This is a thread for all lovers of the daytime soap 'Doctors', BBC1, 1.45pm. All welcome, newbies, regulars, lurkers. Let me entertain you with a festive song:

The 12 Days of Doctors Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me
Twelve Mandy's fretting
Eleven Chris's whinging
Ten Jimmi's washing
Nine Heston's scripting
Eight Barry's peering
Seven Daniel's flirting
Six Zara's glaring
Five paaaa-tients!
Four sad Robs
Three pies for Al
Two Karens
And a tabard in a pear tree

Xmas Smile Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

The apostrophe police will have a field day with that one ^

(Private note to Kev: go on.....show me your baubles! Xmas Grin)

cinnamon we sprinkle ours on the back lawn. I have always told them that some will still be there in the morning but that is because the reindeers just eat a tiny bit from each house they visit and leave the rest there as a lovely reminder that something magical happened.

Plus if they ate all the food at every house they would be too heavy to fly.

The magic porridge pot was a ladybird book we read when i was little. Greedy girl, loves porridge, acquires magic pot- has to say 'cook little pot, cook' or something. gets carried away, forgets to say 'stop little pot, stop' and the whole village ends up in engulfed in porridge. Or something Xmas Grin

It's funny the things that stick in your mindXmas Grin

I remember that book! I know what you mean now.

I think I am delirious.

I have managed to get iTunes installed and synced on my DDs iPhone (very ancient used 3s model she is getting for Christmas). I think I have also backed stuff up to iCloud and sorted 'find my iPhone'.

Well done MsN Xmas Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 22/12/2013 18:56

Yes, well done, it is very easy to get in a muddle with Apple devices IMO.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/12/2013 19:23

Glad you are on the mend, Raahh.

Today has been cleaning day. I have been working so hard I have been wearing a summer dress as I was too hot in my winter woolies! Xmas Shock I couldn't believe how much crap was behind / underneath my sofa. I really need to pull it out / turn it upside down more often! Xmas Blush

Tomorrow is mince pie baking time. Wish I'd had time to make them today because I really fancy one now. On second thoughts, it is probably a good idea I didn't make them today, or they would be gone by tomorrow. Xmas Grin

MsNobodyAgain · 22/12/2013 19:28

I could just go a hot mince pie but I have never found any as nice as my late Grandmas. Love the smell of them baking though.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/12/2013 19:33

I have just opened some M&S bacon crisps and there is no way they are bacon flavour - they stink of salt and vinegar! Nice though.

ClayDavis · 22/12/2013 20:34

A hot mince pie would be perfect right now. I'm trying to rearrange Christmas. The weather seems to be determined to kill my travel/christmas plans. How bad do you thing the M25 anti clockwise is going to be at 5.30/6pm on Xmas Eve?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 22/12/2013 21:06

I was going to make mince pies tonight too, but we've decorated the Christmas cake instead and don't feel like it now. Will do some tomorrow. I've got 5 jars of mincemeat to get through. There's something about grandmothers and their baking and cooking isn't there MsN, I know I will never taste a finer roast potato than those my late granny used to make.

Well done on the cleaning Anne - that's what I should have been doing but CBA. We went ice skating at the Christmas market this morning and have had a fairly lazy afternoon, wrapped the last few presents, just got a big heavy one in the shed for DH to tackle tomorrow while he's at work.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/12/2013 21:38

Clay Christmas Eve is meant to be better than tomorrow. I am hoping that is the case, anyway, as DH is currently in London with his Mum, due to drive home tomorrow, and I am expecting my parents on Tuesday. Looking at the weather forecast it could just be me and DD. Xmas Confused

Somehow I don't think me and a 4 year old will manage a gammon, a turkey and a rib of beef. Although the way DD is around chicken she may well manage the turkey all by herself.

We decorated the Christmas cake yesterday, WhoKnows. I hope the mincemeat I made last year will still be ok, because otherwise we will be mince pie-less.

Oh, Granny's cooking! I will never taste lemon meringue pie like it again. My Gran was an amazing cook. She was brought up in her Dad's cafe and ran it for years herself. I wish I had got her to teach me how to cook. My DD will never reminisce fondly about her granny's cooking, my mum cooks everything to a cinder!

ClayDavis · 22/12/2013 21:51

Original plans involved the boat arriving in Weymouth at 3pm tomorrow and then travelling to suffolk Christmas Eve am. We correctly predicted tomorrows boat was likely to be cancelled a couple of days ago so booked one of the few remaining places on the overnight ferry to Portsmouth tomorrow night. But it looks like that won't be leaving til Tues am and arriving at 4pm.

Am hoping everyone is going to travel tomorrow.

At this point it could still all go tits up again and it'll just be me for Christmas.

ClayDavis · 22/12/2013 21:52

And granny's cooking is always best. My grandad's wasn't bad either.

MsNobodyAgain · 22/12/2013 21:56

I am clueless about the weather. Is there a bad forecast then? Must be OK ooop North or else I would have heard.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 22/12/2013 22:06

It's many years since I travelled anywhere on Christmas Eve, but I used to do M25/A3 to get to my parents in Hampshire from NW London it was pretty grim in the middle of the day, but quieter late on, an awful lot of workplaces pack up at lunchtime. Also, the grim bit was the getting away from London and as that is the bit that comes last in the journey you've described it might be ok. Ferry crossings could be a bit rough though, is it the sea cat?

ClayDavis · 22/12/2013 22:29

It's what Condor are calling 'conventional ferry' I think. No idea what that actually is. The fast ferry is a complete no go. Fortunately I don't have to be on it. I'm coming from the South West. I just need to meet my sister and she's driving me the rest of the way.

The weather's supposed to be OK oop North I think, MrsN. Supposed to be really bad down south tomorrow. I think the train companies are saying anyone with a ticket for tomorrow can use it today and they're suspending the normal Sunday travel restrictions.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/12/2013 22:31

Clay, I crossed in similar weather. They transferred us all from Newhaven to Calais and put us on an enormous ferry with stabilisers.

It was still vomit-city, but we got across.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/12/2013 22:32

I meant from Newhaven to Dover-Calais.

ClayDavis · 22/12/2013 22:46

Despite growing up on a small island I do not do boats well. I can be seasick on the calmest of seas. I'd take a plane over a boat every time.

One of the older Condor fast ferries was notoriously bad for seasickness. Something to do with the design I think.

Just looked it up. It's not the seacat, it's one of these

OodKingWenceslas · 23/12/2013 07:05

My Nannas cooking was similar to mine. Cook it too long and hot and forget about it my mams is pretty good though. Dh does all the cooking here. Grin

Final stretch re shopping & prep now. Just got to get dd1/2 up and then dd2 can come shopping to carry it and dd1 can wait for the post man.
