If the Psychic is right (why didn't we see WM's character this week?) and he told Danny's Mum it was someone she knew very well, I'm sticking with plumber's mate ... for now!

PuffPants · 02/04/2013 16:39

I'm still finding the mother very odd. I cannot begin to pretend to know how one would react to losing a child, but I feel fairly sure it wouldn't be like that.

They are all clearly up to their necks in something and my guess is that Danny may have died accidentally but no-one has the guts to tell the truth because it would blow the cover on what they've been up to. Miller's son, Tom, will be the one who cracks eventually.

PuffPants · 02/04/2013 17:35

It's clearly a drugs thing, hence the cash and drugs under Danny's bag. He was making drop offs on his paper round. The phone in his delivery bag will be the one the dealers gave him, that's why Miller didn't recognise it. Remember she said he had a smartphone like Tom. I'd say Tom followed him on the night he died and that's how he knows what happened...

Jossysgiants · 02/04/2013 18:04

Ellie's sister has seen something -I wonder what. Still think it is Ollie.

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 02/04/2013 18:05

Good analogy PuffPants.

kerstina · 02/04/2013 20:58

I have been watching but thought last nights episode had slowed right down. It was not as gripping much preferred Mayday. Doesn't Dannys dad look like Everett from Mayday? Both very easy on the eye.
How many episodes are there anyway as I thought they would be wrapping it up last night?
My money is on Dannys sister not sure why but she does not seem very nice and was quick to try and frame the old bloke. It was probably an accident involving her and her boyfriend.

LittleBairn · 02/04/2013 22:04

There is 8 episodes. I too think it will be wrapped around drugs somehow.

PuffPants · 02/04/2013 22:47

I don't think the sister and her boyfriend were in it together (although maybe one of them is involved) because we have been shown plenty of scenes with them together and neither mentions it.

MurielTheActor · 03/04/2013 10:43

Loving it!
Jack fantastic character, beautifully played. I love them all. Top tv!

However.... pile of newspapers outside the newsagents showing Jack's story had The Sunday Times and The Sun. Surely everyone knows they never appeared on the same day? Hmm

LittleAbruzzenBear · 03/04/2013 15:35

Poor Jack, when he told Danny's Father, Mark, about his son's death. I knew he would commit suicide.

Still think Mark's plumber mate is iffy. He was the one who was over-enthusiastic in trying to pin it on Jack.

What was with Pauline Quirke's character, she was over keen on Tom popping round to walk her dog. So is she going to recruit him to replace Danny for drug rounds?

bigbadbarry · 03/04/2013 17:08

Muriel it said the sun on Sunday. I rewound to check because I thought the same as you :)

BaconAndAvocado · 03/04/2013 18:43

littleqvruzzenbear think you've hit the nail on the head about the Pauline Quirke character.

I know it's probably already come up on this thread, so sorry, but where is Broadchurch set? It is beautiful.

givemeaclue · 03/04/2013 19:46

Dorset. But the high st, hotel and newspaper office are in north Somerset

diddl · 03/04/2013 20:57

The whole Jack thing was awful.

So I guess he was prosecuted because of the teacher/pupil relationship, because of his age & because her father pushed for it?

And Mark wasn't prosecuted because...?

He was 17 & therefore not an adult?

So statutory rape isn't always a crime??

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2013 15:37

god , just seen the ending :(

Jack :( did he jump? had he had enough of life and wanted to be with jis wife/son :(

and yes seems many had underage sex, dannys parents, their daughter&boyfriend, but they didnt get prosecuted

tho saying that a man in late 30's having sex with a 15yr, is different from a 17yr boy having sex with a 15yr - though it shoudnt be

why didnt jack wait 4 weeks and one day till 16

pauline quirke still seems dodgy, asking young boys round to her place ........

so maybe drugs and her fault .......

I've lost interest in it might come back in for last episode to see who actually did it but not interested enough to keep with it Hmm

SESthebrave · 06/04/2013 15:13

Have been away so just caught up. DT is great. I think it's easy to take his acting for granted but I really do think he is one of the best actors in the UK. The relationship between his character and OC's comes across brilliantly.

So sad about Jack but I agree it was ashame they didn't make him 20yrs younger. DB did a great job playing him.

Ellie's sister definitely knows something key and so does her son. I'm sure in RL she wouldn't be allowed on the case as too closely connected and what was that about having Sunday lunch with the Latimers?

I also don't think any of the Latimers are behaving as if their son / brother / grandson has just been murdered.

Looking forward to Monday evening!

DuelingFanjo · 06/04/2013 23:01

I just watched all the episodes so far, here's my suspicions.

Mad lady in caravan with the dog is somehow involved with the accident that killed the old man's son or is ugly plumbers mother or ugly plumber was involved in the accident and mad old woman knows or young male reporter's dad was involved with the car crash.
Vicar has the hots for the mum of the dead boy, maybe he is even the father of her first child.
Father of dead son has very definitely been shagging around for ages not the 'just this time' he claimed.
Son of policewoman and boy who died had fallen out before policewoman's family went on holiday, possibly over the fact that dead boy knew something son of policewoman didn't about his family, ore vice versa. Possible child swap scenario?
David Tennant and policewoman are the worst investigators in the history of detectives.

Am I close?

greenhill · 07/04/2013 08:00

Although I'm enjoying the series, I feel that because the actors didn't know whodunit until the final script it means that the acting can be a little bland.

The family hardly cried after Danny's death and it has only been a week. I can understand that they are shocked and feel distanced from themselves (Danny's mother) but until Danny's father spoke passionately about wanting a change because his whole life had already been mapped out before him, I just didn't believe in him and didn't know if that was because we were supposed to view him with suspicion, or whether he wasn't a very good actor.

I think JT and OC are excellent though.

bigbadbarry · 07/04/2013 14:08

I agree greenhill, obviously know nothing abut acting but surely to be the most believable then the killer should have know who s/he was but the rest of the cast not known? That way the killer could be a bit nervous and odd, perhaps, as surely most people would be? Rather than acting all normal because he didn't know he was the killer. But what do I know,

Slainte · 08/04/2013 19:08

Is it episode 5 or 6 tonight? I'm thinking if it's episode 6 I hope that they'll start to allow the events to unfold. I really don't want them to tell us who did it in the last few minutes of the series.

LIZS · 08/04/2013 19:23

6 of 8 iirc

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2013 20:18

3hrs to go then to find out who did it, bet we dont find out till no 8

Poor Jack.
I am still unsure what I think of this.
I am irritated by David Tennant and his floppy hair, and the lack of grief displayed by the parents of the dead boy.
I am waiting to see what Pauline Quirke has to do with it all.

SESthebrave · 08/04/2013 21:22

There's too many unanswered questions...

Pauline Quirke
Sister and her boyfriend
Nigel and the crossbow
Nigel and link to Pauline Quirke
DT's previous case
Danny's supposed best friend
Danny's second phone
Ollie's mum and her big clue
Psychic
and it goes on....
