Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

I think the necklace was mentioned last night when they decided not to release some of the details (eg washing) for fear of copycats.

He has to go ahead, his compulsion is becoming ever greater, particularly now that his previous victim is 'spoiled' in his eyes (remember him ripping out her pages in the scrapbook).

BOW: wannabe criminal profiler Grin

gazzalw · 28/05/2013 14:06

Think we've all been watching too many episodes of Criminal Minds and CSI!!! Wink

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 14:10

:)

Smile I thought he only used the calling in to check on his clients as an excuse when approached by the "boys". I'm assuming that random check in visits wouldn't be appropriate in his line of work. He already knew the dad was involved with local hardmen, so thought his name would get him out of a tight spot.

wigglesrock = watched too much tv hack Smile

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 14:11

x posted with gazzalw - now coincidence or something more Smile

The "witnesses" that place him a few streets away are unlikely to be talking to police.

I didnt think the officer saying about the condoms was blackmail at all. I thought it was her way of telling GA that she knew the dead officer had been in her bed, so that GA would confide in her if she was upset. But ofcourse GA wouldnt do that. So made her the assistant instead.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/05/2013 14:45

"Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow"

That was the quote written in his book. Its a TS Elliot quote. So could explain why its called The Fall. The fall of the shadow of death on these women between his idea of how to kill them, and it actually happening.

gazzalw · 28/05/2013 14:46

Do you think GA and JD characters are flip sides of the psychopathic coin then?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/05/2013 14:52

To say they are flip sides of a coin suggests to me two extremes.

But I dont think they are that far apart. Both quite cold, expressionless. Both sexual predators in different ways. Both intelligent. Two people who are actually quite similar.

wintera · 28/05/2013 14:53

The Jewish thing came from when the hard man grieving dad who he is a grief councillor to asked him something like 'what kind of a name is Spektor?' and the killer replied 'its Jewish'. Likewise when he came banging on his house door in last night's ep he called him 'a Jew boy'. I can only think that it will get wrapped up quicker if, like others have suggested, the wife or her mum spot the necklace on the photos of Sarah. And if the babysitter sees something in the news about the lock of hair too. Then they would be given his name twice so would follow it up quicker.

wintera · 28/05/2013 14:56

Have you all seen the original trailer for the show where it changes perspective on who is stalking who? Its really good, I'll try and find it now somewhere.

wintera · 28/05/2013 15:02

Here it is

gazzalw · 28/05/2013 15:05

No I really meant that she is someone operating within the law and he outwith it.... perhaps my analogy was wrong???!

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 15:14

wintera the trailer is what made me watch it. I usually avoid stuff set here like the plague and would you believe before this I was a bit meh about Gillian Anderson

gazzalw · 28/05/2013 15:16

I think she's fast becoming a national treasure and more than an honorary Brit Wink!

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/05/2013 16:04

Yes gazzalw. Inside and outside the law was what I was thinking too. But psychologically quite similar.

yesbutnobut · 28/05/2013 17:22

Could I ask why Spector was driving around the streets and ended up at the house of the woman whose son had died? I couldn't work out if he'd meant to go to her house or if he just ended up there when challenged by those hard men (ie just made an excuse to go there)? Like wigglesrock I thought he just did a detour there (with devastating results) but why was he driving round there anyway - he looked purposeful.

horseonabeach · 28/05/2013 17:24

The Fall twitter account did a Q&A last night. www.twitter.com/thefallTV We need to get on there next week! Smile

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 17:25

yesbutnobut Was not scoping out his latest victims house (the one getting the work done).

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 17:26

Sorry that makes no sense! Annie, his latest victim lived nearby - he was having a recee

guineapiglet · 28/05/2013 17:28

I studied Eliot's poem 'The Hollow Men' ahem, too long ago to mention, the quote is from there, but, going back to my ancient notes, it is actually a quote from Brutus in Julius Caesar, so the whole theme of this verse is about the choices we make - the shadow/fall being a choice between salvation and damnation... all based on the choices we make in between thinking of an idea and carrying it out, if that makes sense. . The next line on is 'For thine is the glory' - and basically in a nutshell the poem is about death and possible destruction and how our choices determine which way we fall..... maybe that is the Fall....... I am convinced there is some overall religious motive for his choices, back to the idea of the fallen Madonna?? good stuff eh!

yesbutnobut · 28/05/2013 17:30

Thanks, that makes sense. He's getting a bit careless isn't he, leaving a trail of his whereabouts like that?

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 17:34

That's what I think. You have the local eejits, the husband and wife he's counselling all knowing he's 1 minute drive away from his prospective latest victims house.

wintera · 28/05/2013 17:53

Yeah but the husband thinks he is sniffing round his wife so won't suspect him of anything like the murders and like someone else said, those local hard knocks aren't likely to go to the police either. His biggest threat has got to be from his own family and the babysitter. Unless for some reason the next murder goes wrong.

I thought the creepiest bit was when Annie came to her room and spotted her cup of tea was missing. Then when he was leaving he left it outside on a work bench or something. Little things to unnerve her, very effective!

yesbutnobut · 28/05/2013 18:23

Sooo creepy that scene with Annie. Do you think she'll notice her bows are missing? Must say Jamie Dornan is brilliant in the 'menacing' role. But in the 'happy family' scenes I don't find him that convincing - he always seems so distracted and grumpy. It seemed deliberately cruel leaving the daughter outside the isolated house with her crying for him.
