I have only just started watching it.....so so sad in places.

I would apply for their next one....to show what many people HAVE to claim just to exist.

I would be a low paid working person getting benefits to top up my wage.

I think some people who might want to show benefits in a better light might apply. Other than that... nobody surely?! Looking forward to next weeks Smile

I had to ROFL when CH4 stated that next weeks show would be the last...BUT they are looking for new 'applicants' for the next series Shock who in their right mind would??????? Confused. (whispers) although I must admit this programme has become my 'guilty pleasure Wink.

A guy in the audience just summed KH up perfectly, fine to watch her for 'entertainment' value, dangerous to ask her opinion on ANYTHING!

Jack Monroe is also appearing I think.

Arabella has just given professional professional troll Katie Hopkins a perfect Hmm face Grin ... She went on to say if we went after absent fathers with more gusto the benefits bill would shrink dramatically - no shit, Sherlock hard stare at the CSA!

nananina I was just about to post about this but you have beaten me to it!

I agree that "white Dee" may well be out of her depth appearing with people who are used to debating and arguing ( I believe Edwina Currie is also on).

Should be interesting.

NanaNina Honestly, I can't imagine there will be anything rational about it... probably just lots of vicious attacks flying every which way. I hate these kinds of things.

There is a programme "The Big Benefits Row: Live" on Channel 5 tonight at 9.00. It is described as a "shouty companion show to Channel 4's not-in-the-least-bit-provocative Benefits Street. It says that the issue of benefits and the welfare system is discussed with a panel and a live studio audience, who will be throwing in questions and offering their own contributions.

This Katie Hopkins woman really pisses me off because she is making money out of a being a rich snob who is almost "acting the part" of being controversial about almost anything. If "white Dee" is on the programme I really hope she can cope, as I think it's likely she will just get aggressive and go OTT and condemn herself even more. I know she's probably brighter than the people we see on BS (Becky and Mark both have Learning Difficulties) but she will still struggle I think to be part of a rational debate. I have visions of it ending up like the Jeremy Kyle show, as it is going out live.

That sounds grim, Holey :(

Why aren't the Council stepping in and running youth clubs? Why aren't they holding free night classes or social events to promote community and cultural cohesion among the immigrants and locals? Why aren't they improving leisure facilities, and cutting rents on business premises to encourage trade to grow again in the area?

Grrr. It's going the same way in my hometown too and I despair of it.

Holey why do you think that is? Given that these kinds of chaotic lives tend to be multi generational... I don't subscribe to the view that it's anything to do with current economic situation as (a) things have been deteriorating since well before the latest recession and (b) we had recessions throughout the 20th century, anyway. So is it that communities have become less cohesive? (Which doesn't seem to the case IME, nor from what's presented in this program) Or is it the council has tended to lump the more troubled families together?
Sorry...thinking out loud here!

Sadly that's been the way with so many neighbourhoods across the UK. I wonder why that is, if these problems have been around for so many years.

I suspect the woman whose front patio had been so beautifully decorated for Britain in Bloom remembered quite a different James Turner street, too.

I just found out today that my Mother lived on this street until she was 3 and actually lived in Fungi's house. My Mum's life is very removed from their existence and myself and my brother in particular is the other extreme to Fungi's life- how things have changed over the years!
