Anyone watching?

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 17/09/2013 21:55

Oh and I wish I had had Tatiana when I was in labour, though my midwife was ok (the one at the actual birth). The rest just left me to it with no gas and air until I was transfered to the consultant led unit.

Thurlow · 17/09/2013 21:55

Ah, fuckwittery, yes, I imagine it is the same hospital, with the new birthing centre but the shite and busy old wards? Apparently it is better now but everyone I know had a disaster there, we all gave birth within the first few months of it opening. When were you there?

Last mw was lovely. Mw's should encourage women to try different things and support and coach them, but not patronisingly. As this mw managed.

mignonette · 17/09/2013 21:55

Thurlow All they should have written in your notes was "Ms Thurlow became tearful and requested another room. It was explained that we could/couldn't do this"

No opinion should be there of your presentation.

Doodledumdums · 17/09/2013 21:56

Thurlow That is bloody awful. I can't believe they wrote that, how horrible.

Fuckwittery- Ah okay I see what you mean. Yes they should explain the pros and cons, definitely.

Sticks with you, doesn't it dueling? I was kind of ok until that night when they dimmed the lights and all the other babies were awake and I was just staring at the ceiling thinking "oh, hang on..." Turned out there was an empty bed in the SCBU transition side ward but it was obviously beyond them to have a note on their desk saying 'mum in bed X would probably like a baby-free bed if it's available for the night'!

squoosh · 17/09/2013 21:58

Lydia is a popular name in Cardiff!

HRHwheezing · 17/09/2013 21:58

Can you imagine a mum to be watching this and knowing that she has to go into this hospital?

lyndie · 17/09/2013 21:59

She has a neurological condition so they said she was only allowed to push for 30 minutes otherwise she would have put too much pressure on her Budd-Chiari malformation.

This program just reinforces my opinion that some women shouldn't become MWs.

Shock Those wards are unbelievable. The actual birthing bit of the hospital is wonderful, if you do end up there, I had the best experience on that bit. But I don't think the wards have changed. Hope you get the home birth you want.

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2013 22:02

My notes said I 'refused all help with bfing'. I begged for help and they told me that there was none available and which formula would I like. They also kicked me out at 12hrs post emcs saying in my notes 'baby was feeding well and mum was happy'. No. I was sobbing. The baby hadn't latched on once. They also noted that I seemed 'fractious' at one point. I'd been in labour for 31hrs with no pain relief, fully dilated for 8hrs and a doctor had just put both hands inside me to try and turn my baby. Yes I was fucking fractious.

Aaaaah. And dump.

HumphreyCobbler · 17/09/2013 22:03

bloody hell fuckwittery and showofhands

that is truly appalling

FunnyRunner · 17/09/2013 22:05

I do wonder why MN doesn't start a campaign about this. I get so angry reading about the awful experiences women have giving birth, however they do it. I think midwifery as a profession needs a serious overhaul from the top down, starting with the whole, 'natural birth with no pain relief is the gold standard' bollocks.

My experience is putting me off another pregnancy and I'm too old to have the luxury of time to 'get over it' :(

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2013 22:08

I must state though that second time round they'd opened a new ward and retrained all their midwives in all sorts of things, including bfing. I had a really positive experience, bfing support was spot on and I positively enjoyed the whole thing. The situation was v similar (long labour, emcs) but the support made all the difference. They didn't seem short staffed either second time round which was half the problem first time round.

Thurlow · 17/09/2013 22:08

Fractious! Shock That's unbelievable.

notundermyfoof · 17/09/2013 22:25

Shock at some of the things coming out here! My notes bear no resemblance to what actually happened in my labour at all, they just cover their arses and then say you were too out of it to remember Angry

Doodledumdums · 17/09/2013 22:32

I really want to get hold of my notes now. Are you allowed to request them?

Doodledumdums · 17/09/2013 22:49

Oh great, thanks Smile I'll have a look on my hospital website. I really would like to see them after watching tonights episode and hearing peoples experiences on here.
