I am so excited!

DH takes over all catering for this fortnight (he does it at other times too) so I can plump my cushions, grab the handchange & get watching.

I'd like to be saying who I was putting my money on to win - but I really can't decide between Rafa, Federer Djokovitch & Murray.

I'd just say that it will be one of them and, sadly, I'd put Andy in last place.

Two weeks of tennis coming up!!

Bring it on. Wine (pimms) & Grin

Looking forward to today, think everyone is gonna be thinking they can really beat the big names now, hopefully will make for some exciting matches Grin

Have been watching in between work & kids - wow, what a tournament!

I've always appreciated Fed's tennis - he is a great player - but personality-wise something about him always left me cold. There was always an edge there, if he felt he wasn't getting his due respect iykwim and he has been quite disparaging about other players, so when he slammed that ball at his opponent's head yesterday I was not surprised. Whereas Rafa, Andy and to an extent Djoko all seem a lot more humble as well as being great players.

So while I'm not crying over Fed, I was sad to see Rafa go the other day - BUT I have been delighted to see some old-style creative play, and it's great to have some new names in the mix; it makes it all a bit more unpredictable and exciting!

I would love Murray to win it, because he works hard and I think he deserves it, but who knows what will happen this year!

Trouble is though, the 'giant killers' rarely get much further, they crash unceremoniously in the next round. But Brown and Stakhovsky yesterday played a different game, that isn't seen so much- they may stun some others. Until they meet each other, that is!

I was particularly impressed with Stakhovsky yesterday- Federer didn't play badly, but he isn't used to playing people who go to the net so often. So long as the media give Sergiiy the credit for a great match, and don't put Fed's loss down to just his age. Dustin was a revelation- but Hewitt played a terrible match compared to Monday, his serve was useless.

Maybe we need some rain delays, to calm downGrin

Wednesday ORDER OF PLAY

Some good stuff should be on today- but rain delays might make it tricky to get them finished. So, doubtful we will see Laura Robson today. And Ferrer is last up on number 1, which doesn't have a roofSad

teejwood · 27/06/2013 10:50

Raahh I agree with you that is normally the case, but Brown and Stakhovsky are playing their own game and so could do really well. There was a looping overhead that Stakhovsky played quite early on that made me think, bloody hell, that's a lovely bit of tennis. I was really impressed (but then I fondly remember watching Borg et al in the 70's !)

One of the things commentators have always said about Andy Murray is that he needs to play his own game and not get sucked into playing his opponent's game in order to win these finals. Stakhovsky delivered a masterclass in that, yesterday.

I think we need some kind of awning over the whole club frankly.

Raahh · 27/06/2013 10:53

I am also really confused today- as the older dcs are off due to strike action.

Haven't got a clue what day it is!

Raahh · 27/06/2013 10:58

teej- it was great to see real 'old school' stuff- even the commentators couldn't help going on about it.

TapselteerieO · 27/06/2013 11:02

Xmas Smile to counter the blue faces - though I very rarely use emoticons, so I think just because there are blue faces doesn't mean lots of us are not excited and happy about the tennis.

I will be cheering Andy all the way, and I am really excited about seeing all the fresh players who have a different style of playing than the top seeds - I do get bored seeing the same faces all the time.

TapselteerieO · 27/06/2013 11:04

See why I don't use them I obviously can't get them to work! 😃

Raahh · 27/06/2013 11:10

you don't need the 'f' when it's not Christmas Grin

BBMs · 27/06/2013 11:20

Alibabaandthe40nappies I was really excited that I would finally get to watch the big names play at Wimbledon for the first time! (Previously had been working every tournament and had to watch highlights) it seems just bad luck that now that I finally have the time, all the guys/girls I wanted to see, have gone home first or second round.
Don't really understand what's with all the interest in Brown, not really good looking IMO...

TapselteerieO · 27/06/2013 11:28

BBMS but it was an exciting game.

BBMs · 27/06/2013 11:35

Interesting to watch for sure! I almost needed a cardiac unit... :)
I don't really like Federer, I just didn't want to big names to go out so soon ...

FreedomOfTheTess · 27/06/2013 11:36

I really don't want Serena Williams to win, I just don't like her attitude.

I've always liked Venus, she doesn't have the attitude that Serena does.

BBMs · 27/06/2013 11:37

Today my favourites are: Djokovic, Robson, Ferrer and Del Potro :) :) :)

BBMs · 27/06/2013 12:14

Simona Halep is the first one to call in the doctors today...

FarleyD · 27/06/2013 13:20

Afternoon all. Anyone watching my man - Del Potato?

Tennis look-a-likes: (in my very short-sighted eyes)

Cilic - Kevin from Corrie
Fed - my brother
Dimitrov - dd's boyfriend
Del Pot - Dh about 30 years ago

I realise that not many of you will be able to concur or disagree with me (unless, of course, you happen to know my brother, dd's boyfriend and dh thirty years ago) Smile

DevlinMaccabee · 27/06/2013 13:21

I,like Serena but think its a bit mean that the commentators just called Caroline Garcia a "Sacrificial Lamb", I hope she gives Serena a run for her money now.

Mama1980 · 27/06/2013 13:30

Ideally hope Garcia at least makes a fight of this especially after that comment!

Raahh · 27/06/2013 13:38

I am watching Berdych- didn't realise Del Potato was playing. Berdych playing Brands, who gave Nadal trouble in the first round of the French.

FarleyD · 27/06/2013 13:44

Del Potato is playing Jesse Levine (who I want to call Simon Levine for some reason). Just won first set. How's Berdych doing?

Raahh · 27/06/2013 13:49

just got to a tie break in the first set!

FarleyD · 27/06/2013 13:53

I've hit on a cunning plan - do you think I can disguise myself as a ball girl? I would happily handle Del Potato's balls. I may be a leeetle too old but worth a try, no?

Raahh · 27/06/2013 14:00

Farley - sounds like a cunning plan indeedGrin

TennisTennis

First set to Berdych

FarleyD · 27/06/2013 14:04

I'll need to work on my fitness a bit, but where there's a will ...

Del Potato losing 4-1 in second set.
