What's your all-time favourite TV theme tune?

Inspired by the passing of James Garner, as The Rockford Files had a pretty cool theme tune composed by Mike Post (who also wrote the Hill Street Blues and A-Team themes, amongst others).

For me, it has be a tie between The Littlest Hobo & (despite it's rather dodgy lyrics) The Fall Guy. Oh, and the lovely sweeping orchestral piece that Granada used to play at closedown (remember those?!) in the 1980s.

White Horses

closely followed by

The Moomins

& Poddington Peas

Shoopshoop2 · 27/07/2014 12:06

The Life and Times of David Lloyd George-Ennio Morricone

The World at War

True Detective
The Sopranos
Orange Is the New Black

But I do have a soft spot for The Littlest Hobo too - it made me cry as a child and I am so glad someone said FollyFoot.

Ooh MissCalamity yy to Boon. I was only quite little when it was on but I still remember all the words. From a similar time Auf Wiedersehen, Pet's Breaking Away.

Bum! ShoopShoop beat me to The World At War.

SirChenjin · 27/07/2014 16:25

Black Beauty - I so wanted a horse, and my miserable parents refused to cough up the £££s required for me to own a horse of the calibre of BB, and The Waltons because it gave me that warm, cosy, cardigan feeling.

SirChenjin · 27/07/2014 16:26

YY to The Life and Times of David Lloyd George-Ennio Morricone upthread. Brilliant piece of music.

storynanny2 · 27/07/2014 16:28

All those mentioned plus from the 70's, "Lightening Tree" theme tune for Follyfoot.

olaflikeswarmhugs · 27/07/2014 16:49

Smallville without a doubt

One Tree Hill comes in a close second

fishdishwish · 27/07/2014 17:33

I always think it's brilliant how all those mid 80s imported cartoon series shown on BBC1 (Ulysses, Cities Of Gold, Dogtanian, Willy Fogg) had such memorable theme songs!

All great ones, Hester, although Heidi and Silas seemed to be on every summer when I was a kid in the 80s!
