Anyone watching??

OP posts:
TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 15/05/2014 22:32

If you wanted more real then I'm currently recording survive that. Don't know quite what it is but think it's similar to manhunt with Joel Lambert which we enjoyed. Anyone else watch that?

2rebecca · 16/05/2014 15:14

I think it's staged and disappointing. If I was going to a desert island I'd read up about fire making, getting water (I know about the condensation method and I hate fly ridden desert islands) and be getting organised. They must have been told not to read anything and be as useless as possible and only do 1 task at a time.
I was glad they'd covered up in ep 2. They were all going to get sunburnt and bitten if they carried on like ep1. I think they must have been given mozzy repellant as i didn't hear any of them complaining about bites. They didn't seem to be collecting enough firewood to keep the fire going either so i suspect that was a 1 off telly special.
Agree that I'd go for the coconuts and would have been fishing whilst others did firelighting.
The programme does the contestants no favours if it asks them to deliberately behave stupidly.

Bum. I'm feeling all disillusioned now. a fail link

See when the voiceover man talked about the guys with the cameras, I thought they were saying some of the normal guys had also been trained to use the cameras. Not that they were professional cameramen. Who just happened to have worked on survival shows before. Was it just me who thought that?

Naughty Bear. You would have thought he'd learnt his lesson. I think the scouts should boot him out or at least take a badge off him.

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/05/2014 17:35

I have to say that I am surprised that they don't seem to have been covered in sandfly bites.

Vivacia · 16/05/2014 20:32

So the evidence for it being faked is a surplus of wood and a lack of sunburn and insect bites and something to do with wrestlers?

I'm not convinced.

2rebecca · 16/05/2014 20:37

It wouldn't annoy me as much if they came clean and said "the water pool had dried up so we recreated it and we imported a couple of crocodiles so they didn't starve and gave them all DEET and factor 50 so they didn't want to go home after 24 hours.
Tropical island beaches (or even just new Zealand) are always full of biting insects, especially at dusk. The lack of whinging even by the whiny one about this is suspicious.

StillaChocoholic · 16/05/2014 20:49

DH is home for the weekend so he catching up on this and has just spotted a fire extinguisher next to a tree. It's looking like its fake to me.

FoxSticks · 16/05/2014 20:52

I don't find the insect bites suspicious as you need standing still water for mosquitoes to breed and there isn't much of that around. I think the Maldives, for example are pretty much mossie free in dry season aren't they? I do think the cameramen having worked on other series is a bit of a con don't you?

FoxSticks · 16/05/2014 20:57

Sorry that should have read standing fresh water.

Even the fire extinguishers and things like that doesn't bother me, they would get in a lot of trouble if they burnt the island down! I am annoyed that these aren't all "normal" guys. Some of them have a lot of background experience in survival shows.

2rebecca · 16/05/2014 21:39

In New Zealand you get sand flies though as someone else mentioned and they don't need standing water. it may be they are in a rare area with no bity insects though but I'm surprised no-one has mentioned bity insect either for their presence or absence. That's the thing I hate most about wilderness areas and hot holidays.

Vivacia · 16/05/2014 21:40

Some good points, and the training of some of the men puts the position of some of the others (i.e. the young call handler) in to perspective.

Cleanthatroomnow · 17/05/2014 15:04

Ha Ha -- I rest my case. Article in The Times today admitting they were given food, crocs were "placed", 4 of the "ordinary men" were trained specialists , and the water supply was organised.

Sorry, can't do link right now.

Disappointing....but not surprising.

LEMmingaround · 17/05/2014 16:24

So not only were the camen fecking tortured and suffered great distress before it died. It was put there for that reason.

qazxc · 19/05/2014 21:03

So we've had the fire and water episode, the food episode, any guesses for this week?
Hoping they have more interesting conversation than shitting and wanking or it's going to get pretty boring.

ballsballsballs · 19/05/2014 21:26

When's the Lord of the Flies episode?

qazxc · 19/05/2014 21:28

Even though Ryan is acting like an absolute stroppy teenager, I'd still rather be stuck on a desert island with him rather than Tony (the policeman). Everytime he opens his mouth I feel all stabby

TheSpottedZebra · 19/05/2014 21:45

You can really tell who are the 4x 'experts' - they've rather taken charge now, haven't they?
And how did I not notice before that Kif (sp?) has lost an arm?

TheSpottedZebra · 19/05/2014 21:46

I thought that Tony was sweet when he gave Ryan a cuddle - actually seemed quite caring and genuine.
Still bloody annoying however.

JonSnowsPout · 19/05/2014 21:47

I'd of killed and cooked Tony on day one

AtYourCervix · 19/05/2014 21:58

Can we vote for who gets eaten first?

I vote Tony.

Doristhecamel · 19/05/2014 22:27

Ryan is a selfish dick isn't he!

Tigresswoods · 19/05/2014 23:05

Fair play to them all, I'd have voted for leaving Ryan to it. I thought they handled that situation well over all.

Tigresswoods · 19/05/2014 23:06

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/05/2014 23:32

I think Ryan has got bollocks for being able to see his shortcomings, and acting upon them.
He's been daft and acted his shoe size rather than his age but I've done that without the demands of being on a desert island as an excuse.....

Tony is relying on being the self righteous voice of authority. If only he could use his leadership skills in a more altruistic way.

I rate Joe the farmer. He's quietly getting on with being a useful member of the team.I also like the cameraman who helped look for Ryan.

ThreeLannistersOneTargaryen · 20/05/2014 19:18

The best line in this episode: "building a fire under the emerging moon" as Ryan's shorts fall ever lower on his backside. Grin
