I think I may be in love Smile

Do you think the men's fashions might catch on? Grin Not the poncy lacey silky stuff the courtiers were wearing though.

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2014 07:08

I have an idea that Milady was shagging her brother. Which was a bit of a no no even then, when pretty much anything was ok. Broke Athos' heart. Stole his estate.

I may have dreamt that though.

Metebelis3 · 20/01/2014 07:16

No, the thing about her brother was that he pretended to be a priest and married them. He wasn't one, they weren't married. She seduced a judge or similar before meeting and 'marrying' Athos.

In the book, she doesn't know Athos is her husband (who she thinks dead) though. And she is branded. I wast properly paying attention when she was shagging D'Artagnon - did we see the brand? I did notice she had asymmetrically bared shoulders when fully dressed.

I did not enjoy seeing the doctor shagging. :(

Morgause · 20/01/2014 07:23

I was a bit surprised to discover that there were so few available women that they had to share. Hmm

D'Artagnon will do for me. I had a huge crush on his "dad" in times gone by. Shame he didn't last more than 10 minutes.

OneStepCloser · 20/01/2014 07:31

Confused confused here, whos Miladys brother? And who is D`Artagnons father Morgause?

I have no idea of the story but dd and I were drolling heavily last night whilst dh huffed in the corner Grin

Morgause · 20/01/2014 08:23

He was played by Oliver Cotton who has a history in costume dramas and was very easy on the eye as Cesare Borgia.

coffeeinbed · 20/01/2014 08:31

D'A's father got killed early on, it was his death that made D'A set off.
That wax his only contribution to the plot.

Metebelis3 · 20/01/2014 08:42

Sorry, Milady's brother is in the book not been seen in the Telly. Unless i missed that bit. Was a long time ago, he might even be 'brother' rather than, you know, actual brother.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 20/01/2014 10:02

I can't make a choice between the top 5 leading actors. I guess it's probably between Richelieu and Aramis but if I go there I'm likely to get shot - can I try them all out first then make my choice?

I might rewatch it later and see if there is a storyline to follow because I didn't manage to notice one last night...prrrrrrr.

Also, does anyone else still see them as dogs?

coffeeinbed · 20/01/2014 10:18

Greyhounds, a saluki or two
D'artagnan is a bit of a lab though..,

GossamerHailfilter · 20/01/2014 10:23

I loved it!

Milady didn't have a brand that I saw, but she did have a scar on her neck where she said her lover had tried to kill her.

CrazyOldCatLady · 20/01/2014 10:46

It was very pretty but I gave up after about 20 minutes, every aspect other than the visual was disappointing.

sulk

DameDeepRedBetty · 20/01/2014 10:56

We loved it! Good old fashioned swashbuckle.

I think it was originally commissioned for the early Saturday evening slot, but I wonder if they moved it to the Sunday 9 p.m. to avoid confusing the younger Dr Who fans? Apparently Peter Capaldi had already filmed this series before he got the Dr Who job.

DameDeepRedBetty · 20/01/2014 10:58

Also in the opening credits it said it was 'based on characters created by Alexandre Dumas', which was a clear indication not to expect the story to be the classic one about the Queen's Diamonds etc.

squoosh · 20/01/2014 10:58

Apparently there are another 9 episodes to go, that's a pretty long series for this kind of thing.

GossamerHailfilter · 20/01/2014 11:07

I think Atlantis was about the same.

You could be right betty. I said to DH last night that there wasn't actually a lot of violent gore in it, which is what I had half expected. Maybe it was made tame but they changed their minds and put it in a different slot.

DameDeepRedBetty · 20/01/2014 11:10

Yes Gossamer, it struck me as being aimed at exactly the same audience as Atlantis, with the same type of humorous dialogue, no actual swearing, and the sex bits were perfectly fine for pre-watershed too, no actual grunting and wriggling and no exposed female nipples!

MirandaGoshawk · 20/01/2014 13:34

Oooh, I loved it! Best thing on telly since... since... The Flashing Blade!!! Right up my street. Real men in leather, swashing of buckles, romance without dangly bits, lovely costumes (loved that red velvet), horses... One of them was a right Cockney geezer too not the horse.

Set in Paris but no-one speaks French. Very sensible - much too hard. Lost track of the plot - why would the King of France sent a bundle of letters to his BIL King of Spain via a priest? Why not just write one letter? But who cares?

It was what I'd wanted from Atlantis but didn't get. I wonder if Aramis smells of Aramis? Did one of them look a bit like Carlos from Desperate Housewives? No complaints here!

I had difficulty telling the goodies from the baddies as all the males apart from Richleiu (whatever) had beards & big hats, but I repeat, who cares? Yum yum. Grin

Clawdy · 20/01/2014 16:04

Anyone remember Dogtanian and the Muskehounds! ..."All for one and one for all, Muskehounds are always ready!".....Wasn't Milady a cat in it? Smile

AnneWentworth · 20/01/2014 16:24

Miranda and Crafty - too funny.

Pixel · 20/01/2014 20:51

I enjoyed it.
And now I have a sudden urge to watch Ladyhawke, must be all the leather and black prancing horses!

FuckingWankwings · 21/01/2014 14:10

I rather liked it. God, they're all VERY pretty, aren't they? Had never looked at Tom Burke in that way before but there was something about him in the threads, with the sword... And yes, he did bring to mind Eddie Izzard.

Peter Capaldi was the hottest though.

'bring back chokers, Im sure they were in about 1994'. I had a black velvet choker like hers in about 1994! I loved it to bits. Might get another one or am I too old now

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 21/01/2014 19:39

Just watching it on iplayer now.

My favourite book. I'm not expecting it to bear any resemblance though. Loved Merlin in all its anachronistic glory. I doubt I'm going to be disappointed - it's proving a visual marvel so far!

And I'm singing the Muskehounds theme tune...
