So excited. We're we starting to see cracks in the marriage last season? I hope we see more of Betty this time.

So, it will end in 1970 then? I would've liked to have seen Sally go to college and turn all feminist still, I think it only has one more season in it after this.

Noooo I want it to go on forever

IdaBlankenship · 13/04/2013 13:22

I can't see Don wearing flares

Lighthousekeeping · 13/04/2013 15:16

He's worn the same clothes from the first season. I guess that's where the whole things going. Him unwilling to change.

I think I read that the entire series will finish with Don in 2011 so he'll be late

80's/early 90's.

What I found strange watching the other night was that Sally was born in the same year as my mum. I think her mum was as pleasant as Betty Hmm

IdaBlankenship · 13/04/2013 18:36

Imagine how dysfunctional you would turn out with Betty as a mother (not casting any aspersions at your mum Knee), I would love Sally to run off and join a commune!

kneedeepindaisies · 13/04/2013 19:31

Ha Ida! I think my mum's upbringing was definitely dysfunctional.

With parents like Don and Betty, the only way Sally can rebel is by being 'normal'.

LadyMountbatten · 13/04/2013 19:36

i SO want betty to be beautiful again

kneedeepindaisies · 13/04/2013 19:46

She looked so old at the beginning at the opera with her mother in law. I was shocked.

Lighthousekeeping · 13/04/2013 20:16

Don must wonder what happened to her.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 13/04/2013 22:50

Don happened didn't he?

IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 09:44

Remember the ep when they went to Italy, and Betty spoke Italian and looked bloody gorgeous - and now she is all matronly and really doesn't seem happy Sad. Henry must be dull as dishwater compared to dashing Don.

kneedeepindaisies · 14/04/2013 10:23

But Henry is nice! Compared to Don though he must be so boring.

Betty is only in her mid 30's. Are they saying this is what happens to the housewives of that generation? Joan is older, I think, and she looks fab!

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 14/04/2013 10:48

Oh Betty looked amazing when they were in Rome. The scene where she's sat the cafe and he comes in pretending to not know her

IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 20:15

I know Henry is nice, but I'm not sure Betty wants nice, she was already suffocating in suburbia and now she is bored in a dark and gloomy house instead. She hasn't blossomed in this relationship.
Remember when she waited around her & Don's house when they split up until he returned the key, and it was obvious she wanted him to change his mind about leaving - she would have gone back to him right up until the end if he had asked her. Maybe he'll have an affair with her now she's a brunette?

kneedeepindaisies · 14/04/2013 20:17

That would be amazing if they had an affair! I can see Betty having an affair or something like she had with the man at the stables.

I wonder if Don would go there?

IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 20:19

Don would totally do that - if only to piss Henry off! I hope so - Betty could use some excitement in her life

kneedeepindaisies · 14/04/2013 20:26

If it happened, I think I would be more excited than either of them Grin

IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 20:31

Grin It'd be like the royal wedding - we could get some bunting!

Lighthousekeeping · 14/04/2013 21:42

I can't see it from his side though.

OP posts:
LadyMountbatten · 14/04/2013 21:45

how did Don know to shag the other woman - did i miss a look or something?

Lighthousekeeping · 14/04/2013 21:50

I got the impression it was already an affair. I guess it was when he said he had to go and buy cigarettes. That was the signal. Shame, as he really seemed to like the doctor.

OP posts:
IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 21:54

Yes, it was definitely an ongoing thing. Where did Megan think he was? Also I couldn't get all enthusiastic for a shag after a fondue - blech

Lighthousekeeping · 14/04/2013 22:00

When he said he didn't want to be there the following year did he mean his whole life or, just the affair?

IdaBlankenship · 14/04/2013 22:06

The suicide symbolism around Don has been hanging around since the first season. He does seem to be having a very long existential crisis!
Maybe he thought he would feel different once the secret around his identity was disclosed (Betty, Dr Faye, Pete, Bert and Megan all know he really is Dick) but is now finding he doesn't feel lighter and unburdened? Perhaps his secretive nature and need to control how he is perceived is too highly ingrained (however the mask is slipping a bit - the old Don would never puke in public, in fact I think the only other time he has done that is with Peggy in The Suitcase which was all about revealing of true natures).

Hmm do I now get an invite to Pseuds Corner? Grin
