Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one Grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

Ruby and her Princess Di look annoys me.
I want Becca to win but I like Kimberley and Christine too.
They all need to learn to tie their hair back.

Badvoc · 03/10/2013 19:58

I just think Ruby's whole "oh I'm so rubbish don't look at my pitiable offering" is wearing a bit thin now.
She is obv a talented bAker. They all are or they wouldn't be there.
I don't think she asked mel for help to be mean...she is just young and very self centred.
Can't stand Paul H.
Never have been able to.
Love sue and mel though :)

yesbutnobut · 03/10/2013 20:05

I think Christine will be next to go - she seems to be just producing old family favourites rather than stretching herself. Frances is coming to the forefront but it does differ week to week - if it's a 'bread' week then Ruby could do something amazing again.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/10/2013 20:18

Paul is absolutely in love with himself, isn't he?

iklboo · 03/10/2013 20:23

I used to like him but either he's starting to believe his own press a bit too much or they're editing him to look like a knob.

picnicbasketcase · 03/10/2013 20:46

I want Beca to win. If not her, then Christine. Not to sound too unkind but I find the other three irritating.

wintera · 04/10/2013 08:21

Sometimes I wonder whether I'm watching the same show as the rest of you honestly. The thing with Ruby was no big deal. Mel said shall I give you a talking to? Ruby said no but I might need it later. Mel said she'd be on hand for said talking to. Then when Ruby needed it she said oh I need that talking to now. To which Mel quickly obliged whist still helping Frances. It was no big deal and no big drama at all.

And as far as I know we don't know for sure that Ruby's mum was on the last thread. It definitely sounded like one of her relatives though.

Gracelo · 04/10/2013 08:53

I don't think "burnt" is an either/or scenario, people have different preferences how well baked they like things and iirc Ruby made this comment about buns which had chocolate in the dough which would have been quite dark anyway, so not that easy to judge the bake. I thought for years that our local Tesco was burning about half of the morning rolls until one day some other shopper overheard a remark I made to dp about it and told me rather tartly that "this is how we like our morning rolls here in Scotland".
One thing I have noticed is that both Mary and Paul usually like the flavours in Ruby's bakes even if the bake hasn't turned out quite right. That's something you really need talent for, or what Greg and John over at Masterchef call "a palate" (uncertain about the spelling now, it looks weird).
Otherwise I agree with Pachacuti (and now I have that song stuck in my head).

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2013 10:43

True Gracelo and wintera I never said I LIKED PH (there doesn't seem to room for self doubt in his personality) I said that he looks at most people in a particular way.

Breadrollsbuns · 04/10/2013 20:45

I'm just watching the pastry episode on iPlayer - is it me or is there major passive aggressive tension between Mary and Christine? Fight fight fight Grin

nennypops · 04/10/2013 22:24

I just think Ruby's whole "oh I'm so rubbish don't look at my pitiable offering" is wearing a bit thin now.

Why "now"? She didn't do it in the last programme - it looks like she's developing some faith in herself.

I agree with Pacahuti.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2013 08:44

ExitPursuedByADragon · 05/10/2013 11:01

GBBO2MAB · 05/10/2013 11:05

Hi All,

Sounds like lots of you are enjoying the show.

Just wanted clarify something about taking part in the marquee: Whenever contestants are shown talking, without the judges or Sue/Mel being there, 95% of the time they will have been asked something by a producer. The question, and sometimes the context, is then edited out and sometimes the video and sound are even edited separately.

Please don't assume the contestants are 'naturally' narrating their techniques or voicing their thoughts.

Have fun with the rest of the programs! Smile

Mary-Anne

ExitPursuedByADragon · 05/10/2013 11:20

^^

Shock

Again

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 05/10/2013 14:01

I agree, Ruby's schtick is REALLY annoying now!

And whoever said she and Glenn turned out similar-looking bakes, but Paul called his 'hideous' and hers 'a bit messy' – yes! Flagrant double standards. I was shocked. Paul transparently fancies Ruby.

I don't think Kimberley is 'over confident', just confident. What's wrong with that?

secretscwirrels · 05/10/2013 14:16

Why is this not on the Saturday night prime slot?
In our house Howard was the favourite.
Both of my teenage boys think Ruby is fake and fishing for complements.
As the show has gone on I've really warmed to Becca and I hope she wins.

I have loved Mel and Sue since I was on maternity leave during their Light Lunch days. They are the Ant and Dec of baking.
Paul and Mary could easily be replaced and the show would lose nothing. I don't feel either of them add much to the programme.

VikingVagine · 05/10/2013 15:11

Wotcher Mary-Anne

You see? We're all being manipulated by the editing. They're all perfectly normal lovely people, made to look annoying by the show's producers.

PumpUpMyVolume · 05/10/2013 15:15

Thanks for the new thread...

Having had some time since the show and reading lots of the comments, I've decided that there is something very likable about all if the remaining 5:

  • Kimberly, has high standards for herself and produces some really interesting bakes
  • Christine, a tad old fashioned but her experience means she makes some delicious sounding things as she knows what goes
  • Ruby, i would say the most talented & natural baker of the bunch but winds me up something chronic
  • Beca, i think seems lovely and probably the one left who.most reminds me of me of& how i bake
  • Frances, her puff pastries blew me away so am a recent convert but seems the most grounded if them (always happy to do well!)

So i am reserving judgement for who i want to win until we get to the final 3 (although would like to see Christine or Kimberly in that line up!)

ExitPursuedByADragon · 05/10/2013 15:52

I am a victim of self editing.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2013 16:00

ExitPursued Grin well it's good to know our opinions are being noted thanks for that mary anne. Grin

VikingVagine · 08/10/2013 19:53
