How did he survive jumping of that building? How did he get all that blood back inside him? How did he survive being dead?! Shock

Could someone please explain who the man with the beard and the theories about how Sherlock died is? Was he a police man from last series? I don't remember him at all. Did he have a beard then? Did he have a big role?

loisismyhero · 02/01/2014 20:32

He was Anderson. He was one of the policemen who, in the last episode of series 2, decided that Sherlock was a fraud who kidnapped the children. In last nights episode Lestrade said he was coming up with all these 'not dead' theories because he felt responsible for Sherlocks suicide.

lovelychops · 02/01/2014 20:37

Thanks. I think I have a mental block I just don't remember his face at all. Must have been concentrating too hard on all the nicer faces!

loisismyhero · 02/01/2014 20:46

And in fairness there are several nicer faces to concentrate on. The beard is a new thing too, which doesn't help.

boogiewoogie · 03/01/2014 17:27

I really hope that Mary isn't a baddy. She may have a secret though and that is probably where her liar and linguistic skills come into place.

John does marry Mary Morston in the original and I hope her character doesn't deviate to the same extent as Irene Adler's from the books.

sneezecakesmum · 03/01/2014 20:16

I absolutely loved it. So bonkers and cleverly written Grin

....cough!!!! pmsl!

Can't wait for Sunday, and will we ever know how it was done?

OP posts:
lljkk · 03/01/2014 20:42

I can't see Mary as a baddy; a dark horse maybe, but not a baddy. That would be just too far a deviation.

Am I the only one who takes it seriously when Sherlock says he's a sociopath? So that explains his complete lack of empathy.

Still fancy him but better not make it obvious to DH

loisismyhero · 04/01/2014 08:58

Oh he's definitely a sociopath. He's still beautiful though.

Moln · 04/01/2014 09:24

Mary isn't a baddy, though I think she might become involved in the solving of cases though, possibly. I don't really know the books so can't say what Watson's wife is like in them.

bewilderedotcom · 04/01/2014 10:22

I think he is more likely to have HFA (aspergers syndrome) which a high intellect and photographic memory, social awkwardness and not really understanding emotions on anything other than an intellectual level. He does have feelings but is a bit confused by them and doesn't really 'get it'. People with HFA are very quirky, but they are essentials normal human beings with a different way of thinking! but can contribute to society.

Sociopaths are socially very adept, superficially charming and can turn the charm on and off like a tap. (Think Kenneth bianchi the hillside strangler). They also have no genuine empathy with other people or real feelings. (Sherlock was embarrassed by his parents ordinaryness). Sociopaths use their skills for their own ends only. SH does it for the intellectual challenge and only slightly for the fame.

Sociopaths have no moral compass and SH has. Which doesn't mean they are all murderers, they can be great leaders etc.

Am I overthinking this?

SH is also gloriously beautiful with cheekbones to die for Grin

FrankelInFoal · 04/01/2014 11:22

In S1Ep1 he describes himself to Anderson (who calls him a psychopath) as "a high functioning sociopath".

Spoiler free summary of tomorrow's episode courtesy of Cumberbatchweb:

the sign of three - spoiler free review

spoiler free reviews are all the rage these days but i’m always slightly terrified of revealing too much but here’s a few tidbits about sunday’s upcoming episode.

  • it’s written by the entire writing staff of steven moffat, mark gatiss and steve thompson and snazzily directed by colm mccarthy
  • it’s the most un-sherlock sherlock episode there’s ever been with (as already revealed by steven moffat) no cases for a good 40 minutes
  • sherlock’s characterisation is very different and a total delight
  • the sherlock/mary/john dynamic is completely adorable but the episodes beating heart is the friendship between sherlock and john and how much they mean to each other. *all the action is weaved around sherlock’s wedding speech
  • it is the funniest episode to date with the stag do in particular being laugh out loud hysterical from beginning to end. benedict cumberbatch and martin freeman have serious comedy chops.
  • una stubbs, louise brealey, mark gatiss and rupert graves are all completely brilliant in it and have meaty supporting roles with louise getting my favourite lines of the episode
  • theres a completely unexpected moment with sherlock that is destined to launch a million gifs
  • fans get something they’ve been waiting years for
  • the entire episode is a bright, light, candy floss concotion with a bittersweet ending that ends on just the teeniest foreboding note as we find out what sherlock’s vow is.

So looking forward to it! Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are both experienced comedy actors. Martin Freeman was the best thing by far in The Office and Benedict Cumberbatch has notched up 24 episodes of Cabin Pressure on Radio 4. If you haven't heard that, do try to catch up, it's absolutely brilliant. The very last episode is due to be recorded in the next few weeks.

Sneezecakesmum · 04/01/2014 18:27

I didn't know BC was in cabin pressure! Its very funny but one of those shows i catch on the offchance. Pity we cant tape radio programmes but will check iplayer.

Can't wait for tomorrows episode. Its definitely not a series to be taken too seriously and has such brilliant comedy moments Grin

LeBearPolar · 04/01/2014 19:28

Depending on how much of a fan you are, you can get Cabin Pressure on CD (or can probably download it Confused). It is well worth the money: the funniest thing ever. BC is, of course, fabulous, but the rest of the cast are also comedy gold.

FrankelInFoal · 04/01/2014 20:58

Cabin Pressure downloads on Audible. They're about £10 per series, well worth it IMHO Grin

bisjo · 04/01/2014 20:59

I love Cabin Pressure but mainly because I think Roger Allam is so fab in it. I can't believe it is finishing Sad

FrankelInFoal · 04/01/2014 21:08

Ha ha ha ha ha!

FrankelInFoal · 05/01/2014 21:59

I loved that. Drunk Sherlock = hilarious Grin

loisismyhero · 05/01/2014 22:09

Ooh no. Didn't like it. It had its moments but the drunk stuff went on far too long.

What were we waiting for years for, in the review above?

VikingLady · 05/01/2014 22:23

That was so sad at the end. How do I go to bed now?! I'm all down! (And lacking a BC/SH in my bed to take my mind off it) Smile

Pity we cant tape radio programmes but will check iplayer.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 05/01/2014 23:35

I really enjoyed that one, and I liked the drunk Sherlock wordclouds.

Chipstick10 · 05/01/2014 23:47

Just getting too self indulgent. Not a patch on series one and two. Just my opinion of course.

Sneezecakesmum · 06/01/2014 06:41

Cheers. I will look at freeview. Pretty sure it's on my tv somewhere it's always tuned to sky Grin

Loved the episode and SH being almost human. Completely bonkers of course but nothing wrong with a bit of froth.

Still not sure how he jumped off the building. Lots of red herrings in the first episode. Did I miss the real explanation?
