Anyone watching?

Doodledumdums, please don't let them upset you.

Thurlow · 17/09/2013 21:44

Doodle, programmes like this always both piss me off and upset me. I really need to learn to turn them off. I get annoyed that wanting pain relief is seen as a bad thing, or the suggestion that you did something wrong in order to end up with an emcs. I also get upset because I didn't see DD for 12 hours, so seeing mums holding their gunky newborn is hard.

Cheekybubbles · 17/09/2013 21:45

Glad I came on here to see, I thought it was just me being over sensitive! Their attitudes towards epidurals are shocking! I'm also really upset by it. Normally I like this programme but tonight I'm really not keen.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2013 21:45

For several reasons I wish I had had a CS..don't let them upset you Doodle

DuelingFanjo · 17/09/2013 21:46

This is in Cardiff isn't it. I gave birth there. This is making me want to see my notes as I was a frequent admission and I'd love to know what they thought of me.

notundermyfoof · 17/09/2013 21:46

((Doodle)) I should turn it off too, it's really triggering for me too Sad

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2013 21:47

Pain is not just a state of mind

Semi woo there..scary

mignonette · 17/09/2013 21:47

It's funny how they assume that all women want to form a 'relationship' with their MW. I really didn't care less about any 'bond'. I wanted them to do their job, that was all. I wasn't interested in feeling as if they 'knew me'. As long as they read my notes and were professional, competent and thorough I really didn't care about the other stuff.

SebbysMum · 17/09/2013 21:48

I've had a birth with loads of drugs and another quick and quite natural. Feel no shame at all about the epidurals but still a sense of achievement about doing it (more) naturally the second time. Horses for courses, I did what I had to.

Don't approve of the ambulance use for someone still mobile though. Understand transport options limited for some people but cost of ambulance is huge.

Doodledumdums · 17/09/2013 21:48

Thanks fanjo and humphrey - My DS is 8 months old so I think it is all a bit raw still to be watching this and listening to their horrible opinions.

Thurlow How awful for you to not see your DD for 12 hours Sad. I think I need to learn to turn these programmes off too. Sitting here in tears is not constructive or necessary!

mignonette · 17/09/2013 21:49

Actually the MW Tatiana's use of compresses is good. Not that many MW's do that.

Thurlow · 17/09/2013 21:50

Go for it, dueling. Notes are fascinating things. My first night after the cs, DD was in NICU and I was on a ward with 5 other mums with newborns. I was in hysterics and went to the desk to ask if there was anywhere else I could go - I'd even pay for a private room. I know it wasn't their fault there was no other bed but they weren't even sympathetic. When I had a debrief recently my notes relating to that night said simply "mother was overly emotional, made us move her to another bed" Shock Even the mw doing the debrief was shocked. So notes are entertaining!

RobinBedRest · 17/09/2013 21:50

They gave a percentage of births ending in complications after an epidural implying it was all down to the epidural. Anyone else thinking if it were a straight forward birth the woman would be less likely to be demanding an epidural. Perfect example was the woman with a back to back birth.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2013 21:50

DD is nearly 7 and still.feel a bit raw watching them tbh.

Thurlow · 17/09/2013 21:51

Sorry, just realised I'm dumping stuff on this thread - this why I shouldn't watch these programmes Blush

HRHwheezing · 17/09/2013 21:51

She seems a very frightened young lady.

In fact a few of these women seem to be young.

That midwife seems nice

No HCP should ever write anything other than the objective facts in the notes. Personal interpretation is not acceptable. It used to be common and I have read some appalling things in patients notes especially in the old psychiatry case files.

Doodledumdums · 17/09/2013 21:52

notundermyfoof- Thanks Smile, we should definitely boycott the programme tonight. No one needs to be made to feel bad.

I think that last midwife was great. I would have loved to have had her as my midwife.

DuelingFanjo · 17/09/2013 21:53

Thurlow, me too. Ds in nicu for ten days and me on the ward for three. I did get a private room but not until they had put me on the ward with all the women with babies and without telling me anything about how or when I could visit my baby.

mignonette · 17/09/2013 21:53

Lydia is a truly beautiful name.
