Very excited!

Paul Hollywood does piss me off tbh, but I love seeing all the cakes & stuff. Will probably have to make something to eat whilst watching it though...

Poor Kimberley. She really deserved star baker. I think she's going to win and I love her smile. I also love Ali, especially when he was singing the rap song. Adorable.

I don't like the guy who was slapping his bread, I can't stand the army wife at all and I really don't like matchstick woman. Her novelty jam sarnie was great but is she going to do novelty bakes every single week? I hope not. The octopus l

Paul seemed really over the top smiley today. I can't watch without saying 'horrible man' at the tv. I've become a little miss judgey pants.

nocarsgo · 27/08/2013 23:03

Yeah, not keen on Frances and her gimmicky stuff. Her "jam sandwich" cake was just a Victoria sponge in a silly mould (I have said mould, it's called a Cakewich and I've never got around to using it!). Silly props shouldn't be allowed really, it's just showing off Grin

Fakebook · 27/08/2013 23:08

I was in fits of laughter at the elbow incident. "I've elbowed your muffin" hahaha!

Also, Francis is annoying with her perfect little matches and whacky ideas.

That tomato bread was just crap.

Still18atheart · 27/08/2013 23:15

Think Lucy deserved to go! Paul was rather scathing about her showstopper. But when the vine tomato decoration is bigger than the actual cake...

Really don't like dough slapping man I wonder if Christian Grey was taking notes??

I really like Ruby perhaps she got starbaker because of last week she was terrible and this week she was miles and miles better.

I think Army Wife might start to make my teeth itch before long.

Bakingnovice · 27/08/2013 23:23

Army wife was particularly annoying at the end when she said 'next week i will be back to my....self'. You could just tell what she really really almost said was 'back to my brilliant wonderful best baker ever self' but she held back.

Forgetfulmog · 28/08/2013 05:57

What got me was that some of them
had never heard of a bakestone or griddle plate. Surely if you're as good a baker as they profess to be you'd have heard of one of those methods of cooking?

I'm irritated by both army wife and matchstick lady and I'm still struggling to tell them apart.
Like Kimberley a lot and I'm warming to Ruby.
Rob's octopus reminded me of the birthday cakes I make for the dc, I start full of ambition and the end result is a lot less grand than what I pictured.

WingDefence · 28/08/2013 07:19

Yes BMW, when Mel was announcing the winner, didn't she starry it with 'the person with the best muffins' (or something), which I immediately thought must be Kimberley...? Robbed.

WingDefence · 28/08/2013 07:20

*start

wintera · 28/08/2013 07:22

Kimberly did deserve star baker definitely. But, I am thinking Ruby's show stopper must have tasted fab just because of Sue's reaction when she was saying 'please don't take that away from me!'

nocarsgo · 28/08/2013 08:26

It was Ali who didn't know what a hot plate was. I like him, and was pleased he did well this week, but I'm convinced he won't be around long. He doesn't seem to have much knowledge or experience. I think petit fours will finish him off.

Speaking of which, they've changed the running order haven't they? Macarons and petit fours usually come later, and they get they "homely" stuff like cakes, bread, pastry during the early weeks.

Gracelo · 28/08/2013 08:35

petit fours would finish me off too. I think you might be right about Ali nocars sadly.

LovesBeingOnHoliday · 28/08/2013 09:12

The chocolate was inside tge bread also, Paul said by doing it by hand it meant she kept some little lumps of chic that ran tgrough tge bread.

Pachacuti · 28/08/2013 09:17

I don't think Paul was surprised that Ruby kneaded it by hand, because he makes his by hand and doesn't like using mixers/processors (he has this banter thing going with Mary about it on the GBBO masterclass programmes and I think it comes up in his book too). He seemed to be impressed/surprised by the particular effect she'd managed to create.

Bakingnovice · 28/08/2013 09:42

Oh c'mon we all know Paul fancies ruby. He's loved everything she's done. And who can blame him, she's stunning. Her bread sounded awful though. Bread with chunks of choc - no thanks.

ViviPru · 28/08/2013 09:51

Ruby's got a lovely face but she's not got a great deal of charisma has she? I thought the peacock and the coloured elements in particular looked rather juvenile.

I think her star baker crown was ostensibly tactical from a production POV, as others have said, they probably decided on balance that she would have more to gain confidence-wise if she won it, whereas Kimberley (the rightful star IMO) would take it as a challenge and it would spur her on to fight harder and improve even more. I really like Kimberley. She is interesting and methodical and seems like a genuine person to boot.

Frances is teetering on the edge for me, Her quirky creations are the kind of thing I would like to think I would dream up, but I do wonder if it's going to wear thin after a while... Beca is starting to grate....

nocarsgo · 28/08/2013 10:00

No, Ruby's personality doesn't match her looks, she's so deadpan and monotonous!

If this was a decision by the production company, then that's a shame because the whole programme would at risk of becoming more about drama than being good at baking. That would be a shame.

BatmanLovesAllan · 28/08/2013 10:13

Frances gets right on my tits. I think partly I'm jealous of her ideas, but she is really really REALLY grating on me. "Look how quirky and clever I am"...

I like Ruby and Kimberley best. And teacher man, and the scientist man.

ViviPru · 28/08/2013 11:35

Maybe the decision came from Paul and Mazza, rather than production, but either way, it seems not to be entirely based on who was out-and-out the best on the day...

Pachacuti · 28/08/2013 12:10

But the programme-makers have at least 15-20 hours of footage from the weekend, plus spots on the contestants' backgrounds and the Historical Bit. They can edit that together to make the show look almost however they want -- to make any particular contest look closer than it is, or to make any individual contestant look more or less competent according to the story they've decided they want to tell.

Obviously we all (me as much as anyone) enjoy picking it to bits and arguing that the judges got things wrong, but we're basing it on very incomplete information.

ViviPru · 28/08/2013 12:13

Yes, Pachacuti it was blatantly obvious the footage was heavily leaning toward depicting that Kimberley 'was robbed' - probably to pique everyone's interest and emotional investment...

wintera · 28/08/2013 13:44

I agree, I'm sure when Ruby was crowned the star baker, the camera briefly went to Kimberly for a min. They know what they are doing, crafty buggers. Just trying to wind us up! I thought army wife woman was very snippy last night, am sure at one point she was a bit snotty with MelorSue as well, which is just not on! Teacherman is lovely and has a really nice way about him. Bet he's a great teacher!

Dancergirl · 28/08/2013 21:42

Yes looks a bit like a child's 'novelty' birthday cake. I was also surprised about Kimberley not getting star baker.

Yonionekanobe · 28/08/2013 21:56

Just caught up. That peacock is crazy ugly.

Is Becka a MNer. Scarves may be building up to the scarf?
