AtiaoftheJulii · 20/02/2014 09:43

I don't think it's been very funny at all, but I am liking the way they talk about normal life in a more honest way than most tv. Ben and Pete's camping trip and chats were lovely :-)

ByTheSea · 20/02/2014 21:33

Did you catch the mumsnet reference?

ByTheSea · 20/02/2014 21:41

Ugh sorry southeastdweller - I missed your post. I thought Sue had to be a mnetter too. Shock

Olivegirl · 20/02/2014 22:21

Liked it when they were younger
When my dc were similar ages

Now, can still relate and find it funny
As my dc have grown too

The dad in it is so my dh
Almost word for word

About the turning out the lights thing ShockGrin

alemci · 21/02/2014 22:32

yes defo the lights, like my dh. we have more on when he's not there.

UseHerName · 21/02/2014 23:39

'have you been on mumsnet again? Hmm ' Grin Grin

GretaWolfcastle · 21/02/2014 23:47

all dads go on about turning out lights

Dancergirl · 26/02/2014 21:35

Also loved the bit from last week about those '50 things' lists are designed to make parents feel guilty. So true.

alemci · 26/02/2014 21:37

hilarious tonight especially the borrowing of oyster cards, keys etc.

Sue is so annoying though

Burma · 26/02/2014 21:39

Oh I thought tonight's was really irritating and not funny at all whereas the first episode was pretty good - I was disappointed as it can be brilliant.

screamingeels · 27/02/2014 07:01

I'm with Burma, I found most of this one really annoying (liked earlier ones) - although I found Karen's headmistress interesting.

Olivegirl · 27/02/2014 07:50

Think it depends if you've got teenagers
Dh and myself found it hilarious
Could relate to most of it Grin

AphraBane · 27/02/2014 08:01

I loved last night's episode. Like Olive we could so relate to the constant teenage losing stuff: 'you lost your oyster card?', 'well no, I lost your Oyster card, don't know where mine is'. And the constant drama with keys and phoning each other.

And Rebecca Front as the headmistress was sheer evil genius. It takes a lot to out-manipulate Karen.

Actually this was the first series of Outnumbered I'd seen, and I've just gone and bought the box set of the first four series and am working my way through them now. So weird to see the younger kids and the big versions in the same week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/02/2014 08:09

I didn't think last night's was funny, the incompetent adults thing is wearing really thin now. The scenes with Sue at work were cringeworthy, the only bit that was good was Ben giving as good as he got to the coldcaller.

MissScatterbrain · 27/02/2014 08:30

I must be incompetent then - the teens and I could relate to last night's episode Blush

Teens losing things, best laid plans going awry, car stuck at garage, dashing around town trying to get hold of certain people etc.

MissScatterbrain · 27/02/2014 08:34

With earlier series, although we found it funny, we didn't really relate to them.

Burma · 27/02/2014 10:09

Ok yes prob better if you have teens, my oldest is only 11. I did think that Sue would get the bloody sack if she performed like that at work - being an inept parent is quite funny but being inept in the workplace is just plain embarrassing.

Poloholo · 27/02/2014 10:14

I loathed most of last night's episode. Sue was super annoying and would be on the receiving end of a stiff talking to if she was working for me - turn your phone off for 20 minutes FFS whilst you deal with this business critical work and let the other parent who isn't working that day deal with it the rest of it. The headmistress with Karen was the only bright spot.

The whole episode seemed very scripted in a way the early ones weren't.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/02/2014 11:03

Yes, it would have been Ok if it had just been Pete being inept, but Sue acting so unprofessionally at work was dire, not funny at all.

Timetoask · 27/02/2014 11:05

Well, I watched last night's episode and I loved it, it was hilarious.
Wasn't sure of the first episode but it's growing on me now.

alemci · 27/02/2014 11:07

liked the video conferencing with phones at end.

having my own teenagers I could relate to the scenarios. it was funny imo.

Lottiedoubtie · 27/02/2014 11:09

Sue at work was cringeworthy.

Rebecca Front was mercilessly brilliant as Karens HT though. Would like to see more of her!

AphraBane · 27/02/2014 11:20

"Ok yes prob better if you have teens, my oldest is only 11"

Seriously, Burma, come back to this episode in three years time and you might have a different perspective on things. Grin

"I did think that Sue would get the bloody sack if she performed like that at work - being an inept parent is quite funny but being inept in the workplace is just plain embarrassing."

Well, yes, but that's always been the point of Outnumbered surely - both parents are incompetent at every level. In Series 1 Sue was always getting in trouble with her boss for not being available to take on work and in the end she told her boss where to stuff it and they had financial problems as a consequence. Sue's utter inability to separate work from parenting has always been a problem. Of course in RL she would get the sack or a formal reprimand! Outnumbered is about taking situations many of us can relate to in some degree (once you have teens they WILL text you at work, of course it's up to you how you react to that) and magnifying them hugely for comic effect. Last night was cringeworthy in the same way that The Office was always so utterly painful to watch.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/02/2014 11:31

I didn't think it compared to The Office at all - that was cringeworthy in a good way, this was cringeworthy in a "writers have run out of ideas" way.

Burma · 27/02/2014 11:39

Ok I will do AphraBane!

Sue at work was cringeworthy though and definitely not in a funny way, they just dragged it on for too long.

I didn't like The Office either Confused.

Mr Dennis is fab though.
