Just read that Matt Smith will be leaving Dr.Who at the end of the Christmas episode this year.

When he was announced as the new Dr, I had never heard of him and was a little unsure about what to expect. For me, he has turned out to be one of the best Doctors - and I speak as someone who was watching from around 1966 onwards and who has missed very few, if any, episodes since then.

So now the speculation will begin about who will take over the role.Over to you ladies, who do you think should be the next Doctor?

Adrian Lester

Excellent news!

I don't like him as the Doctor. He gabbles his lines and I lose interest in the story because I can't follow what he is saying. I don't care who replaces him as long as it is someone who is articulate and doens't gabble at 90 miles an hour.

I would love it if River Sing could somehow be the next Doctor. She is fab. Would definitely get rid of Clara though. She makes my teeth itch

xigris · 02/06/2013 18:07

That would be Song! damn iPhone Blush

marjproops · 02/06/2013 18:12

Joseph Mawle -he looks like an ood!

Figgygal · 02/06/2013 18:15

I'm gutted I love him as the dr he is a great actor and when it's highly or subtley emotional scenes I think he's marvellous. I'd rather they dumped the writers as he's not had storylines on par with DT and this last season has been particularly poor. The 1 exception was that i never got him and river song until the last episode when he was telling her she was always with him Hmm

I hope they go for someone mid 30s this time though cant say why.

I've never heard of half these people you are all mentioning Blush. I like Matt Smith, as Jbck said he's the reason I've carried on watching, and I never thought when he started that I'd be saying that!

How about a female doctor? Or a black doctor? Or a disabled doctor? You know, something different than the usual white male.

I won't bother watching any more if the PC brigade get their hands on the Doctor. Sorry, but the character is 'the usual white male' and that's it . No one's stopping someone else writing their own scifi series about a female black time traveller with a false leg, (and I would probably watch it,) but honestly, does everything have to be 'modernised'? Even when it quite obviously works as it is?

(disclaimer-I am in a very grumpy mood due to putting up with selfish gits noisy neighbours all day).

There's a FB post suggesting Emma Watson for the role. now There's an interesting thought....

picnicbasketcase · 03/06/2013 17:40

I agree wholeheartedly Pixel. There is no reason at all why the next actor 'should' be anything other than the best actor for the role.

Jux · 03/06/2013 17:46

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Much the best Dr of recent incarnations.

Jux · 03/06/2013 17:52

If RS becomes the Dr can she/he spontaneously combust after the first series? Then I'll skip that series and never have to see her again.

After that we could have an actor who can act.

GlaikitFizzog · 03/06/2013 18:23

Dh tells me the bookies fav is Ben Daniels of cutting it fame [pouty face]

I want matt to stay

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 03/06/2013 18:34

Oh Ben Daniels brings me over all unnecessary. And I don't do blonds usually. But when he is all stompy and supportive of the victims on law and order he is lush.

I'd have done him on Cutting It as well.

I hope it is him.

Emma Watson?!!!!! Dear Christ.

GColdtimer · 03/06/2013 18:34

Rory Kinnear favourite accotding to the [http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/who-new-doctor-who-rory-1928254 Mirror]]. Mind you they had [Rupert Grint and Russell Tovey joint favourites in an earlier article. David Harewood also has been suggested. He would be great.

GColdtimer · 03/06/2013 18:35

Sorry, on phone try again www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/who-new-doctor-who-rory-1928254

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 03/06/2013 19:14

Oh bollocks

And again

That was embarrassing Blush

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/06/2013 19:29

Ooh Jason Isaacs (mmmmmmmmmmmmm) I don't mind if he's blonde or brunette TBH

But I want David Morrissey to be the New Doctor.
DH says he can't because he was the 'other doctor' in a Christmas Episode and it would scupper the time and space consortium blahblahblah

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/06/2013 19:32

And FWIW I always preferred MS to DT.
His running about wide eyed with his mouth open grated on me just a tad.
Though DS and DH preferred David T Hmm

navada · 03/06/2013 19:33

Op: Couldn't agree more. He's amazing.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/06/2013 19:43

Good that MS is going, I might be able to watch it again.

The Dr needs to be older and with more gravitas - Jason Isaacs would do very nicely, or Alan Rickman.

Aethelfleda · 03/06/2013 19:54

Ooh yes, Alan Rickman would be great. Or Jean Reno.
( affects terrible french accent): "All planets ze 'Ave A France"......

Plus3 · 03/06/2013 22:18

I loved Matt Smith as The Doctor - epitome of the madman in a box. I was another one who didn't think they could beat David Tennant, but actually Matt exceeded in the role. My DC adored his Doctor, and do you know? Bow ties are cool.

notyummy · 03/06/2013 22:57

I have heard Chetewel Ejetfor (sp...?!) mentioned and I like him. Or Oliva Coleman. She could pull it off.
