Following on from the first thread...

It took me ages to get to sleep last night. I'm not particularly maudlin in general but that was shocking.

Predictions: Isabel and Mosley die.

I reckon Thomas will expose / 'get' Green
Mrs Hughes will suspect Anna and Bates
agree someone unexpected will leg it to America

Maybe Edith to have her baby?!!

He did say "Not exactly" or something about what they're doing there, so I'm not sure... maybe they'll find out about the cheque?

I liked Evelyn Napier though, I don't know why. Probably because he didn't really have a major storyline!

Could he marry Edith? He'd be the most 'suitable' husband out of all three girls then, none of those worrying middle class tendencies. Although he does have a job and "a boss".

Oops, didn't dawn on me for a second that Edith might be happy about being preg! Jeeze she really does have her head in the clouds if she thinks it's all hunky dory.

I'm sure I read somewhere that all the main characters in this series have also signed up for series 5. That might give some clues as to who's staying/going...if it's true of course.

Slightly off topic but does anybody else think that Michelle Dockery reminds them of Rosamund Pike? Their voices are quite similar and www.zimbio.com/photos/Michelle+Dockery/Rosamund+Pike this picture shows that they have similar facial features when they smile. Rosamund could easily pass as her sister.

According to celeb magazines Edith is pregnant.

Maybe Bates will fixate on some innocent individual as the rapist and go after him...that will leave Anna and Mrs Hughes in deep do-do.

Bates is a creepy wife beater (and murderer). I thought he was great in the first season and then they showed him all vicious and threatening calling his wife a bitch.
There was no way he could come back from that and become a romantic figure.
His reaction to Anna's rape has been chilling. It's telling that she's come across as almost more traumatised about his reaction to it than the rape itself. And the way he lied to her? So calculating and scary.

It's 1922 ish so no direct war link immediately with Germany? wonder why he's gone there. was there skulduggery after WW1 there? where is his loony wife> maybe Edith will seek her out with her new journalistic skillz

Am I the only person who finds Lady Mary's style of speaking really irritating? Monotonous but with a very modern rising inflection at the end of most sentences..

So did Bates actually kill his wife? I only got into DA later on, an never properly caught up.

b) can't deal with the poor writing

unsure if he really killed her, did they leave it a bit ambiguously? or did he do it and have a good lawyer/anna looking for holes?

I think Michele Dockery has a natural estuary English accent so that montotone drawl is all she can do in the way of "posh"

I don't think Bates DID do the first Mrs B in, although he might have wanted to & probably was violent towards her. He was proper creepy at the end of the last episode.

I agree Green will get done over at some point possibly by Thomas or someone to do with him, and as ever Mrs H will Know a Lot More Than She Lets on ......

I saw Michelle Dockery do Eliza in Pygmalion long before she landed Downton and she is actually a really excellent actress. I think she is ill-served by Uncle Julian.

What has happened to Mr Bates in this series? He has become an annoying shit. Pisses me right off every time I see his leather skinned potato head on my screen. Is it just me or does he annoy anyone else?

Chaffinch, the Dastardly Editor has gone to Germany because you're allowed to divorce lunatics there. Whether you're allowed to divorce non-German lunatics has not been discussed - surely Mrs Dastardly has the right of protection under the law in her own country?

Bates is a bit superfluous this series, but then he has been hogging all the storylines up until now.
