MsNobodyAgain · 06/12/2013 14:49

This is a thread for all lovers of the daytime soap 'Doctors', BBC1, 1.45pm. All welcome, newbies, regulars, lurkers. Let me entertain you with a festive song:

The 12 Days of Doctors Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me
Twelve Mandy's fretting
Eleven Chris's whinging
Ten Jimmi's washing
Nine Heston's scripting
Eight Barry's peering
Seven Daniel's flirting
Six Zara's glaring
Five paaaa-tients!
Four sad Robs
Three pies for Al
Two Karens
And a tabard in a pear tree

Xmas Smile Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

The apostrophe police will have a field day with that one ^

(Private note to Kev: go on.....show me your baubles! Xmas Grin)

I will be at work Sad.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 02/01/2014 19:49

I'm looking forward to getting back to some normal routines on Monday too, I've been off work for the whole two weeks and sad to say, am actually missing it. Confused.

Raahh · 02/01/2014 19:54

DD2 starts nursery on TuesdaySad

  • worse still, it is mornings. So I still may end up missing Doctors liveSad

She is very excited I will be chaining myself to the school railings

AnneEyhtMeyer · 02/01/2014 20:18

Oh Raahh, I know how you feel. When DD started nursery I was sobbing and one of the lovely ladies there gave me a cuddle and told me it would all be ok and I could phone as often as I wanted. DD was completely fine, didn't even stop to say bye. Hmm

After a a few days I was dropping her off as soon as the doors opened and leaving it until the last moment to pick her up!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2014 20:44

:( ds2 has an extra session starting Tuesday and it's an afternoon so I'm dreading him not having a nap!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2014 20:44

I don't think I'd ever miss working!

ClayDavis · 02/01/2014 20:46

I wouldn't miss it after 2 weeks. 1 week off is not enough though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/01/2014 20:49

It's not so much the work as the people to be honest, I like school holidays but also find them a bit quiet in terms of adult conversation.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2014 20:52

I'm used to that! Dh just gets his ear bent when he gets home :)

ClayDavis · 02/01/2014 20:59

I'm with you there. The work itself is dull. I do like the people though. It's why I'm having trouble leaving.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/01/2014 21:07

I miss the school gate chat too, it's going to be weird in a couple of years when the DCs don't need me to walk to school with them any more, it's my social life.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/01/2014 21:15

Anyone watch Birds of a Feather just now? Was quite funny.

OodlesofOods · 02/01/2014 21:21

Raah dd3 goes on Wednesday! That's the trial day though then starts the week after.
Whole new routine then at some point I'll go back to work. Got a load of AL to use so might be a while yet. I need to use my brain a bit but im not sure I'm up for my job. Need a new one really.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2014 21:21

I'm watching get him to the Greek on DVD that my brother lent me :)

Would like to watch birds of a feather, will try to catch on line.

OodlesofOods · 02/01/2014 21:21

Just realised this starts another 10 years of school run!

MsNobodyAgain · 02/01/2014 21:23

I meant to watch it who but I got sidetracked by DS2. We were playing pretend Spongebob. I was Gary the snail apparently. Hmm

I miss work but not the bitching or the politics. Not walking DD to school is isolating. The boys go on a bus so my major feat for the day is not to be in my pyjamas when it arrives in a morning. I fail most days Grin

The driver is fit (do people still say that)?

We have decided that looking for a job is pointless, when dd2 is only there 3 hours. And she is still suffering a lot from constipation, which has severely affected her toilet training. Nursery are ok with it, but I need to be around in case of accidents.

She is my plb (precious last baby)- I wanted them to say- 'Ewwww, no, MrsRaahh. Keep her home til she is 18 til she is potty trained. But they didn't Sad

Grin

It's nearly 4 years since I last worked. I have no idea what I can do.
Despite several years retail experience and a degree, I feel slightly useless.

Sad self pitying post-birthday wallow
MsNobodyAgain · 02/01/2014 21:58

Nearly 10 years here Raahh. I get a bit self pitying about it sometimes then I remember it enables me to watch shit daytime tv.

This is the longest I've been at home full time (13 months and counting) only because my mum has looked after dds while I worked.
If I'd paid for nursery I couldn't have done it when I was single.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/01/2014 08:38

I couldn't afford to go back to work outside of my home now with 2 children, childcare is so expensive Wink

ClayDavis · 03/01/2014 10:07

The longest I was off was about 3 years when I was ill. Not sure I could do that now I'm back working though.

So we have another strong wind warning, potentially a heavy rain warning and a severe flood warning. More expected on Sunday. Can this winter just go away now please? I seem to spend half my life drying my clothes out at the moment.

MsNobodyAgain · 03/01/2014 15:04

Not been too bad here today. I hope it all just goes away though. It has been pretty dire.

I took the kids out for lunch McDonalds, spotted a new Home Bargains on the trading estate and spent too much. Then I saw Halfords next door and bought 2 bike helmets for the DCs. DS2 doesn't ride so he got a cuddle seeing as I didn't have to fork out another £20.

I have been into town today with DD as she wanted to spend her Christmas money. This meant a very long time spent in Build-a-Bear. Shock

I wish I had thought of that business idea, they must make a fortune! DD couldn't be persuaded to save any of it for another shop, so we came out with a lurid-coloured rabbit, a couple of pairs of shoes, a couple of dresses, some pants, socks and roller skates. DD is now in seventh heaven dressing her rabbits / bears up and repeatedly hanging things in her B-A-B wardrobe (that she got for Christmas from my mum) and taking them out again.

I went to Lakeland too and got one of their olive-wood hand carved nativity sets. I have wanted one for years but have never been able to justify £100 on a nativity set, but they had them reduced to £60. I have never seen them reduced in their sale before and it turns out they are discontinued, so I had to buy it so I spent my Christmas money on that. I would have been gutted to discover they had been discontinued if I hadn't ever got one. It has always been my "next year" purchase. So I am very happy with my purchases too!

toldmywrath · 03/01/2014 17:33

I love Lakeland but we don't have one (fortunately for my purse) in our town. My fave shops are things like that & Robert Dyas. I hate clothes shops, never been in build a bear as they weren't about when my dc were younger. I used to have a Cindy wardrobe & loved putting the clothes in & out, your DD must be so happy today Anne
I can't wait til Monday to watch Doctors (but it is my first day back to work since before Christmas Sad )

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/01/2014 17:58

Oh I had a Sindy wardrobe too, I loved it. Played with it for hours. I liked the little shoe holders in the doors.

I think I would have steered DD away from Build-a-Bear, but she was given a voucher last year and it was love at first sight. If anyone ever gives her money she immediately says she is going to spend it there.

I am so looking forward to Doctors too.
