The Bridge is back on Saturday 4th January on BBC 4!
Only for a double bill thoughSad but better than nothing.

Iplayer can take a while. Maybe they did not have the rights to encode it prior to broadcast, maybe they did but the encode did not happen correctly and so needs human intervention before being available. There is a blog somewhere on the BBC site explaining the tech behind iplayer, all a bit complex so things can go wrong.

SoulJacker · 01/02/2014 23:50

can normally watch it about 15 minutes after it ends, would happen on the last episode, reckon it's on purpose to keep me hanging a bit longer.

HeggartyTotterington · 02/02/2014 00:13

If you go to bbc4 watch live on i player, you can skip it back. Though it might be a bit late now, I'm not sure how far back it goes

CurrerBell · 02/02/2014 00:22

Bloody hell - so numb and exhausted after that.

Most crime dramas would have ended with the revelation/death of Oliver and it would still have been a brilliant and satisfying thriller. But this went somewhere else... and just kept going. Just layers upon layers of astonishing developments and revelations, and it's still not tied together in the end!

So now we're going to see what would have happened if Martin had originally killed Jens on the bridge in Series 1... Saga couldn't stop him this time. Unbelievably harrowing...

I wonder if the person who shot Gertrud is connected with the police in some way - the loose ends with Laura were not tied up.

BrandNewIggi · 02/02/2014 00:27

Maybe he didn't kill Jens. Maybe he just gave him the poison, Jens couldn't live with the guilt now etc. he'd always intended to die after all.

stinkingbishop · 02/02/2014 07:40

Jens being poisoned, tick.

The summit being the summit, original speaker poisoned, so that Viktoria can erupt in blood, tick.

Gertrude the meta baddie, and Oliver 'just' running round glorifying DS, tick.

Stenberg connected to Viktoria, tick.

Rasmus' final recklessness, tick.

The timing on the last experiment corresponding to how long they have to get everyone away from Viktoria, tick.

Pernille having a major part to play, tick.

Mette leaving Martin, tick.

BUT...the graduation not being the summit, because of two strands of activity, there being a meta meta baddie, Pernille's part being passive and heartbreaking. Saga turning Martin in (she's AS, she had to, her moral compass, the fact she even hesitated shows how much she's learning)....

Rug pull. This is why I am not a Swedish detective.

Meta meta baddie was the wrong body shape for Laura's Dad, though I agree that thread hasn't been tied off. Nor Bodil and Claudio's number. Nor the police leak. The silhouette looked more like Hans. But then the author saying they haven't decided yet? Crazy business. There is obviously a meta author at work Wink.

Oh what am I going to do with my life now, hm?

PS DM stayed absolutely silent for the first episode, then went to bed, bless her! She's getting bacon sarnies for breakfast as a reward!!!

LaVolcan · 02/02/2014 10:53

Too many subplots introduced for my liking and not enough tying up of loose ends. I hope the scriptwriter takes note of this for the next series.

hackmum · 02/02/2014 11:01

So: when Oliver told Victoria that she was going to save Europe, what did he mean? We know Gertrud's grand plan was to release the virus that would kill all the environment ministers, but what was Oliver's grand plan? Did anyone work that out?

ImperialBlether · 02/02/2014 11:06

I thought Saga's acting at the end was incredible. Her face showed everything she'd lost and my heart just went out to her.

I feel a bit cheated that we didn't find out who was the chief villain, particularly as the writers didn't seem to know either! I don't really want that crime to continue into series 3.

I saw the interview on TV with Saga and Martin. It was so interesting what Saga said, that when Martin and the director were talking in Danish, she felt very shut out and then she realised that's exactly what Saga feels like, as though there's a glass wall between her and other people. Very, very moving.

ImperialBlether · 02/02/2014 11:06

I couldn't work out Oliver's grand plan either, hackmum.

HRHQueenMe · 02/02/2014 11:07

Sorry to ruin the theories, the Meta Meta baddie who shot Gertrude spoke DANISH, which rules out the swedes i.e Lauras Dad, Hans and Rasmus. Unless they miraculously turn out to be half danish. None of them have spoken danish so far so some kind of twist would have to be pulled there. My guess is that Meta baddie is somehow linked but hasnt yet been introduced. Unless its Carolines husband....hes Danish....

HRHQueenMe · 02/02/2014 11:13

Just realized alot of the non scandies probably dont realize who the swedes and danes are? Or am I wrong? Can you guys tell?

SWEDES: Saga, Hans, Rasmus, Jacob, Marcus Stenberg, Viktoria ,Oliver
DANES: Martin, Mette,AnnaDea, Pernille, Lilian, Bodil , Caroline, Alexander, Gertrude, Dharma and Claudio of course.

ThistledownAndCobweb · 02/02/2014 11:14

Hackmum, Oliver's plan was the release of the virus on the plane. I assume Victorias company manufactured the antidote.

LemongrassGinger · 02/02/2014 11:17

ah, missed that. and funny, towards the end, I was beginning to think that pernille sounded a bit more germanic than saga........ But I totally missed the 'clue' that unsurprisingly the baddie was Danish. But that doesn't really rule anybody in or out does it? could be a child was raised in denmark. or put on a danish accent.

LemongrassGinger · 02/02/2014 11:19

HRH, you are totally correct. If I'd sat down and thought about who was drafted in from what department I could figure it out wrt police, but with people like caroline and bodil and claudio, really not clear at all.

And like I said (delusional???) I had thought that I was beginning to be able to distinguish in the last two episodes!

LemongrassGinger · 02/02/2014 11:20

and, i was glad they gave us reminders (like when viktoria said to bodil) you danes smoke grass and we swedes are appalled. Then I thought, ah, right, so bodil is Danish and I guess that means Caroline and her husband are too. But really, you need your wits about you to keep track of their nationalities!

are you scandinavian?

Marrow · 02/02/2014 11:24

Loved it, lots of loose ends for the next series. Not sure that vials containing a deadly virus with a 100% mortality rate should be stored in a plastic bag on a shelf with other random bits of evidence though! Grin

BrandNewIggi · 02/02/2014 11:26

If there was an antidote to the virus (the plane people got antibiotics didn't they?) why not give it to Pernille? Or was it a different virus?
I think Caroline's boobjob dh could easily be meta-baddie.
I fell asleep last night trying to find different ways Martin couldve not killed Jens, so he can be ok. He never actually admitted to it, did he?

ThistledownAndCobweb · 02/02/2014 11:36

Premillennialism had a different deadly virus. As soon as she was infected she was both dead and a walking time bomb.

HRHQueenMe · 02/02/2014 11:36

SWEDES; Laura and Lauras Dad, Niklas and Linus
DANES; Beate the stunning teacher.

ThistledownAndCobweb · 02/02/2014 11:37

That would be Pernille

hackmum · 02/02/2014 11:41

HRH - I hadn't kept track of the nationalities, I don't even know what Saga and Martin speak to each other (though from what you write above I assume it's Swedish). Obviously you do miss a fair bit not knowing that!

Thistledown - oh, I see. Well, that kind of makes sense, except I thought that Oliver's plan related to the EU summit. Wasn't that what the "graduation" was all about? Maybe that was just a bit of misidrectin.

BrandNewIggi: two different illnesses - the people on the plane were given the bug that causes pneumonic plague (I think that's what it's called), which is treatable. Pernille and Victoria both had some fiendishly clever newly developed virus that has a 100% fatality rate. Another slightly implausible thing is that the guy performing the autopsies deduced this from samples of two dead bodies. How he could work out what the virus was, and how it worked, when it was previously unknown to science I have no idea.

CurrerBell · 02/02/2014 11:46

Hi all, the live webchat from the writer Hans Rosenfeldt is continuing this morning on the BBC website, and is very interesting. He addresses lots of the apparently loose ends etc.

I hadn't picked up on the meta baddie being Danish - interesting. However the writer has said it wasn't meant to be a cliff hanger, so not sure we'll ever find out who it is!

LaVolcan · 02/02/2014 11:54

Ah now, I knew that Bodil was Danish, because she was in The Killing, where she was Brix's boss.

LauraPashley · 02/02/2014 11:55

When Oliver said that Viktoria would save Europe, I took that to mean that her company would turn out to be the only one producing an antidote, and therefore make shedloads of cash from "saving" everyone. But that doesn't make sense when you presume that Oliver didn't have a clue what Gertrude was up to? Did he?
