Last weeks break proper pissed me off, but is anyone else nervous about this weeks episode? Edmure's wedding is so huge in the books, and the penultimate episode has always been the big one, I know I will cry.

I can't believe I am posting on a telly addicts forum, as I watch very little TV. But I absolutely love Game of Thrones, no-one I know watches it and I just had to say OMG, I wasn't expecting that. I must admit, I was expecting something, because a leader can't keep making very bad decisions without some fall-out, but I didn't anticipate them all to be wiped out.

I have my fingers in my ears about the continuing story re Cat Grin.

I wonder why we are all rooting for the Starks, as the goodies, rather than for the Lannisters? OK, Joffrey is evil (played brilliantly by the young actor - wonder how it will affect the rest of his career), but the others are victims too - and the Lannister youngsters hardly feature at all.

I have bought the boxed set of books, but I am waiting until the end of this season before I make a start.

Shock

I watched last night and I'm still in shock from it. I haven't read that far in the books yet and DP was delighting in my reaction as he has read the books and knew what was coming.

I was on set for some of the filming of this episode (not the RW scene though) and still had no fucking clue that was coming. I knew something big would happen as it always does in the penultimate episode of the season but couldn't predict that at all.

Still reeling from the massacre (Rob's wife's demise was so upsetting) & I too knew it was coming.
Especially with all the humour before hand. Those tricksy writers were so mean but brilliant. A perfect example of the unpredictability of this show...

Poor Arya.

So shocking...DP and I had no clue as we are both not very far along in the books. I kept saying to DP "something's going to happen," but had no idea it was going to be that intense!

Still feel shocked this morning.

Yes, Edmure and the Blackfish survive. Edmure is hostage of the Freys. Lady Stoneheart goes around with her band hanging Freys, baking them in pies, and otherwise slaughtering them.

I didn't see the whole episode (in France grrr) but I watched the big scene on YouTube. Holy fucking shit. I was wondering how they could make it as awful as in the books but good lord, that was so messed up.

I think they killed Talisa knowing that all the book fans would be thinking they knew what was coming, as a way to shock them as well.

Now I have Rains of Castamere in my head all day. Not pleasant!

This is quite amusing though:

Yup!

Holy shit Shock I've been reading the books and have just finished number 2 but have also watched all the series. It is amazing. My mouth dropped open last night. Poor Stark children. I am wraking my brains as to how it all might turn out but so far all I've got is that Daenyris will win out? Or maybe all the women will end up on top (except Cerscei cos I loathe her). I am going to try and read the 3rd book before the last episode next week:)

Can I just join in with the OMG!!! I haven't read the books either so had no idea that was going to happen. I now need to read the books because I can't wait for them to film another series before I find out what happens.

I can't stop thinking about it Sad I don't think my brain could absorb the books though. Are they really difficult.

Lighthouse, no I dont think they are really difficult. I found it a bit challenging when reading a new point of view, book 4 was hard going for me because of that.
Otherwise, they are a long slog but well worth it.

Yes, book four is the toughest, its pretty bleak and focuses on the iron islands, iirc.

Someone hold me.... brutal... so brutal.... goes off and cries for a week

Report
expatinscotland · 04/06/2013 18:00

Brutal? Have they featured Euron Greyjoy yet? He took over a man's castle, ordered the man's wife and his daughters to strip naked and serve him and his men and then they were all raped.

Has Daenerys taken Meereen yet? A child slave was executed and posted with one arm up to show her the way, 167 of them. When she takes the city she executed 167 of the city's rulers.

I am glad its not just me who struggled with book 4, I really had to push myself to get through it and I probably missed lots. Will have to give it another go.

It is awful expat the stories of Kiera and the other poor women / girls that were tortured by the Bastard of Bolton really stay with me.

Expat, no not yet. It was brutal, I know there's worse to come, but it was really horrible to see it bought to life like that.

Actually, the RW is a turning point, if only because that's it, all bets are off. Anyone can and will be slaughtered, noone is safe. Its like being finding out that santa, the tooth fairy and easter bunny don't exist, but the boogey man does.

They left out a lot of the horrible things mentioned by the man who sold Daenerys the Unsullied as well, what goes on in the so-called fighting pits especially. Missandei in the book is an 11-year-old child, 3 of her brothers were enslaved to become Unsullied, Sansa is 12 when married to Tyrion, Alyse Karstark was about to be forced to be married to a half-uncle when she ran away to the Wall, both Daenrys's surviving handmaids were regularly raped by men in Khal Drogo's khalasar, on and on.

Every episode has made me wonder whether I should read the books... I started book 1 after the first series, but I found it difficult because I had already the tv characters in place of the ones I would usually picture in my head. Think I will give it another go, because I desperately want to read the stuff going on in people's heads!

That and the fact I need more JaimexBrienne... swoon

Report
expatinscotland · 04/06/2013 18:21

Both Brienne and Tyrion are FAR less attractive in the books. Wink

Yep, robb and jon were 15 and dany was 13. When khal drogo dies, his khalassar rape all the "lamb" girls.

You're welcome Arty Smile

I think Book 3 is the worst. you've got red wedding, purple wedding, Oberyn vs the Mountain (that ending!) it's just a whole bunch of no no no no aiiiiiii.....

Although Ramsay is a sick fuck and that whole storyline is just so wrong

Report
PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 18:29

Yes they have left out a lot of the horrible things especially the things that happen to the "common folk" or those that are not main characters.

Its worth another go, katykuns The first series pretty much follows the book, goes off a bit in series 2.

I started reading after watching the series so Tyrion will always be Peter Dinklage to me, like expat says though he is not meant to be as good looking in the books.
