Sonia would be absolutely exhausted if she was doing nursing shifts as well so it is very unrealistic for her to be working in the cafe and Carol would be entitled to some sick pay anyway surely? She wouldn't expect Sonia to cover her shifts.

In real life nobody gets a family member to cover there shifts if they dont even work there in the first place. Just seems like an excuse to keep sonia around.

Agree about the Carol's shift thing. No one does that, unless Ian is paying cash in hand? Which I think he does because everyone gets their pay packet out of the till.
