Oh, I like Katrine and Troels. dh was really rooting for them too, which amused me.

The whole Pia/Torben thing is weird. Was Torben having a heart attack at the end or just a breakdown? He's being so passive at the moment, quite unsettling to watch.

Bellebelle · 08/12/2013 18:31

Well I like Katrine/Troels more than Birgette/Jeremy (I don't even like the way Birgette says "Jeremy") but can't get excited about either really.

The very reason I love Borgen is that it doesn't follow typical storyline routes and tries to depict all of its characters as close to how human beings actually are in comparison to other dramas. They're all flawed, conflicted and make some pretty bad decisions. In the first two series watching Birgette's family life suffer under the pressure of her job and her ambition was painfully close to home for me at times and in this series Katrine's struggle to deal with becoming a mother while still wanting to have a 'big' job reminded me if myself when my DC's were very young. It all feels very real.

But, but, but.......I really want Birgette to get back together with Phillip and Katrine and Kasper to be a happy family with Gustav!

I don't think it's going to happen though, that's not how life goes. Maybe I don't like my dramas quite so real Grin

I thought Torben looked like he was having a stroke but then he seemed to start crying so was it a breakdown?

guineapiglet · 08/12/2013 19:36

Wow, this weekend's double bill was really dramatic and could not stop watching it, it is fantastically well written, and when Birgitte had her wobble in front of the cameras after being so brave, I welled up and then welled up again when she took her kids with her. Was really hoping Philip would do the honorable thing and stay and look after her -was so hoping they would get back together, but they have shown us how it is possible to survive divorce, despite the hellish times they went through with Laura.

Troels is just gorgeous and I hope Katrine gets to be with him, so much more interesting and less selfish than Kaspar, - could not watch the scenes easily with Torben and his wife, so well acted and desperate.

There are far too many spoilers about next week all over the place, it is hard to avoid what is going to happen- cannot believe that will be the last episode, ever, - wouldnt it be brilliant if she really did run for power in Denmark, and won Xmas Grin. Why aren't there more female politicians like her, it was a shame Nete had to be 'the traitor', but it was pretty well signposted. Roll on next week!

Donkeylovesmarzipanandmincepie · 09/12/2013 09:37

Naughty Nete, brave Birgitte! Yes the trio walking along the corridor made my eyes leak shine. Good for Jeremy, turning up to be supportive and undemanding. I thought it built up nicely between Katrine and Soren.

Torben was having a nervous breakdown but he really was a plonker this series

DoctorTwoTurtleDoves · 14/12/2013 11:18

The final ever episodes are this evening. Sad It seems British tv can't make anything as atmospheric as the Scandinavians. I hope they something brilliant lined up as the 9pm Saturday night entertainment.

CremolaFirCone · 14/12/2013 11:44

So excited for tonight. Find Borgen totally absorbing. Time just vanishes while watching.
I think a second The Bridge may be on the cards .....[ hopeful]

carabos · 14/12/2013 20:45

Last ever episodes tonight Shock. Who slipped that in? Now I'm really Sad Angry.

What's next then? Any more Scandi stuff on the horizon? DH doesn't like Borgen (or Bore-on as he calls it), but does like the crime ones - Wallander, The Bridge, The Killing.

smugmumofboys · 14/12/2013 22:01

Nooooo! I'm not sure I can bear to watch this last episode.

Poor little Magnus. Sad

Donkeylovesmarzipanandmincepie · 14/12/2013 22:02

Compelling. Shall miss this it is so good!

CremolaFirCone · 14/12/2013 22:20

Oh I'm crying now FGS . Confused

smugmumofboys · 14/12/2013 23:01

That was magnificent. Absolutely the best thing on TV by a country mile.

Please can Birgitte be our PM?

Did anyone hear the actress who plays Katrine on Woman's Hour? He English is impeccable.

Bellebelle · 14/12/2013 23:02

It's over! Wail! Sad

Scarletbanner · 14/12/2013 23:13

Oh no! So sad that's it, for good.

So - bring on Series 2 of the Bridge...

legoplayingmumsunite · 15/12/2013 00:00

God that was so good. Was convinced Torben was going to jump in the river when he was sacked though, glad he made up with his wife but poor Pia.

For more Scand drama has anyone else been watching 'Don't ever wipe tears without gloves'? It's a fantastic drama about AIDS in Stockholm in the 1980s. The third episode is on on bbc4 (where else?) on Monday but you can probably catch up on iplayer.

DoctorTwoTurtleDoves · 15/12/2013 08:30

Last night's episodes were just about as perfect as you can get. Torben getting fired before strapping on a pair and saving the day, Birgitte ripping Kruse a new one and getting a dream job, Katrine getting her man. All the little threads were drawn together beautifully.

Roll on 4th Jan for the new series of The Bridge.

guineapiglet · 15/12/2013 09:25

Sat utterly absorbed for two hours. Such brilliant writing and acting, the fighting back, winning without resorting to dirty politics, loved it when Kaspar and Svend Age having a fag looking all washed up.... Troels and Katrine....her amazing children.....Jeremy and Philip meeting up (still no contest! Philip so gooooorgeous).

Been a huge fan since first episide, intelligent, bitter sweet very very human. By far the best drama on TV for years. Welled up at the end....sweet

CremolaFirCone · 15/12/2013 13:58

The Best Thing on tv apart from Sherlock Grin
So much so I have booked 4 days in Copenhagen -lol
Hope they do a Borgen tour lol!!!

guineapiglet · 15/12/2013 14:22

Crema you will love Copenhagen, it is a beautiful city - alcohol is very very expensive though, so be warned!!!!! Agree re Sherlock, can't wait for next season to start on New Year's Day - we are all very excited!

The TV shows which got me through the year:
Justified
Sons of Anarchy
The Returned
Sherlock
Borgen

and loved the Bridge, The Killing etc. Wish there was more British drama we could rate highly! :)

moreyear · 29/12/2013 10:21

Oh my goodness, I know I am late...but after a shaky start I warmed to Borgen and have watched the first two series in a couple of weeks. I just started series 3 tonight - and am slightly traumatised by Kasper. What have they done to him?!

I am also planning a visit to Copenhagen after this. :)

NewGirlInTown · 31/12/2013 20:56

Loved Borgen and am traumatised it is over. Really wished that Katrine would get back with (ohmyGod) Kasparr, but not to be. Maybe that means I can have him.
Was anyone else a bit miffed about the cancer storyline? It felt like the powerful and successful woman had to be punished, to me. It really wasn't necessary for the resolution of Birgitte's story.

Denmark is a great country to visit but v expensive as the welfare state is so costly and everything is taxed to high heaven. Do go over the bridge, it is wonderful.

sandodavo · 04/03/2014 12:58

Hi - Noting the post about Birgitte's bag in episode 3 (the tan one), if anyone is able to tell me what make / model it is and where I can get it at a reasonable price, I would be grateful. I confess that I am an impostor in that I am a dad, not a mum, however the point of my question is to try and get the bag as a surprise for my wife who is enduring some of the more challenging parts of motherhood.

Lisarosemary · 07/03/2014 07:59

Hi! I can't be sure but I've been trying to find out (for myself) and I wonder if it's by the Danish designer Malene Birger who I think also does set design for the show? She is selling a similar black tote on her website now....
