mrsjavierbardem · 29/01/2014 17:14

my dh told me that he'd read that the Bridge and its ilk are so popular here because people have to watch so closely and put their phones and iPads down and pay attention like it were in ye olden days so we gets more involved and nordicted.
hmmm, nordicted did I just make that up?

BasilandLime · 29/01/2014 18:44

Thatd b true for me!
Am always dual-screening it. Bad habit.
Sometimes i forget i cant speak swedish, start tapping away, and miss something!
I want to learn swedish/danish.
Can i start a thread and ask a real life swedish 0r danish person to teach me and other scandomaniacs a bit wvery day?

mousmous · 29/01/2014 18:48

I like nordicted
and yes to paying better attention.
I quite like it, being unavailable for a short time.

marzipanned · 29/01/2014 19:24

I think I'd like The Bridge either way as I enjoy British crime dramas too but I definitely only enjoyed Borgen because I had to read along...if it had been in English I'd have got bored pretty quickly.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 29/01/2014 20:32

Only two more episodes!

mrsjavierbardem · 29/01/2014 22:26

Only two!
I already feel bereft Sad

CurrerBell · 30/01/2014 00:22

Just found this short 'behind the scenes' video, where some of the cast talk about Danish/Swedish language differences:

Interesting to hear about how Danes/Swedes view each other!

BasilandLime I know what you mean - Danish in particular sounds so familiar to me now, that I forget I can't actually understand it! Would love to have someone teach us a few words. Tak!

Tabby1963 · 30/01/2014 07:22

Thanks for posting that Link, Curren. I note that their word for 'good' is 'bra', pronounced 'braw'. Braw is the Scots word for good.

Cat98 · 30/01/2014 07:32

Great link curren!

Cat98 · 30/01/2014 07:39

Actually, maybe don't click on the link people - there's a clip in it that hasn't been on yet! And it's making me wonder ...

mousmous · 30/01/2014 07:42

too late. love the danish coffeetable.

CurrerBell · 30/01/2014 08:44

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry. I didn't realise about the clip. Blush Watch it after Saturday!

I've been trying so hard to avoid spoilers too!

That's so interesting about 'braw' - didn't realise it was Scots too.

teejwood · 30/01/2014 09:09

Saga and Martin on BBC Breakfast now!

teejwood · 30/01/2014 09:15

Awww they were so lovely Smile - it's making me even more sad that the end is nearly nigh...

Now - what have you been up to - need to read the thread quickly andthengetbacktowork

lurkingaround · 30/01/2014 09:33

Am at work and just had a quick sneaky look at this thread and am raging I missed the pair on telly! Darned work getting in the way.
And what's more, I have to go out on Saturday night so I can't watch til Sunday! Darned non-existent social life rearing its ugly head at inopportune moments!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/01/2014 10:02

Oh missed the pair of them on tv this morning.

teejwood · 30/01/2014 10:23

Saga and Martin were lovely - the actress playing Saga is so warm irl. They weren't talking about the plot at all, just about what it is like to make it and work together and how happy they are about the reception in the UK. Also they confirmed that series 3 is in the works.

One of the loveliest bits - the actress who plays Saga said that obviously "Martin" and the director are both danish, and even though she can understand most of what they say, when they speak quickly she gets lost pretty easily - so to her it feels like there is a glass screen between her and Martin/the director as she just can't "get" what they are on about sometimes and in that way she is quite like Saga - slightly on the outside and uncomprehending...

teejwood · 30/01/2014 10:34

I so love the theories and MNers on this thread!

Wanted to say before I forget again that guinea I was shocked re your DDs assignment and 50 Shades!

dawn thank you so much for your comments on this thread - it has really helped to give me and I suspect many others a better understanding of where Saga is coming from.

One thing that did occur to me this morning - I assumed that the ex-Head of Research disappeared to Thailand because he had been in charge of a clinical trial that had gone drastically wrong. What if it is the other way round? He found out about an unapproved trial being carried out and knew his life was in danger as he realised the test subjects had been bumped off? So in fact he was running from Medisonus rather than justice? Not sure. And yy to whoever said about boat guy being on holiday in Thailand when his boat was sunk.

Also - wrt the water supply to the conference - was that now in danger because the water supply had been polluted by the chemical plant explosion?

CurrerBell · 30/01/2014 11:00

Ooh, interesting angle teejwood, re the ex-Head of Research!

Thailand was also mentioned by the father of one of the boat victims (I think). He said he had hoped all these years his son was just sitting on a beach in Thailand.

I was just thinking about the comment that Viktoria 'practically inherited' the company. Why 'practically'? Does this suggest that her father isn't dead?

It was interesting how Viktoria took charge in the police station and lectured Saga about using more precise language! A contrast to when Saga interviewed Gertrude and harangued her for being evasive.

On re-watching, I noticed how jumpy Gertrude is around Viktoria... Is Gertrude the one who's poisoning Viktoria?

mrsjavierbardem · 30/01/2014 13:32

this is the Breakfast clip

OMG the body language between them is utterly fascinating to me - as if they genuinely love each other but it didn't seem sexual, just powerfully affectionate.
They were physically so close and the eye contact was so striking.
Adorable!
She is exquisitely beautiful and he is like a massive lovely bear.
I love them both!
I thought the interviewers were a bit lame particularly chocolate legged bird, yuck, I don't watch Strictly love.

lurkingaround · 30/01/2014 14:36

Interesting about the Medisonus ex-boss in thailand teej. It is v dodgy, faking a death and living in Thailand , I feel it's more he did wrong, than was wronged, IYKWIM.

Viktoria is quite an aggressive personality. I wonder is she made that way or did something happen to her, maybe within the family.

Will look at TV clip later, still at work, sshh.

tobiasfunke · 30/01/2014 15:57

Charlie Brooker's weekly wipe did a funny summary of The Bridge this week

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaCZfitsgCs

It's 5.30 mins in. It's v funny.

I also have visitors this weekend so won't see it until next week. Bastards.

stinkingbishop · 31/01/2014 07:34

This is getting ridiculous. Why do so many of us have visitors? Do they not understand? More importantly, did we not think ahead? Saga would not have let this happen.

Who's for rounding them all up and installing them in some sort of monitored soft play area, a la New Years Eve? Am sure they'll have fun. And therefore not TALK ALL THE WAY THROUGH ABOUT NEXT DOOR'S 3 LEGGED CAT AND THE WEATHER ON THE DRIVE DOWN AND DOES SHE EVER CHANGE HER TROUSERS AND I MET A NICE LADY FROM SWEDEN ONCE AND ISN'T SHE A BIT FUNNY, REMINDS ME OF YOUR UNCLE IAN...

I am already stressed!

mrsjavierbardem · 31/01/2014 12:01

My m now has cancelled owing to landslides and iffy trains.

Sos,

Please Stinkingbish respond to my hysteria about Martin n Saga's Body Language! My dh says "he wants to shag her" I said no no, it didn't seem so carnal to me, more sibling like. But I may be wrong!

mousmous · 31/01/2014 12:10

can you make up a fake weather report with road closures so that she can't come?

the shit weather might even play into your hands.
