I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

I think it would have been good to show the regeneration of 8 into John Hurt on BBC1.

Greenmug · 24/11/2013 08:19

The wee glimpse of Peter Capaldi also made me squeal. I have to admit that I am really sentimental about Dr Who as it was such a part of my childhood (thank you Tom Baker) and I was horrified when they were going to bring it back as I thought they'd ruin my memories. The 80's episode had already made me think it was dead in the water, by oh my, how wrong I was! I have absolutely adored it since CE did his (very sexy IMO) thing and I am beside myself that Peter Capaldi is the new Doctor. Can't wait! Tardis

i really enjoyed banter between matt smith and david tennant. and exciting seeing peter capaldi's eyes.
what a brilliant surprise and well kept secret to see Tom Baker, brought a tear to my eyes.
thought it was a shame that they didnt put more doctors in. and didnt understand the story line.

i guess i am not a true whovian and i am sure there were nods to previous doctors/story lines that i missed.
i really like matt smith and i rreally liked david tennant.
didnt enjoy the last series so much, not keen on clara.
loved rose and donna was a huge favourite.

Tee2072 · 24/11/2013 08:44

It occurred to me that the end should have had 1,000,0000,000 TARDISes at the end to show he goes on forever.

That would've been really cool.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 24/11/2013 08:45

BadWolf, I think they did show the mini-episode of 8 to John Hurt on BBC1 - or was it only iplayer/red button?

RussTDaviesBear · 24/11/2013 09:10

Remember the book Summer Falls - the one Angie was reading in The Bells Of St John, from which the 'spoonhead' that uploaded Clara got it's disguise? I've got that book on Kindle, and in it the 'Doctor' is called the Curator and is looking after the museum in the village....

Well I loved it, I watched it at home with littlest DD while DD1 & her pals went to the cinema dressed as various Drs (stealth boast, my DD was Tom Baker Grin)

MavisKorvarian · 24/11/2013 09:19

Tee - I thought that - they'd already had a nod to 12 who hasn't appeared yet so why not have hundreds of Tardis's (Tardi? Can't tell. Will settle with Tardis) to show all future regenerations were involved.

I must admit I did love the DT exchange with the rabbit..

Tee2072 · 24/11/2013 09:25

That's why I went with TARDISes. Grin Tardis

HowManyDaysUntilChristmas · 24/11/2013 09:25

Woke up still thinking about it, so it must have been good. Does anyone know when the next series starts? And please let there be a Christmas special. It is the only thing I insist on watching from all the Christmas TV!

Fiderer · 24/11/2013 09:27

I've just noticed that on the emoticon list it says "Doctor Who tardis [ tardis ]"

Who else has a Tardis? Grin

Are/Were all Gallifreyans Timelords? Often happened that when a Doctor says he's from Gallifrey someone comments that he's a Timelord then. But they can't all regenerate multiple times into different looking people. Imagine large family gatherings? Worse than my great aunts figuring out who we all are.

Tee2072 · 24/11/2013 09:29

I have a TARDIS, Fid. I just don't like to talk about it.

Yes, HowMany, Christmas special (when we assume the regeneration into 12 will happen) and then new series probably not until late next year.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 24/11/2013 09:31

The Master has (or had) a TARDIS, as did the Rani.

Interestingly (OK, for a specialist value of "interesting" Grin), in "An Unearthly Child" Susan says that she made up the nickname TARDIS, but it appears to be an acronym universally used by other Time Lords whenever we see them. Was she self-deluding or just incredibly influential?

HowManyDaysUntilChristmas · 24/11/2013 09:32

Thanks Tee. Yeah for Christmas special, boo for having to wait that long for new series.

RussTDaviesBear · 24/11/2013 09:34

Think the 'Doctor Who' bit on the emoticon list is for unfortunate people like SPsWouldCatFishNev, who apparently don't actually know what a TARDIS is....

SuburbanCrofter · 24/11/2013 09:36

Did anyone watch the Five(ish) Doctors Reboot on red button afterwards? It was very funny. I particularly liked the bit where the doctors find out Barrowman is secretly straight with a wife and kids, and persuade him to drive them to Cardiff, and he sings showtunes the entire way Grin

Tee2072 · 24/11/2013 09:37

I am waiting to have time to watch it properly Suburban. It's on YouTube also.

TheSontaranPussycat · 24/11/2013 09:38

I seem to remember Daleks having a Tardis in an episode a long long time ago. There was a Tardis chase, they landed all over the place but the only one I can remember was on the Mari Celeste.

These days I watch with the sub-titles on, it's the only way I can catch a) the throwaway lines and b) the Dr's expositions of the plot delivered at 200 wpm. I was impressed by the celebration epi, and actually managed to understand it as I was watching (I think!)

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 24/11/2013 09:39

I thought the Peter Davison thing was brilliant -- there were so many details worked in and they sent themselves up wonderfully. Could have done with more McGann, though Grin.

Davros · 24/11/2013 09:50

I've never been keen in Matt Smith. That's an understatement, he ruined it for me, didn't like Clara and thought Strphen Miffat had completely list his touch. Until last night Tardis

Rummikub · 24/11/2013 09:51

Thanks for the link to the mini episode Tee. I didn't kno about it. Was it on tv?

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 24/11/2013 09:52

Rummikub -- not directly; it was on the Internet for a while and then it was accessible via red button for a few days.

RussTDaviesBear · 24/11/2013 09:52

With the Time lord ageing thing, I had always assumed they did, if they weren't forced to regenerate due to accident/illness- after all Susan was noticeably older in The Five Doctors than in Dalek Invasion of Earth, and if William Hartnell was the first incarnation, presumably he wasn't born 'old'. (And didn't he say when he regenerated something like 'this body is getting old'?) And the war doctor in the 50th anniversary episode looked a lot older than the brief glimpse we got in The Night of The Doctor.

But the 11th doctor doesn't look older at 1200 than he did at 900.
Maybe being in the Tardis constantly inhibits ageing; most Time lords on Gallifrey just took trips from time to time, they didn't actually live in a Tardis. So possibly John Hurt's ageing was due to something he encountered during the Time war, some kind of time weapon similar to Lazarus's device?

I don't know, you could go nuts trying to figure out continuity these days....
