So excited. We're we starting to see cracks in the marriage last season? I hope we see more of Betty this time.

I think she said what do you want next year and he said I want to not be doing this.

It was a bit whispery and garbled though so I'm probably wrong!

IdaBlankenship · 11/04/2013 17:28

At the New Years Eve party, as soon as I saw the wife, I knew it would be her. He obviously likes his brunettes.
What did everyone think of Betty's Liz Taylor barnet?

clangermum · 11/04/2013 17:58

Thanks knee deep, there was another bit where I thought he mentioned Dante, which might have been to do with him reading Inferno on the beach at the start, so maybe it was her book, or maybe they didn't say Dante at all...

It's odd, in some ways the scenes can be very languid, but I find it really easy to miss bits of dialogue at the same time

clangermum · 11/04/2013 18:03

I enjoyed it but it's kind of hard work at the same time, coming back after a break. So many references to get

The shoe shine box with Roger breaking down was a good bit, but I've no idea who Giorgio (?) is/was, and end up thinking was he in this episode or am I supposed to have remembered him from before

Almost need to watch each episode twice to get all the different bits

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 11/04/2013 18:17

Georgio I don't think has been referenced before but they said Roger was the only one who asked for Georgio so they gave him the shoe shine box after he died.

Yes, in bed they talked about her lending him Dantes Inferno that he was reading at the beginning on the beach.

I love the way that Don said hardly anything in the whole two hours! It's so spare

clangermum · 11/04/2013 18:37

Betty can be a bit like that too, it's not always what she says but how she looks, though no idea what the rape conversation was supposed to be

I liked the bit when the photographer asked Don to look thoughtful, and then he actually was because he realised he'd got the wrong lighter. Couldn't work out where that bit of storyline was going on the holiday, still not sure actually unless there's more to it.

clangermum · 11/04/2013 18:40

Echo of Don taking the wrong identity on returning from war.

It's just the holiday bar scene seemed to go on forever

IdaBlankenship · 11/04/2013 19:33

There was a lot of foreshadowing of death in this episode - I hope that doesn't spell bad news for any of the main characters.
It was nice to see Peggy so professionally confident and personally content in her relationship.

clangermum · 11/04/2013 20:15

Ida - was that the secretary who died in the office? One of my favourite scenes.

Yes, Peggy seemed the only happy character last night, apart from Megan but then she's misguided

IdaBlankenship · 11/04/2013 20:33

Yes, Ida was Don's secretary, brought in to stop him shagging them. I loved it when it was revealed that Roger had actually slept with her when she was younger, and christened her the Queen of Perversions.

I think Megan is happy because she's completely narcissistic, so as long as she's getting what she wants she's OK.

BTW OrangeFootedScrubFowl congrats on the new baby!

jazzcat28 · 11/04/2013 20:33

Just watching this tonight - why is Betty so much chubbier?

kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 20:42

Apparently the rape conversation is to show us how things were viewed differently then Shock

I read on the Guardian website about there being a lot of doorways, but not sure of the relevance because I skimmed it.

Forgot about Dante and The Inferno in the bedroom talk but yes it was either her book or recommendation.

Megan was so jolly compared to Don. He was bizarre!

kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 20:44

This is the guardian link m.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/apr/11/mad-men-season-six-episode-one-two

Hope that works, I'm crap at links.

IdaBlankenship · 11/04/2013 20:44

Jazzcat she's been comfort eating, she got big last season and has been going to Weightwatchers

jazzcat28 · 11/04/2013 20:46

I must have totally missed a season then... last episode of the season I watched finished with the new Ad agency being set up from a hotel room, Betty had filed for divorce, JFK had just been shot?

jazzcat28 · 11/04/2013 20:50

Oh lord, just looked up which season I'd finished - it was season 3!!! I'm so far behind!!

kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 20:58

Jazzcat, I am slightly jealous that you have 2 brand new seasons to watch and this one. Smile

I'm tempted to watch season 4 and 5 again.

jazzcat28 · 11/04/2013 21:02

I'm sooooo tempted to order them off Amazon. More Don Draper in my life is never a bad thing. might mean not much luck TTC though

IdaBlankenship · 11/04/2013 21:08

Surely Don would get you in the mood Wink

kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 21:35

I agree with Ida. Don would definitely get me in the mood Grin

Lighthousekeeping · 11/04/2013 22:07

How peed off would you be if you had him in your bed and he didn't give you one on New Year!Grin loved it but, it was too long having two together for me.

OP posts:
kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 22:28

I'd be bloody insulted if I didn't get a shag off Don because he seems to shag everyone else!

Who do you think Don should have ended up with? Or do you think he would always be this way? I like him with Rachel. Is that her name?

Lighthousekeeping · 11/04/2013 22:36

The Jewish heiress? I did too. I thought he really was into her.

Sounds very unsisterly but, I like him when he is back to his old ways.

OP posts:
kneedeepindaisies · 11/04/2013 22:41

Yes that's her. He would have fucked her up eventually I guess.

I know what you mean about liking him bad. If he was a real person I'd be telling all women to run a mile!

IdaBlankenship · 12/04/2013 07:45

He likes independent or intelligent women like, Midge, Rachel, Dr Faye and the hippy teacher for long affairs, I think he likes to be challenged. (although he does seem to shag anything that moves as well).

He's not an indiscriminate shagger as Roger though, remember the twins from the first season - he ended up actually riding one around the office Shock
