Found you all! Big "Hej!" to the usual BBC4 Sat 9pm crew and some new additions Xmas Grin

So loved it last night. Great to see Saga and Martin back.

The picture on the IT manager's desk was of the earring terrorist girl. Do we think posho demanding girl is going to uncover what is going on, like Lucas?

DP thinks Jens is masterminding this, I am not so sure - but someone else is behind it as the group of 4 said something about hijacking the tanker not being part of the plan they had agreed. The owner of the ship is either involved or - perhaps more likely - involved in some nefarious activity that has a negative impact on the environment and that is why his ship was targeted. And we'll probably find out what that is in the coming weeks.

Also think you are right that the new policewoman has designs on Martin - his reputation must go before him, I guess. Or perhaps it's that thrill some people get from getting close to someone who has become a public figure through terrible tragedy Xmas Hmm

I half expect he'll work through his demons, get his family back and then fuck it all up by having a celebratory shag with new copette. But I want to believe he will sort himself out and not mess it up

Loving Saga trying to be a good girlfriend, when Jakob obviously has taken her for who she is. Ain't that always the way? Find someone, then try to change yourself or them (or both) to achieve some skewed idea of happy ever after?!

Was v disappointed not to get ep 3 - hurry up next Saturday!!

Oh - and do we think all of this will lead up to the EU/G8?? meeting that Martin was supposed to be taking care of in the first place?!

LittleDoris · 05/01/2014 16:29

Saw this on iPlayer today, but there only appears to be ep6-10 of series one on there so I just started straight into series 2.

I was gripped throughout, where I am usually on here while watching TV, this really held my interest. I love the relationship between Saga and Martin, and as a PP said, really hope they don't sleep with each other.

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2014 16:32

Dh watched the series 1 on Netflix, I didn't, he kept saying how good it was so have started watching series 2. So far, so good.

lurkingaround · 05/01/2014 17:53

Hi teej! Woohoo another saga with Saga!
Marsha this series and The Killing are the only tv series I can commit to. Seriously good. Love it.

I don't agree with your DH. Would they bring Jens back?
Poor ole Martin. He will cop off with yet one at the expense of Mette. Willpower of a gnat.

You are probably right re G8 tho.

lurkingaround · 05/01/2014 17:54

He will cop off with yer one, not yet one. Sheesh.

mousmous · 05/01/2014 17:55

maybe that's where the oil lorry is going...

middleeasternpromise · 05/01/2014 18:01

I feel like I've hit the jackpot as I only discovered this series when they re-ran the first lot through December at silly oclock in the morning. I literally watched the whole first series Xmas week. Just love the characters and want to go to Sweden now !!! I would so fall for the Martin character IRL, Ive just realised why my love life is so fecked up.

Dawndonnaagain · 05/01/2014 18:10

I don't think she's too Aspie. I've read books (many years ago) on how to get things right. A lot of us do. I've known a fair few Aspies just like her. (Looking at you, dh)!

lurkingaround · 05/01/2014 18:22

Gosh I think Saga is quite asperger-ish. She gets none of the social niceties or subtleties. And a total disconnect from Martin's grief. She just doesn't get it. I think she's lucky Jakob gets her. Tho I don't suppose we know what he's really like yet.

Dawndonnaagain · 05/01/2014 18:33

She is very Aspie, but someone said upthread, it was too much, and she's not. She's actually fairly typical of somebody who hasn't bothered with the social niceties and doesn't see the need. I'm far better than dh because I was 'trained'.
I worry that Jakob might be involved in this somehow, and she won't see it. But I have three Aspie dcs so I worry all the time, anyway!

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2014 18:35

Yep I only watch two too Lurking. This and MiC. Good to be discerning (well if you can call anyone that watches MiC discerning).

I love the muted greyness of it all.

MummyUmizoomi · 05/01/2014 20:20

Saga is a beautiful Swedish name, it means Fairytale. Its becoming quite a popular name again after years of being an old lady name!

teejwood · 05/01/2014 22:42

hej lurking!

Dawn I did wonder about Jakob but am hoping he is just a perfect match for Saga

Mummy love your point about the meaning of Saga - lovely nod to the story being fiction and also lovely contradiction of Saga's complete grounding in facts and reality. Thank you for sharing!

flatmum · 06/01/2014 08:40

I think the Saga actress is overdoing it. Especially compared to the last series. Why would she have regressed so much in a year? And would she really have got to the position she's in with such a poor use of social norms. I read an interview with the actres where she was saying she had been surprised by all the attention and people talking about aspergers so she decided to research it and now I think she is over playing it a tad.

Still watchable though.

squoosh · 06/01/2014 10:10

Exactly, last year it was far more subtly done, but the viewer still got it. This time round it feels almost slapstick at times.

Whistleblower0 · 06/01/2014 10:17

It's recorded. Watching it tonight. Cant waitSmile

Dawndonnaagain · 06/01/2014 11:40

Me: Does my bum look big in this.
Dh: Of course it does, you have a big bum. Why are you asking.

Me: Peel some potatoes please.
Dh: How many?
Me: half.
Result: All potatoes half peeled.
Nah, she's definitely not being too much. The other point is, regression is quite common. It's a safety area. So, the new relationship, or the working with Martin would cause that sort of regression. She has also obviously learnt to do some things, the laughing at 'jokes' was really funny and very accurate, as was the lying.

squoosh · 06/01/2014 11:44

Well I disagree, I feel they're signposting it every 5 mins. Was much more effective in the last series. We already know Saga, I just felt like saying 'shut up and get on with the case'.

guineapiglet · 06/01/2014 12:16

Hi all - loved seeing this back on Saturday nights - has anyone seen the US 'remake' of it? After the mess they made with the US version of the KIlling, I don't think I can bring myself to watch it. Love the music at the beginning and the atmosphere in the cities, the amazing skies and desolation, and the endless sea. But the characters are so watchable, and that is what is so satisfying to enjoy, the bilingual use of Swedish and Danish is brilliant, fab way to learn a language..

I was wondering if she had slightly 'regressed' or was made to be more 'obvious' because she was missing Martin, who she clearly has a rapport with and is fond of in her own way. Also maybe signposting it a bit for new viewers and the new police she has to work with, like when she took her top off in front of them, etc. She is a brilliant character though, works incredibly hard and is a natural at solving things and working puzzles out.

I really liked her new boyfirend, he seems to 'get her' without any drama, just hoping he doesnt turn out to be in with the bad gang, but I don't think so.

angelos02 · 06/01/2014 16:14

I've recorded this. Will I understand it even though I haven't seen the first series?

teejwood · 06/01/2014 16:40

angels my DM is watching it but hadn't watched series 1.

Series 1 gives you the background to various characters, how they met and what they went through.

You could just pick up the main points from series 2 without having to watch series 1 and it is in many respects its own self-contained story. (Feel free to ask here if you have any questions Grin)

BUT - series 1 was so good it almost seems a shame not to watch it before starting series 2, which in effect will spoil it if you then decide to watch series 1 iykwim....

teejwood · 06/01/2014 16:40

sorry - angelos02

tobiasfunke · 06/01/2014 17:18

She has def regressed which I think is for the new audience who are only coming into it. I remember she was really annoying in the first few episodes of the last series until we 'got' it and then it settled down. I love The Bridge even more than The Killing I think, but that might be because I find Swedish easier on the ear than Danish.

CyberMenStrual · 06/01/2014 18:36

Saw an interesting tweet today commenting that Saga always speaks Swedish, and Martin always speaks Danish - even when conversing with Swedish police team. It is apparently subtitled in the "home" language when shown in Sweden & Denmark. My ear isn't finely attuned enough to pick up the difference every time, and I would, guess that the inter- country rivalry adds another dimension for the nordic audience. The Danish police haven't come across as being as efficient as the Swedes (shortfalls in investigating the prostitute murder in series 1, and delays in sending the camera footage in series 2)
