Very excited!

Paul Hollywood does piss me off tbh, but I love seeing all the cakes & stuff. Will probably have to make something to eat whilst watching it though...

Just agreeing with all of you on here, Kimberley is lovely (DD says she's the only one smiling in the pix for the tech challenge) and should have been star baker; Ruby v pretty but annoying.

Army wife getting on my nerves; gimmick woman really annoying. Those matchsticks were just ridiculous.

How old is Kimberley? She looks about 21 but she must be older if she is a psychologist...

Gracelo · 29/08/2013 09:44

They said she is 30 if I remember right. I agree she looks younger. I think she'll bag a few star bakers before the show is over.
More important that they get right who they send home, I suppose, rather than who is star baker although it does feel unfair.

harrietlichman · 29/08/2013 20:46

Haven't read whole thread, so forgive me if this has been raised already...but when the hell is this filmed?? It looks like spring, going by the spring flowers and trees in early leaf...so surely it must be done and dusted by now?? I don't get it - am I missing something?

nocarsgo · 29/08/2013 21:21

Yes, they would have started filming in the Spring and carried on every weekend for about three months. Filming would've finished a long time ago, so the contestants just have to keep quiet!

Ruby is absolutely stunning to look at. She should be a model

Apologies for the daily fail link, but it appears that she has already been a model.

Ruby reminds me of Naomi from 90210

Ruby's peacock cake was a cake from a nightmare.

Octopus cake was a great big mess.

EVERYTHING Kimberley made was beautiful.

Army wife was a bit snippy, wasn't she? True colours? On the other hand, I quite like the fact that she's blunt and no-nonsense.

Woman with the giant matchbox is try-hard and deeply annoying.

Can't remember anything else. Bread week is often not that exciting IMO.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/08/2013 12:16

Ruby's peacock bread and octopus bread, I mean just obsessed with cake

Forgetfulmog · 30/08/2013 13:32

Maybe I'm being over generous, but I actually thought the show stopper breads were pretty good. I'm a fairly good baker & I'm not sure I could have done anything like what was produced.

I do agree though about Matchstick Girl, she's getting on my tits or maybe I'm just envious of her ideas

Someone up thread asked about the oven gloves. They were supplied by a company called Ochre & Ocre which is owned by a good friend of mine. I spotted the green ones in the first week and wondered if they were hers and then saw the logo on the yellow ones this week. She had to sign something to say she wouldn't tell anyone.

The peacock bread and octopus bread weren't the greatest representations of these creatures, but at least they went for it and did something complex - rather than a cob loaf with some tomatoes on top. I don't understand why none of Lucy's friends and family told her that that was NOT a showstopper bake, even if she thought it did.

coffeeinbed · 01/09/2013 19:50

Watching the repeat.
Kimberley was robbed.

twistedtoffee · 02/09/2013 13:40

I think Ruby's getting a hard time on here. She's obviously very nervous and worried about the bad start she got off to in week one; but she doesn't come across as particularly glum or whiney to me.

Forgetfulmog · 02/09/2013 19:52

So what's the bake tomorrow, Petit Fours or something? Not sure I can knock some of those up with an 11 mo in tow!

PumpUpMyVolume · 02/09/2013 22:02

Another one agreeing should've been Kimberly's week!

I cannot stand bloody quirky woman (Frances?) - those matches annoyed the crap out of me... although so did the sandwich cake so haven't liked her from the off!

Loving it - and no DCs tomorrow night so can actually watch, guilt free from not forcing an early night on them Grin Might even bake something!!

Fakebook · 03/09/2013 07:51

I think the teacher is going out today. He's annoying.

I've noticed there's a lot of cocky contestants this year. Past contestants were so much more humble. Like Brendan was very quirky too but he came across nicely, unlike matchstick woman.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/09/2013 09:13

Petit (petits?) fours, iles flottants and trifle. Mmmmmmmmm, trifle...

PumpUpMyVolume · 03/09/2013 11:18

On the trifle - how is that a baking challenge? is it the making of the spongey bits for in the jelly?

There are sooooo many things out there to bake.. odd choice!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/09/2013 11:57

Trifle does sound a trifle odd, yes. Not a lot of baking involved - even if they bake the sponge-y bits, that is not a whole lot of very technical baking, is it? And Iles Flottantes are poached not baked, too - so that is not a very bake-y challenge, is it?

Ah well - I will still be able to enjoy Mel and Sue (who really need to be my best friends), and lusting after all the lovely baking equipment.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/09/2013 14:54

They have to 'bake' the custard as well as the sponge, presumably; similar to making them cook creme anglaise and creme patissiere. Same for iles flottantes, I imagine. Although I'm rather hazy on what iles flottantes actually are.

As for jelly, there ain't none in a classic trifle recipe, I believe.

ViviPru · 03/09/2013 15:30

Mel and Sue (who really need to be my best friends)

I actually feel a deep sadness at the reality that Mel and Sue will probably never be my friends Sad.

Super excited about tonight - desserts are my thing. Meep!

Lizzabadger · 03/09/2013 18:04

So excited about desserts week. Kimberley to win!!!

Forgetfulmog · 03/09/2013 18:54

Aww see now I'm gutted I haven't made a dessert for tonight as I'm going to be drooling all over the TV Grin

PumpUpMyVolume · 03/09/2013 20:03

ooh - double elimination?? burglary!! Bloody love the Bake Off, they make something that is probably innocuous into scandal!
