So this Septimus Noone bloke was completely made up? What was the gravestone that Jonathan's wife saw all about then? Or was he a real person and the wife/her friend just used the name? Confused

God - I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who hates it!

JC was at its best as a typical locked-room puzzle and there has been none of that so far.

I haven't cared about any of the problems he has tried to solve. The outcome just doesn't matter.

The Sherlock bit in the first one would have been funny had it not lead to the hanging of the tragic mother. Did not like that at all.

JC is being portrayed as becoming someone he is not comfortable with, doing a job that is not him and seeing friends of his wife who he does not really like. This makes the whole series feel uncomfortable. Plus a younger genius puzzle solving misfit bumming around and living in a windmill works well. An older advertising exec who solves mysteries from his country estate when his wife is not looking does not work at all.

MonstrousPippin · 11/03/2014 13:14

I was disappointed again. Like Merlincat07 I can't even figure out what the main mystery is supposed to be. It's such a mishmash of different little plots. I wonder whether it's all the crap ideas from the last 10 years that weren't good enough to make a proper episode out of so they've decided to just put 3 or 4 into each episode and "that'll do".

I don't really care that Jonathan himself has got married or moved house, I just always really enjoyed the mysteries and they just don't seem to be there at all. It really frustrates me that virtually nothing much happens for the first half hour of both these two episodes and then the little mysteries are so effortlessly solved you almost miss it!

WaitMonkey · 14/03/2014 21:33

Anyone watching tonight ? I'm actually enjoying it. Love Josie Laurence.

TOADfan · 14/03/2014 21:38

Its going well so far. Back to a proper mystery with me going wtf the whole time.

invicta · 14/03/2014 21:42

So fat, best of the series.

WaitMonkey · 14/03/2014 21:43

I agree it's the best one. Loving the cast and the plot.

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 21:49

As if Polly and Jonathan would both cover up a sudden death (or, for all they know, a murder)? That's just deplorable!

And why would Poll be all jealous and nasty about a woman her husband had helped during childbirth Confused

And as if the police would show the husband and a bunch of random witnesses fresh evidence, distressing evidence, like that?

The mystery is good but the rest is totally unbelievable and horribly vile so far Sad

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 21:51

Watch in the hood? oh do fuck off! I thought it must have been planted on her fake escort man.

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 21:52

8 minutes left to wow me Smile

If it was up to it's usual standard I wouldn't be on MN.

QuickQuickSloe · 14/03/2014 21:55

I can't watch this week, I got the rage last week when they had a Salvation Army member gambling. Ill researched drivel now Sad

TOADfan · 14/03/2014 22:00

Why wouldnt a salvation army member gamble sloe?

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 22:07

Urgh, that was shit.

The last scene...well Polly is vile for being glad a woman with 2 young kids and a career, who was no threat to her, broke her leg and had a flooded house.

Covering up a potential murder/suspicious death...urgh! And who was the poor man who died...did we ever find out?

The 'mysteries' were crap. Why did they kidnap that woman in the first place?? And, as I said, 'watch in the hood' oh do fuck off.

And wa there any humour in tonight's ep? June Whitfield's twins were possibly supposed to be the comedy but...not for me.

I have been so disappointed in this series. It's not Jonathan Creek, it's just Midsummer Murders Lite. Sad

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 22:08

TOAD It's a religious thing, they don't do games of chance and are quite anti lottery. He's at officer level and it socially would not at all be the "done" thing. He would be more coy about if he actually had. The SA don't accept lottery money, as many religious groups don't. Within Christianity there is a variety amongst denominations but there's plenty that see it as inherently wrong/immoral

From Goodness upthread.

LaVolcan · 14/03/2014 22:25

The poor man who died was the husband's friend who was coming round to sort out the clutch on her car, because that was what he did for a living.

KerryKatonasKhakis · 14/03/2014 22:56

Oh, right. I remember that scene but ran up to check on DS. That's awful though, isn't it..his family have no way of knowing how he died or what of...maybe it' a hereditary disease they need to be checked for...or maybe Josie Lawrence did kill him.

A body in a bathtub can't be laughed off in a 'one of those things ha ha'! They moved the body etc. Awful. Before anyone says it, I know it's just a TV programme but this is just crap!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2014 23:45

I enjoyed tonight's episode - had a plot - we found out at the end how it was done tho obv rather far fetched with a watch falling off a tree into her hood .......

Then again jc is often far fetched but that's half the fun of it

Saw June Whitfield and thought the other lady looked a bit like her not relising she was playin twins till at the end on stage

Not blonde for nothing Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2014 01:29

Just found on planner on watch 109 on sky that there are some old jc showing tomorrow - well today lol - Saturday 10am - have set on series link :)

WaitMonkey · 15/03/2014 07:27

Blonde Grin .

JabberJabberJay · 15/03/2014 08:01

I thought it was better than the previous 2 episodes but still well below par.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2014 08:51

Wait monkey - I know Blush

Wifey was having a chat with lady and I thought there's June (havnt seen her for years) but looked a bit diff - loved terry and June - then camera went to couple playing scrabble and I thought oh she looks like June more - other lady wasn't her having chats with wifey Grin

The torn knee in tights meaning the pub name and the the on watch was ridiculous

invicta · 15/03/2014 08:57

I thought it was the best one of the series. There were holes but at least the story was better. The woman was kidnapped because her husband was an MP. There were less random events in it, such as the two Scream-masked burglars from last week, who are still roaming the streets.

Icimoi · 15/03/2014 09:56

I thought it must have been planted on her fake escort man.

How could you possibly have thought that when she completely changed the sheets?

Icimoi · 15/03/2014 09:59

Kerry, you really weren't paying attention, were you? They explained that the man who died had a heart condition. His loving relatives know that he died from it in the bath, so they are no worse of for not knowing precisely which bath.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2014 20:34

Today's one was one of my fav episodes that I said about

Maybe bath room next week :(

hackmum · 16/03/2014 11:16

This one was a bit better, but I thought the "torn knee" was pushing it a bit, and I thought it unlikely that a balloon would float with a watch inside it.

The big hole, I thought, was that at the beginning the kidnappers beat up the real driver of the van and stole the van. The police would surely have made the connection between the stolen van and the kidnap, and would have put a call out for sightings of the van, and perhaps traced some of its movements on CCTV. If the real driver survived (which wasn't clear), he'd have been able to give the police a description of the kidnappers.
