Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one Grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

OP posts:
Pooka · 08/10/2013 21:02

I like Ruby!

Rosa · 08/10/2013 21:03

Bugger really wanted Cristine to stay.
As for Rubys skills come on ...pleeeeaaasseee yes the roof was original but as for the chocolate is it that hard ????
Notice they diddn't eat the poppy seed soil can't imagine that would have tastes that good.
Kimberleys looked loads better .

booboomonster · 08/10/2013 21:04

Agree with the views re a bias towards Ruby - it's like they are trying to make her feel better. Her cake did look messy but also appeared to have not risen properly when we saw the inside. So irritating!

booboomonster · 08/10/2013 21:05

Sorry I find Ruby super irritating!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/10/2013 21:06

They are killing the show with the blatant fixing.

If it manages to come back then they need to replace Paul and Mary.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/10/2013 21:08

Pile of shite. Soooooo fixed.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/10/2013 21:10

I am not sure Paul and Mary are the problem. It is hardly their agenda.

coffeeinbed · 08/10/2013 21:11

It really looked as if they were nitpicking.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 08/10/2013 21:13

Came on here to see if anyone else thought that ruby's showstopper was a pile of pants....

I bake dairy free (every fucking day!). That shed was piss poor. It may have had a nice roof but as a showstopper it was shit.

DH just turned to me and said I don't know if I can be bothered to watch next week with such biased judging (he is the biggest bake off fan ever!). We swing between a theory that she's shagged a producer or has very deep pockets.

On a positive note it was christine's week to go sadly.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/10/2013 21:14

I think Paul and Mary are a big part of the problem, agree not all of it, but a big part nevertheless.

Paul blatantly plays favourites (he was terribly rude to Glen for example) and Mary seems to be getting more bitter and miserable every week. The way she wrinkles her nose and pouts before putting people down is getting embarrassing.

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2013 21:15

I like Ruby as well pooka and bea we didn't taste her actual cake it must 've tasted good and it was more complex than just putting fondant icing over it all, even if the shed was a bit drunken looking.

BTW who said chocolate is dairy; you can get dark dairy free chocolate (which is all I eat!!) much nicer than milk chocolate esp. the cheap stuff. It was Sad at the end they all were soo upset about Christine going.

OneStepCloser · 08/10/2013 21:15

Dont post on here much, but, Im so disappointed in this series. They are pushing for Ruby, and I cant help but think its because she has the right face for a tv show, have the previous winners not sold enough books maybe. Im not saying shes not good, but its like there is not a competiton this time, Ruby will win.

I though Kimberlys Toadstool was just gorgeous, and Paul was so vicious to the others, boo hiss.

I cant wait for the Dressmaking show to come back now.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/10/2013 21:18

The thing is, Ruby may have "the right face for tv", but her personality on TV has been a turn off for a lot of people. I can't see her doing well in the media afterwards. She isn't very likeable.

sparklesandbling · 08/10/2013 21:19

I think fix fix fix

looking at past years all the winners have been young, studenty types, they obviously don't like older people or those with years of experience winning.

This years programme has really put me off watching next year. I think the judges are judging the personalities of the bakers rather than the bakes!

TickledOnion · 08/10/2013 21:20

Kimberley's looked good because she used a shaped cake tin and ready made icing. Ruby's was entirely made by her and original. I'm not keen on her but she is a good baker.

Itsjustafleshwound · 08/10/2013 21:21

But then who has actually bought the book and all the stuff that comes from GBBO.

The only happy ones must be MB and PH so it doesn't really matter who wins or who they want to win

The previous two winners were likeable ... I hate Ruby's false modesty

Itsjustafleshwound · 08/10/2013 21:22

Remember Jo - also no self belief

ithaka · 08/10/2013 21:24

Oh that was frustrating. I can't believe they didn't even mention Ruby's wonky shed. If that had been Frances' cake they would have been gleeful in their scorn.

Picking Frances up on not making one wee pot then being apparently blind to a massive flaw when it is Ruby. My DH has just said 'Ruby could produce a turd on a plate and Paul would say it was delicious and well executed'.

The thing about Ruby is, if you shut your eyes, she has an incredibly, nasal, whiny, negative voice. If she was plump and plain I think she would get far less sympathy with her endless mentioning of her exams.

I would like anyone to win except Ruby, but sadly it is clear it is a stitch up - which spoils the whole fun of the programme.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 08/10/2013 21:25

I will play the Devil's Advocate and say that Mary and Paul had to be extra harsh picky in their judging this week. It was really sad to see Christine go as she has excelled in other bakes.

It was heartening to see Ruby feel positive about her work. I think she is finding her confidence when she is under pressure.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/10/2013 21:27

They were extra picky with everyone apart from Ruby, though. That is why it was overwhelmingly obvious it was a fix.

sparklesandbling · 08/10/2013 21:28

I think its time we got some new fresh faced judges, fed up of PH and harsh mary

OneStepCloser · 08/10/2013 21:31

I agree sparkling, might be time for new judges. I`m not saying that Ruby is not a good baker, but the bias is so obvious, its really putting me off.

wintera · 08/10/2013 21:32

Surely Ruby is exactly like James from last year's show no? Student, eccentric type (especially with their clothing) seemed to wing it quite a few times due to exams, made wonky looking things (last year James's wonky barn thing, this year a wonky shed). Don't remember James getting as much stick though. In fact all we heard last year was how lovely and gorgeous James was in his cutesy wutesy knitted fucking tank tops!

Sorry, sorry I may still be harbouring some resentment over all that from last year as I didn't find him fanciable at all. Apologies for getting unreasonably annoyed about tank tops.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 08/10/2013 21:34

It would be lovely to see some of the past winners as judges.
I think Paul's personal life has put people off him.

coffeeinbed · 08/10/2013 21:36

James didn't whine all the time though.
