Im not perfect, i dont beat my kids though Grin

I agree it is propeganda, absolutely but my point is whatever exploitation is going on, streets and people like this exist all over britain.

hickorychicken · 26/01/2014 17:22

Yeah death threats are a bit harsh tbf.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2014 23:36

Why do their parents and grandparents not offer help?

I read an article earlier - can't link on phone - will do tomorrow on Lappy - but via the daily fail they had his grandparents giving an interview

Surely seeing your grandchild and great grandchildren living in that squaller you would do something :(

And why isn't rent paid to landlords before people get their benifits? Then would be no rent arrears?

MadIsTheNewNormal · 27/01/2014 06:04

Because unless it's considered demeaning Blondes and apparently people need to learn to budget and not have the nanny state do it for them.

What a great way to teach them to budget - letting them run up rent arrears. Hmm

And then they are told to stay put and force the landlord to evict them through the courts otherwise they are considered to have made themselves deliberately homeless if they go voluntarily.

Is it any wonder so few LLs will consider people on HB?

zizzo · 27/01/2014 08:11

I don't know anyone who is solely reliant on benefits who "manages well", hickorychicken. Everyone I know/knew in this situation suffered from extreme anxiety, stress, depression, learning difficulties, low self-esteem - you name it, including the suffering my mother went through when she was raising two children on her own. It's a trap.

Eventually she found a part-time job as a retail assistant which paid less than the benefits did, but at least she had some measure of confidence and self-worth back, even if she still had to deal with the stress of making ends meet. If she tried to find a job in this economic climate, I think she would have found it a lot tougher.

I managed ok on benefits for a while but its not meant to be enjoyable. Channel4 dont care about complaints, its more hype for the ratings.
Who envys people on benefits?

hickorychicken · 27/01/2014 10:40

And tbf LL's were reluctant to take dss tenants before the change of who the money went to came in.

itsnotthateasy · 27/01/2014 10:44

Completely agree with Blondes.

itsnotthateasy · 27/01/2014 10:45

I have complained directly to Channel Four this morning.

The guy who answered the phone sounded as disinterested as anything. I'm not even sure he took notes on what i said :/

Well at least you tried Holey .

zizzo · 27/01/2014 10:46

I think he's probably heard it a hundred times before! They won't do anything, not while they're getting the publicity and the ratings.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2014 11:56

heres link for his grandparents here

where is mandy his mum? said was raised by his sf - but even so if this couple are his gp's and kids great gps, why are they helping them?

womblesofwestminster · 27/01/2014 13:44

Have C4, broken any Ofcom clauses? If so, which?

SoleSource · 27/01/2014 22:12

Anybody watching now on C4+1?

zizzo · 27/01/2014 22:28

These episodes are getting more and more heartbreaking. I did get teary when Fungi wasn't allowed to see his son, and when he was driving away from his first ex-partner. He just seems so devoid of hope.

hickorychicken · 27/01/2014 22:37

First time i felt for fungi tonight, get him off that street!

zizzo · 27/01/2014 22:41

Surely it's get everyone off that street, hickorychicken? His isn't the only sad story on there.

I get the feeling C4 are playing the viewers and will get us all to feel sorry for everyone on there (yes, even White Dee) and then turn around and say a big HA to those who were slagging them off in the first few episodes.

But I doubt they're that manipulative. Hmm

SoleSource · 28/01/2014 00:58

rainy My DS is totally blind, no speech, wears pads and is severely Autistic. What kind of job should he do as to not collect benefits?

salsmum · 28/01/2014 03:53

I had to give up my job that I loved in June 2013 (I worked in elderly care). I had to give up my job because my severly disabled daughters care needs increased and my partner (not her Dad) couldn't manage.
My partner aged 59 was out of work for 3 years while I worked. He started a part time job (15) hours last weds and told the job centre on Friday that his training/induction had finished. His JSA finished (they closed down his claim)....he will not receive a wage until 4 weeks time. We were finding it a real struggle with JSA and carers allowance to live and will not manage with just the carers allowance without any other benefit until DP get a wage. After attending an interview today at Job centre and numerous phone calls today we were told that we could apply for welfare/hardship payment...It is not a guarantee that we will get it and we are both despairing how the hell we are going to survive Sad. We have a large wheelchair accessible van (on hire from Motorbility) on the drive and we have a small flat screen TV which we bought when we both worked.. Look in my fridge and food cupboard though and it's quite sparse. We both want to work and my daughter gets quite upset with the fact that she knows that if she wasn't living at home we could both work full time. I do not have family support to rely on. Living on benefits is not an 'easy' way out! it's demoralising, depressing, stressful and kills any feelings of 'self worth'. communication between agencies is almost non existent which results in delays in benefits and/or non payment and you have to apply all over again not only leading to frustration but also a heavy phone bill since mostly all of the numbers are premium rate Hmm. I might also mention that we have not had a holiday for @ 4 years and cannot afford to socialise. we do not take substances and VERY rarely have a drink. I hate the way people watch this programme and assume all claimants are like this...I was quite disappointed in white Dee last night not trying to encourage her daughter more to complete her work experience after giving up at the sports centre after just one day!

JakeBullet · 28/01/2014 07:15

Salsmum, that sounds like a horrendous situation. Sad

I felt desperately sorry for that young dad 'Mark' last night- when he said that he is the unluckiest man alive, my heart really went out to him.
