The Father of the 2 teenage girls died 2 years ago whineaholic

kilmuir · 12/03/2014 21:46

I am not judgemental about the fags, feed my children or fags?. No debate

ImperialBlether · 12/03/2014 21:47

They're stopping sick pay right left and centre though, Mandy.

SpeckleDust · 12/03/2014 21:47

I cannot have sympathy for people who choose to smoke rather than eat. The programme makers have totally omitted that the painter is a heavy smoker (which he blatantly is from the colour of his fingers).

misstiredbuthappy · 12/03/2014 21:47

Yes they shouldnt of had loans but everyone makes mistakes and my the looks of it they will be paying for years to come.

No babyheaves but if you choose to have them very young you are increasing your chances of poverty.

babyheaves · 12/03/2014 21:49

whileaholic, you're really not very nice inside are you?

kilmuir · 12/03/2014 21:50

Good, grantham chap has told his children

VelvetSpoon · 12/03/2014 21:50

I can't feel sympathy for these people, I had to turn it off because I was shouting at the screen.

Piscivorus · 12/03/2014 21:52

Surely most parents wouldn't choose to have something to get them through if it had a negative impact on their children though. Most of us work on the principle that we don't award ourselves treats we can't afford. I agree it does very often come down to choices.

This is what makes me so mad about this whole issue. There are people out there who are doing their best, under very difficult circumstances, battling poverty but these people who have the power to make their own lives easier yet choose not to, dilute the anger we all ought to have.

whineaholic · 12/03/2014 21:52

Aha - £50 a month on sky!

misstiredbuthappy · 12/03/2014 21:53

Just because you have a baby young it doesnt increase you chances of poverty i was 19 when I had my daughter we certainly aren't poverty stricken. You could have a baby later in life then lose you job

In all fairness nicotine is very difficult to give up, and when all of your life is pretty shite it is one 'nice' thing for yourself, or maybe a crutch for someone who is under immense stress.

whineaholic · 12/03/2014 21:53

All these children are suffering because their parents are making poor choices and that is what is so very sad.

misstired generally and statistically speaking being a young parent is more likely to lead to poverty but of course not a given.

VelvetSpoon · 12/03/2014 21:55

A decent food budget should be a priority, not somewhere down the list after you've fed your multiple pets, bought fags, and frittered money away generally.

This programme is an advert for the govt paying benefits in the form of food tokens...

defineme · 12/03/2014 21:55

whineangle you're quite simply wrong.
Most rich people (me included) are not rich because of the choices they make. Statistically speaking most rich people are rich because of the home/area/class they were born into. Of course some people rise up from the very bottom of society to the top by virtue of their own hard work, but very few-this is far from a meritocratic society.

I wouldn't dare to begin to judge those people and even if I did I would still want to, or indeed feel I had a duty, to help their children.

LavenderGreen14 · 12/03/2014 21:55

Poor choices or no flipping alternative? So easy to sit on your high horse and be critical.

Also the children are being fed - the adults are going without.

And no matter how capable you are, living on the edge like this all the time is really tough.

trufflehunterthebadger · 12/03/2014 21:57

But how easy is it to get to the big supermarkets - all ours are on the edge of town...
All the ASDAs round here run a free bus

whineaholic · 12/03/2014 21:57

Is there really no alternative to smoking or getting into debt to buy TV's or having dogs?

Quangle · 12/03/2014 21:58

defineme so true. I'm v lucky. I can afford to be human and make crap choices some times.

Philoslothy · 12/03/2014 21:58

I have made poor choices and my children don't suffer because I am lucky enough to have good health and a few lucky breaks.

I am ashamed that we live in a country where people go to foodbanks.

I have donated.
