So excited. We're we starting to see cracks in the marriage last season? I hope we see more of Betty this time.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the poster who linked Tom and Lorenzo's blog. I stayed up late last night devouring that.

I am only on series 3 - I started watching it very recently. I thoroughly disliked it at first Blush, didn't like anyone in it and thought it was too slow a burn. But then Betty shot her neighbour's pigeons - that was such a wonderful episode I was addicted from then on.

I just need time to watch all these box sets I have bought Grin. I like to devour them rather than watch one a week or so so need a free weekend to catch up.

I love it. It is so wonderfully clever, and I like the fact that everyone has facets rather than just being a good person or a bad person.

The acting is brilliant. Especially January Jones.

Such wonderful female peripheral characters as well, Bobbie Barrett, Rachel Menken.

And to my utter shame and disgust I have a massive crush on John Slattery (lucky Talia Balsam Grin)

That was me Gerrof I hope it makes up for the fact that I inadvertently posted spoilers on your original thread when you first started watching a few weeks back...
Watching them back to back is a joy and I think you discover more from each episode cos everything is fresh in your mind.
Tom and Lorenzo are fab - I especially like their dissection of Joan's moods according to her dresses. They have this theory about her wearing big flower prints when life changes or momentous occasions happen for her.
Season 3? So Lane has arrived has he? He's great - his character really picks up.

Gerrof · 15/04/2013 18:42

Yes, don't worry about the spoilers, I went and had a look when I first started watching it and found out everything which was going to happen. Yes re Joan's dresses, bright red roses for when things were going well(ish) in her marriage, wilting roses when it was crap, brown dead roses when she was unhappy. And then a different wardrobe to denote her renaissance.

I do love Jared Harris so was pleased when he was in it. There are some deeply wonderful bits, like when Betty comes down the stairs of the hotel to meet Don, Pete and Trudy do the Charleston, Don making Roger throw up as a revenge. Loads of it.

Thought I'd share this recap with you - if Madmen took place entirely on facebook.

I was amused!

MrsSlocombesPussy · 15/04/2013 19:01

Sorry didn't do the link properly:

IdaBlankenship · 15/04/2013 19:51

Oh I like that! They also have Game of Thrones on it too!

kneedeepindaisies · 16/04/2013 13:59

Must stop myself reading spoilers for this weeks episode. It's so tempting.

SorrelForbes · 16/04/2013 22:10

DH ended up watching the last two episodes of S5 last week (I was desperately trying to catch up before S6 started!) and is now hooked. He decided he wanted to watch S1 episode 1 to see if he'd like to watch it properly and I couldn't help but watch with him.

Crikey, the look has changed rather a lot over 5 series. It really reinforced for me how much time and attention to detail goes into this programme.

IdaBlankenship · 16/04/2013 22:14

knee don't do it! You can't unknow it!
Sorrel I agree, the production values are amazing. Does this mean you and DH are settling down with the boxset this week?

SorrelForbes · 16/04/2013 22:16

Well, he's away now until Thursday but he's vowed to try and cram in as many eps as possible between then and Sunday! I may waft around this weekend in a little shift dress and boots.

Lurleene · 16/04/2013 23:07

Lighthousekeeping - what you say about Don's style never changing made me laugh.

My dad was born in 1928 and lived in America until the 70s. He was a business man, veteran of Korea, and very handsome (if I do say so myself). Right up until he died he always wore a white t-shirt under a white shirt and suit with an overcoat and short slicked back hair. Or for casual he would wear an open shirt / sports jacket combo. It was as if he got stuck in his prime like Don.

It also means that when I look at Don it reminds me too much of my Dad- so I must be one of the few women who don't get excited by him!

Lighthousekeeping · 17/04/2013 21:42

Why on earth is it on so late?

OP posts:
kneedeepindaisies · 17/04/2013 21:56

I know! I'm yawning my head off already!

Lighthousekeeping · 17/04/2013 21:59

It's not as if its got anything in it. Apart from needing to concentrate. I hate watching it after the event!

OP posts:
IdaBlankenship · 17/04/2013 22:00

Hello all! Comfy?

kneedeepindaisies · 17/04/2013 22:07

I think Don is losing it for me. I just don't find him sexy anymore and its only 6 minutes in.

It could be the flashbacks Smile

Lighthousekeeping · 17/04/2013 22:09

I'm giving 15 mins so that I can forward the adverts.

OP posts:
IdaBlankenship · 17/04/2013 22:09

Lurleene I have a picture of your dad in my mind - very dashing! What a lovely memory.

Knee - Don is looking less and less together and sexy as time goes by - he is losing his cool for sure

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2013 22:16

Knee - Don is looking less and less together and sexy as time goes by - he is losing his cool for sure

I've never found him sexy really. I'm a Roger girl Grin

IdaBlankenship · 17/04/2013 22:21

Sorrel sacrilegious!

Lighthousekeeping · 17/04/2013 22:24

It always makes me laugh when they show couples who have supposedly just had sex with their underwear on.

OP posts:
IdaBlankenship · 17/04/2013 22:25

Joan - smack down!

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2013 22:25

IdaBlankenship What can I say? I don't do moody and magnificient. A bit of wit for me, every time Grin

kneedeepindaisies · 17/04/2013 22:26

Love Joan! She's looking fab!

kneedeepindaisies · 17/04/2013 22:27

And that Bob Benson freaks me out.
