Vastra being quick thinking, Jenny being grounded, a complimentary relationship. If it's going somewhere I can overlook it, if it was just an excuse to get jenny in something low cut and be all we're so cool we have lesbians in our show I might get cross. At the moment I'm reserving judgement because they have handled sexuality well in the past. ....

The memory of that might keep me going for while when they take it away again.

I loved PC. Hated the creaky, weak plot and every other character in it, apart from the dinosaur. I absolutely loathe Strax and can't see the point in Vastra and Jenny and have always suspected they are there just because it makes the show look uber right-on. I'd love to see a return to some decent writing. PC is the least of the problems imo.

At least in last night's writing there wasn't anyone who was their own father, daughter, mother etc. I swear even Stephen Hawking would have had trouble wrapping his brain around all that River Song stuff a while back. I just stopped watching while all that was going on. I think The Doctor should be allowed a bit of existentialist angst/pondering etc, but no one else. And YY to more bloody good stories like Weeping Angels, The Empty Child etc. Last night's was a clunky, silly, unconvincing mess imo.

Every time there is a regeneration you get loads of people saying the new actor is rubbish and they won't be bothering anymore. It seems a bit odd to me - there's this show you love, which has as a central plot point the fact that the main character can change and you get all upset and claim to be abandoning it )or worse, actually abandon it) because you aren't a big fan of the new actor in the first five minutes? Weird.
I liked PC, but he will need time to bed in and I'll need time to get used to him. All the programmes I watch have occasional dud episodes, I wouldn't watch TV at all if I let that put me off

I don't think it's that - i just didn't like his portrayal, didn't find him authoritative, didn't understand the stupid disorientation - don't remember that at all from the others- and he just wasn't how I imagined him playing it.

They are always disorientated and often echo previous incarnations for a bit. He can't do authoritative and confused at the same time! He got authoritative at the end when he was sorting out his confusion. Give him (and the writers) chance!

Haha, I was having a conversation with dd about river song earlier, she has the whole thing totally straight. She just remembers the details of everything she watches in a manner that's quite disturbing at times! She's 10yo fgs, how does she know this stuff?
