There's a new series of One Born Every Minute starting 24th February.

I was heavily pregnant last time it was on so I'm looking forward to watching knowing I don't have to give birth this time!

OBEM

Funny watching this for me, I was born at Southmead in Dec '62. Mum was a nurse a the BRI. It was back in the days when dads weren't often in for the delivery. The weather was so bad that winter that dad ( who was a teacher) walked from Patchway in to Bristol, it took him 3 hours, he didn't have a car or the money for a taxi. My most treasured possession is a letter my mum wrote to her in laws shortly after I was born, it describes my dads face as he looked at me for the first time, she says the love was there, and it has stayed. Dad is nearly 80 now and has loved me all my life. I love him too x

Watching this on +1 whilst pregnant with DC2 and probably shouldn't be. First time around, I got all misty-eyed about "the miracle of birth". Second time around, having ended up with an EMCS and trying to decide now whether to try for a VBAC or an elective CS, I'm scaring myself half to death watching it and remembering how much "the miracle of birth" bloody hurts!

HunterWellies · 24/02/2014 22:48

Even if the midwife does make toast for both of you, he still shouldn't eat it imo :) I could have eaten a whole loaf!

He also seemed to just butter the top piece and tuck in. Sacking offence...

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 24/02/2014 22:50

Watching this on +1 .. the poor sister :(

I wonder if she wanted to discuss her infertility on TV or if her sister mentioned it to them first? She looks uncomfortable.. and her sister is just so chirpy while discussing her sister's infertility.

sparkleyes · 24/02/2014 22:55

I wasn't allowed toast after my PPH in case I had to go to theatre! They made some for DH I was gutted!! Envy

TheBookofRuth · 24/02/2014 23:01

Yup, definitely shouldn't have watched that. Properly freaked myself out.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 25/02/2014 09:47

I know all the staff as it's where I am training :)

They are all lovely and I was hoping the editing would show that. Can't believe they managed to get cake into the first episode, we usually don't have time for a pee on a shift Grin

SlightlyDampWellies · 25/02/2014 10:20

I hemorrhaged with DC3. It meant though that the HV sternly told DH he had to cook me steak and give me red wine and guiness every day for lunch for a week. (This was 3 years ago!). He did. Loved it.

No toast for me either. Inhaled a pack of wine gums when in recovery. I was so hungry!

susiedaisy · 25/02/2014 12:37

A little birdy told me that channel 4 filming crew bring cakes and chocs in and leave it in the staff room so that they can film them tucking into cake. They have done it with every series! Grin

MsIngaFewmarbles · 25/02/2014 13:08

I can confirm that is true :)

Shortbutsosweet · 25/02/2014 13:23

Interesting first episode of new series.
My mother was a midwife and delivered many of our neighbours and friends babies, as well as some of my friends children and grandchildren.
To her it never seemed to be a problem but I always thought it was a little strange. So watching last night I noticed the midwife delivering her childhood friends baby looked very uncomfortable.
The sister with fertility issues was also odd, why would you want to be at a birth reminding you you may not be able to do the same?
I didn't think the sister was that helpful as a birth partner anyway or was that just the editing?
I have had fertility issues myself and I would never be a birth partner until I was fortunate to have a baby myself.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/02/2014 13:52

DH went to me 'God, that sister looks f*cking miserable', and then they explained her fertility issues 2 minutes later! Yy, I didn't think the sister being there looked that helpful either, and the cameras kept focusing on her rather than the actual mother.

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 25/02/2014 15:32

suspect the sister felt like she had to be there :(

The way the pregnant sister described having her there because she couldn't have kids herself was totally Hmm Confused

msinga just a thought, you might want to get the posts deleted as there probably aren't that many of you doing your training and I think there are strict rules regarding HCP on the internet? Just a thought

MsIngaFewmarbles · 25/02/2014 15:36

Thanks Ready, you're right I need to be careful with what I say online but other than confirming that my colleagues are great and OBEM do bring goodies I haven't said anything else so I think I am within RCM and NMC guidelines.

I am going to track back on other threads I've been on though to be sure I'm posting appropriately :)

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 25/02/2014 18:01

(Hope it didn't look like I was being funny, just hate for someone to get found out who didn't want to be)

MsIngaFewmarbles · 25/02/2014 18:09

No definitely not ready, it has made me go back and have a look at previous posts though and I have spotted one which probably needs deleting so thank you. It also gave me an excuse to procrastinate on my hideous assignment reading so thank you x2 :)

LastOneDancing · 25/02/2014 18:20

Oh I watched this again this afternoon and HOWLED every time a baby was born. Made the birth ball I was sprawled over all slippy with my huge blobby hormonal tears. That will be me in 6 weeks (or so)!

I find OBEM comforting, not at all scary - is that weird?!

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 25/02/2014 18:24

:)

Star8369 · 25/02/2014 19:26

I watched this last night and when the part was on (beginning sequence) when you see the baby pop out in the birthing pool my boyfriend ran out of the room lol

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 25/02/2014 21:29

Did anyone think that the first couple ( the car lovers) well the woman looked like Britney but with dark hair? I thought they were going to say Michelle had died as they kept interviewing her dh alone and showing longish pictures of her smiling and the sinister music... Oh the relief when I turned out to be wrong.

sailorsgal · 25/02/2014 21:31

just catching up with this and am writing an essay about oxytocin. Grin

MsIngaFewmarbles · 26/02/2014 11:02

Sailors girl are you a student mw too?

sailorsgal · 26/02/2014 11:55

God no! Grin

I teach pregnancy yoga and have just finished training in natal hypnotherapy. Had to write an essay on the role of hormones in the birth process.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 26/02/2014 12:06

Ah! I did a study day on hypnosis for labour and it was fascinating, good luck

sailorsgal · 26/02/2014 13:15

thanksSmile
good luck for your training too.
