We will have to wait for another potential 'giant-killer' match then - Rog V Nick.

Booo hissss !

I am biasedGrin

To be honest, i some times wonder how Rafa wins. I think a lot of it is the attitude. I can't imagine Rafa throwing a set because he's tired, or injured, he just ploughs through. It's not an elegant game.

The Williams' sisters - they did seem to rely on their strength. it was such a contrast to the Henins, and Clijsters- I wish they had both been around longer to push Venus and Serena.

WanderingAway · 01/07/2014 23:04

I enjoyed the rafa match although was sad when he lost. Looking forward to seeing kyrgios' match tomorrow.

COME ON MURRAY. He has played well this year and I hope that he does well.

Raahh · 01/07/2014 23:05

But Rafa is a gentleman on court- and that's what i like. He reminds me of Stefan- self deprecating. Their playing styles were poles apart, but I could watch them both for hours.

MrsVamos · 01/07/2014 23:06

Its almost as if he is a bit mythical, isn't it ?

I do know that sounds stupid.

But its like RosolOik the other day, complaining to the umpire re time. It was almost as if the umpire was saying "yeah ? LOOK. He's RAFAEL NADAL. Get over it".

I loved Justine. Now she played a good game.

Rafa is a gent on and off court.

Take my word for it.Wink

Well, I need to re-charge my batteries. I am not as down hearted as i could have been.

GO GRIGOR!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/07/2014 23:11

Rafa's never boring because he chases everything down and gets back the balls that you never think are going back over the net. And even rallies from the base line aren't that boring. It's very different to just watching unreturnable serve after unreturnable serve. Which gets dull quickly. And lets face it, that's never been an issue with Rafa.

Rog v Nick could be interesting. Rog's serve is on fire. He's also had a lot of aces and not only has he not dropped a set, but he hasn't dropped a service game yet. But he's got the rest of the game too. Whatever Edberg is doing is working. His whole game looks strong, as does he.

MrsVamos · 01/07/2014 23:11

Same here !

Early start again tomorrow !

Sleep well !

Night, lovely

Loved Justine and Clijsters. Was a sad day when they retired.

Rafa

I am glad we think alike. Smile

Damn it I wrote a long post that hasn't saved

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 02/07/2014 07:36

I hate it when that happens, Provençal!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/07/2014 08:53

I need to admit I have been a complete div. You know the really useful live ATP rankings site, that updates the rankings after every match? And how we were talking about how it's a shame there isn't anything similar for the women's game? Well there is. It's the link that says 'WTA section' in the menu bar right above the men's live rankings. Blush

MrsVamos · 02/07/2014 09:04

Morning all !

Annoying, provencal. Try again ?!

Oops, Rafa Smile

It was along the lines of Kyrgios being about more than his amazing serve. His backhand is superb and his never give up attitude is awesome. He was 2 sets down to Gasquet and up against 9 match points and his head never dropped. I think that helped to set him apart from other younger players coming through. And he has plenty of time to develop the other parts of his game. I think he's brilliant to watch.

Watched quite a lot of Federer's game yesterday and he is playing really well. He's such an elegant player. Lovely.

And I watched some of Kerber beating Sharpova which was great.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/07/2014 10:35

He definitely does have signs of other elements to his game although they're not developed enough yet (he's only 19 after all). It would be a shame if that never got developed enough because his big serve meant it wasn't necessary. Because I think Raahh's right. That might lead to quick, dull matches with tie breaks.

It's difficult to describe but yesterday I was excited because he was the young usurper. 19 years old, ranked 144 and virtually unheard of beating the world number 1 and one of the GOAT on the centre stage of world tennis and totally confident and unphased by the whole situation. Whereas when I watch Dimitrov or Dogs I'm excited by their tennis. Which is a shame because I do think he is a very talented young player.

DoctorTwo · 02/07/2014 10:43

Justine Henin is amongst my favourite ever players.

Also, have any of you noticed Bartoli? She's seriously gorgeous. It's a shame she had to retire, but I'm glad she won a major as she deserved to, imo.

Looking forward to today, I think Halep and Bouchard will win. I'm prepared to be wrong as usual though. :o

MrsVamos · 02/07/2014 10:50

Agree that Nick has more to his game than his serve, of course.

But as Raahh & Rafa have said, he is young, and his game needs to develop to become a more complete player, iyswim ?

I just hope he doesn't crash and burn today. I have a feeling he won't.

Very much looking forward to watching Grigor's. I do hope he can emulate his excellent play at Queens.

Great weather today. Its all looking good !

does anybody know why the roundup wasn't on last night? (and a few other nights)
I record it every night as don't get a chance to watch any tennis during the day. Last night tuned in hoping to see a review of the Rafa match and the Sharapova one but they just continued the days coverage and then a brief mention of what an exciting day it had been without showing the alluded to exciting bits. So frustrating! And is there any way I can watch highlight of the Rafa match?

MrsVamos · 02/07/2014 10:52

PS Thought Rafa gave a good post match interview too.

Wish I was going to the beach !

Hi Smile

Usually review gets cancelled if play goes on late. Annoying but seems to be what they do.

As for re-runs/plays of matches, try looking at various red buttons. I think there are 5, while the football and Wimby is on.

I know they have shown replays of earlier matches on the rb's.

Hope you get to see it. Was great !
