So this Septimus Noone bloke was completely made up? What was the gravestone that Jonathan's wife saw all about then? Or was he a real person and the wife/her friend just used the name? Confused

Yes, Sparkling, it has made him dull.

We were bitterly disappointed with last night's episode, I heartily agree with everything that's been said so far.

Why was he titting about with the phone number thing while 2 people were rushing about the village in scream masks with knives? Confused

I liked at the beginning how he mistook the burglars for the couple, and it made me jump when they appeared with the masks on. I quite like the conclusion of how the numbers got on the wall. However, it was all a little muddled. And those two masked men are still on the loose!

was last night's episode as bad as last week's?
I fell asleep- seems I didn't miss much
I won't be watching next week

I thought it was better than last week, in that they didn't give the game away in the beginning, but still only so-so. I preferred it when he lived in the windmill, and worked with the magician.

I felt it was the same as last week - so many different, unconnected plots that made the whole thing feel like a bit of a mess. It's not really very clear what the main mystery is meant to be and why Jonathan gets involved in the first place. And what was with all of the tension and build up over Polly's repressed memory of her dead rabbit??! I love animals as much as the next person, but the hints at darkness, intrigue and something incredibly sinister fell flat at the end, in my opinion. The seriousness of their faces as she discussed it had me in stitches. It just felt like a spoof of Jonathan Creek at that point!

Now the story about the rabbit being put to sleep and making a small child afraid and waking up from sleep with nightmares rang true for me. But, it didn't fit into the story anywhere - the plot wouldn't have been spoilt without it.

Oh my Lord, what a disappointment! I used to love JC with the duffle coat and the lighthouse and Caroline Quentin. This new series is so bad and such a let down..what the blazes is it all about? And JC being married is just not working at all! Not for me anywaySad.

Tuned in last week. Lasted 10 minutes and gave up - didn't bother this week. Very, very poor.

Gutted I used to love JC, him being married is just not working for me, bring back the windmill, duffle coat, Caroline Quentin/Sheridan Smith and the magician bloke Sad

Yeah, gutted that the best thing about the episode was a couple of wank jokes. They were good ones, though.

It's just gotten silly I think. I'm rewarding the early dries and they are so good! Proper mysteries, Jonathan's an arrogant know it all, he lives in the windmill and he wears his duffel, as it should be!

These episodes are silly, disjointed and just plain crap!

The solution to the only real 'mystery' of the last episode, how the 12 numbers got on the wall - namely that they were two phone numbers put there in the 1950's - wasn't even possible. Phone numbers were four digits long back then - maybe five at a push but certainly not six. David Renwick used to be so believable. It's really disappointing.

Kerry. Don't worry you didn't spoil it

Was another crap episode :(

Last one next week and agree 3 isn't a series :(

Jc used to be fab. I would be embarrassed putting my name to this

Maddie was the best

Another disappointed fan here. I think that the problem is that JC is such a downplayed morose character, that you need someone really sparky and pushy to drive the story forward. Caroline Quentin was really good at this, and so was Sheridan Smith. I like the actress that plays his wife, but she doesn't have the energy needed. And even if she did, they've given her story lines where she's bereaved etc., so she's as downplayed and morose as he is!

I love jonathon creek but it just isn't as good now and it was at it's very best with Maddie. Her and jonathon were brilliantly funny.
Only 3 eps in the new one too what's that about !

I did like the artist putting a likeness of him in the painting as a cherub, and displaying his manliness; I laughed out loud at that.

A salvation army officer seriously wouldn't be playing the lottery, and the sa wouldn't want funds from the lottery.

Not that that's the series biggest problem but it bugged me.

Report
invicta · 10/03/2014 09:30

I wondered whether the SA captain would be doing the lottery also.

Also, why didn't the couple at the beginning call the police, instead of being by the art gallery? Surely with burglars tied up upstairs they wouldn't have left the house empty and unlocked.

Loving people claiming that they know better than the person who, y'know, created the character about what that character would or would not do.

Oooh, I am glad I found this thread. I am so disappointed with the new series, it's so lame. No chemistry at all between him and his wife, story lines really lack lustre, I hate the new house and set up. It's more Midsomer Murders than JC. Urgghhh.

Report
HarrietVaneAgain · 10/03/2014 14:08

I'm trying to like this bit but there is no chemistry between him and wife at all.

Icimoi - did you mean me, about the SA officer?

In which case its just fact. It's a religious thing, they don't do games of chance and are quite anti lottery. He's at officer level and it socially would not at all be the "done" thing. He would be more coy about if he actually had.

The SA don't accept lottery money, as many religious groups don't. Within Christianity there is a variety amongst denominations but there's plenty that see it as inherently wrong/immoral.

I think Ici might be getting at the fact that a few of us has said things implying JC is acting out of character this series, Goodness

I think he is, though Ici. It's a testament to the writer's earlier work that he created a character so interesting and detailed as JC that I feel I know him well enough to be surprised and disappointed at the changes.

The writer can take him wherever he wants, yes, but the audience is entitled to notice and critique the differences.
