I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

oops forgot I could do one of these Tardis

I thought it had some good one liners but was a little hard to follow the actual plot - but then that's how I've always felt about Dr. Who for the last forty years - (I missed the first 5-10yrs or so - but I've known and loved most of the doctors) I felt quite emotional at times this evening - and thought Zoe did a decent job of the party, but could have done with better support. She should have hosted with Captain Jack, he'd have been ace.
They should have upped the budget to get him on board as co-host.
Analysis of evening completed! (as K9 might have said Smile)

MaryZygon · 23/11/2013 23:12

Yes, fancy.

Most of us would settle for a body we fancy. We can kid ourselves adapt to the person Grin

edamsavestheday · 23/11/2013 23:19

Agree with shiny, Donna deffo the best companion ever. And her ending the most tragic.

RussTDaviesBear · 23/11/2013 23:37

On hassled's questions (yes, I know it was a long time ago but I've been rewatching an adventure in space and time with DD who missed it on Thursday)

1 - in a Master episode, some Galifreyans appeared through some sort of vortex - I can't remember why but Pierce Brosnan was definitely there. How, if they were frozen in time/space? DH says they came from pre-Time War, but that makes no sense

In the End of Time, on the last day of the Time War, the Time Lord Council know that the Doctor has "the Moment". They know he will use it to end the war by destroying the Daleks and Gallifrey. They retroactively implant the four-beat rhythm in the Master as a psychic link and send the Gallifreyan diamond to Earth as physical link, which lets the Time Lord council escape from Gallifrey and come to earth, and then we get the events leading up to 10's regeneration. I assume that this now doesn't happen, but I don't know whether the 13 doctors put Gallifrey in stasis before the drum beat was implanted in the Master in childhood- if so, then maybe the Master's whole life was changed.

2 - Why no mention of the Master? Had he left Galifrey before then?

In the Sound of Drums the Master said he was there when the Dalek emperor took the Cruciform and he ran and made himself human (Professor Yana) - presumably this was shortly before the events of the last day.

RussTDaviesBear · 23/11/2013 23:41

I'm now thinking that it was the elixir on Karn, which triggered 8's regeneration, that also overcame the 13 limitation - maybe also explains why the doctor now regenerates with streaming vortex energy, which he never did before.

Grin Nancy

I couldn't persuade ds to dress up for the cinema, sadly, being in Year 6 has made him far more self-conscious about appearance. But there was one guy in the audience who had dressed as multiple doctors. Not sure if all of them as I could only see his top half but Tom Baker's scarf, Patrick Troughton's hat, David Tennant-y suit plus Ecclestone's jacket and I'm sure a stick of celery in the pocket... Tardis

Davros · 24/11/2013 00:08

Loved every minute! It was great at the cinema although there weren't many "dress ups". A few Fezs, stripy scarf and a sonic screwdriver but it was in the middle of the O2, full if people doing all sorts of things, not just DW. There were two brilliant pre messages, the "turn off your mobiles" message from the So tartans and then a little duo between MS and DT saying the 3D was about to start and Dt took over to warn us to watch out for MS's chin in 3D! There was a big cheer when it started and when we saw PC's eyes, lots of laughter and clapping at the end. Really well worth forcing ourselves out on a Saturday night. Tardis

AnneEyhtMeyerInSilver · 24/11/2013 00:24

The red button 80s Doctors episode was brilliant. I think I preferred it to the anniversary episode.

The shoe-horning-in of Billie Piper was ridiculous. Did enjoy seeing Tom Baker, and Hurt had some very good lines.

I can't wait to see the back of Matt Smith.

Back from my event. Just watched it. LOVED IT! Tardis

That is all.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 24/11/2013 01:00

Brilliant!

Jux · 24/11/2013 01:05

MS is my favourite of the 'modern' Doctors. Clara my favourite of the 'modern' assts.

I was glad to see the end of DT; the whole 'sexy' to appeal to the mums who fancy him thing got on my wick. I liked Rose while she was there, but it did all get boringly sloppy, so was quite relieved when she went. I liked Donna a lot; her end was tragic and horrific.

Loathe RiverSong. It would be nice if we never have to suffer her crap acting again. Couldn't she somehow get sent off to Rose's universe and talk portentously there?

teejwood · 24/11/2013 01:13

Hello all, sorry not to have been around for the build up etc - blardy RL - grrrr..

But...I loved it tonight. I really did. So many individual moments, one-liners and nods to the past. But after nearly four decades I probably need to acknowledge that I am a sucker for the premise and always will be. It does not need to be perfect drama because it is always about possibility.

And props to Moff for giving us the third phase of the series. The search for Gallifrey gives the doctor a purpose to go forward and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Loved the slight glimpse of Capaldi and was in tears a) at the three Doctors ready to take responsibility for the end of Gallifrey b) at all the Doctors coming to save the day and c) at Tom Baker (my Doctor back in the day) as the Curator.

Just loved it. That is all. Tardis

MonkeysInTheFog · 24/11/2013 01:54

Don't understand Tom Baker's appearance at all though.

Time Lords don't age, do they?

ShinyBauble · 24/11/2013 03:04

No, I think we had to suspend disbelief for that one! He did regenerate when he was much younger of course, but I suppose CGI can only do so much.

juniperDontevenblinkNZ · 24/11/2013 05:43

Absolutely brilliant! Loved it :) Actually let out a loud "ooh ooh ooh" when Peter Capaldi appeared (at which point all three dc turned round and stared at me - I turned into the kid Grin ). DD (5) also thinks I am officially mad as I clapped at the end - "what are you doing that for mummy?" Blush
Thought the interaction between the doctors was really good.
I've always loved Steven Moffat's writing, but was a bit disappointed with some of his Matt Smith stuff - definitely showed his genius tonight though :)
Will be watching again tonight when the kids have gone to bed - 9am is not a good time to be watching, with interruptions every 10 seconds (3 dc 5 and under...)

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 24/11/2013 06:54

To whoever said Martha & Mickey were a good pair - he's too good for her love Mickey/Noel Clarke

GlaikitOfGallifrey · 24/11/2013 06:59

DH has said thatTom Baker faked his own ageing to blend in with RL as the curator. I can stick with that!

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 24/11/2013 07:19

That'll do Glakit

BalloonSlayer · 24/11/2013 07:33

In the introduction to the cinema showing the MS Doctor said he had just been to the 100th year celebrations with all 57 doctors, so I don't think the writers are all that bothered about there can only be 13 Doctors.

I loved it but thought the Tom Baker bit was a weak point. I didn't get exactly who (geddit?) or what he was supposed to be. He couldn't be the 4th Doctor as he obviously much younger than that when he was regenerated. It just felt like an excuse to shoe-horn Tom Baker in at any cost.

fancyanotherfez · 24/11/2013 07:53

Was Tom Baker meant to be The Doctor when he had retired and settled down to look after all the paintings? i.e. he is a future incarnation? He said he had revisited an old face...
mary true, I'm sure I could settle for DT's body and get used to the personality!

DidntBadWolfDragOn · 24/11/2013 07:57

Time Lords don't age, do they?

Has that actually been stated as "fact"? Obviously they don't often age much as they've regenerated but that's often through accident/injury - I can't see why it couldn't be through old age if they've lead a safe life :)

DidntBadWolfDragOn · 24/11/2013 08:03

maybe also explains why the doctor now regenerates with streaming vortex energy, which he never did before.

That's probably just due to better special effects Wink
