Did you for it then LeQueen?!

deepfriedsage · 28/09/2013 22:45

The hologram Dr? Not my cup of tea, each to their own.

frustratedashell · 28/09/2013 22:48

Don't think he was a hologram, that was the almost bald one. Oh yes very nice!

It was ok, it didn't make much sense though, Jason was diving looking for his fathers ship and then all of a sudden he was on a beach and didn't seem to bothered that it was a completely different world, he just got on with it Hmm

Also liked seeing Rob from Stella Smile I like him I do, wonder will he be back in it

stripeyslippers · 29/09/2013 07:59

It was watchable nonsense.

Agree the mangling of names is annoying, but then it was never going to be accurate, was it?

Not sure why Jason had to be from the modern day and travel back to the lost city. Hope there isn't too much modern/ancient crossover as the series goes on

TapTapBangBang · 29/09/2013 08:04

I thought it was awful.

I'm also curious as to why Pythagoras is in it when it's all Greek myths. Wonder if there's going to be loads of children who begin to think he wasn't real because the BBC had him in Atlantis.

Tee2072 · 29/09/2013 08:28

It is an odd mix of myth and truth, isn't it?

And I agree about Jason just accepting that he's in ancient Greece and/or Atlantis much too easily.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2013 08:32

I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable Saturday evening viewing.

Didn't Jason say at some point that everything seemed very familiar and right? That would explain why he didn't seem overly fazed by it all. I missed the very beginning so only saw him on the beach.

TapTapBangBang · 29/09/2013 08:36

He was born there, they did explain early on in the programme that his father had taken him away from Atlantis. I expect we will give episode 2 a go and if it doesn't get better we will give up.

It's a shame because we liked merlin.

nametakenagain · 29/09/2013 08:50

I found it very disappointing. Confusing combinations of myth and fact without the redeeming characteristics of Merlin.

Tee2072 · 29/09/2013 09:05

That's exactly it, Nametaken.

Although I wasn't a huge fan of Merlin, it was better than this for sure.

See, I watched the first few episodes of Merlin, thought this is shit and didn't watch any more.

ShatnersBassoon · 29/09/2013 12:36

We didn't see it. Is it suitable for all the family? DH reckons not because it was on at almost 9pm, but I thought it must be aimed at families being on Saturday evening.

Ds1 has just watched it, I don't really understand why it was on so late, shame really.

The fat jokes towards Robert Baratheon got a bit old a bit quick.

Ds was discustid at the mangling of Greek, roman, rl, myth etc.

TheWinterOne · 29/09/2013 13:27

Ahh sod it! I've been wondering when this was starting. iplayer it is then!

macthecatsmum · 29/09/2013 13:53

Gaahh! I like a bit of saturday night hokum, but my gods-what a load of mixed up shite. Jason in the labyrinth-no that was not in Atlantis, and it was soddin' Theseus.Hercules-Fuckin hercules! Its greece not Rome, Pythagoras eh? Even DD who loves Percy jackson-just walked out and greek Mythology loving ds is in fits. Do they just put everything in a bag and go oh yes that will look nice with a bit of cgi? Sorry, I was brought up on Robert Graves Greek Myths so any bastardisation makes me boak.

hattymattie · 29/09/2013 15:00

We enjoyed it as Saturday night family viewing (complete with M&M's). But agree that the BBC will be responsible for a whole generation of children thinking that Jason killed the minotaur. I do think they should keep to the myths as far as possible. I was already annoyed at several liberties taken with Merlin.

WorldPeaceAndFreeProsecco · 29/09/2013 15:02

I'm holding out for some kind of post modern reason for the mish mash of myths.

hattymattie · 29/09/2013 15:04

It seems a shame to miss the easy opportunity to educate

SadBadMadFat · 29/09/2013 17:32

okay. DC laughed in all the right places.

I love Mark Addy so he was good.
Pythagorass looks like Art Garfunkel.
Jason looks like a cross between Ralph Little and Lee Mead.

Cue token torso shots, smouldering female eye contact, the gorgeous Alexander Siddig, the token ''been in every saturday night family prog''Sarah Parrish (even though she is good), the poster that compared the characters to the ones in Merlin was right.

otherwise, a bit meh, but will do till Who! and something we sit on the sofa together and watch.
