I looked on imdb but nothing rang a bell. Maybe it's an advert I know her from?

The actor who played Jack was far too old for the part, I thought. He must be over 60.

They should have got a younger actor and made the back story that he was in his 20s when he slept with his 15 year old student, not 40. Which would still have been wrong and illegal , of course, but would have seemed a bit less creepy. It would have made the character more sympathetic.

Just looked him up on IMDB and he is 70! Unless his wife and child were supposed to have died in the car crash long ago? But it seemed to have been fairly recent the way he talked about it. Doesn't seem to add up.

A very depressing episode really with all that happened to Jack ;-(. I guess it just goes to show how a witch-hunt can develop and get out of hand all on the basis of some ambitious hack's lust for the limelight.

Not liking Danny's sister at all...

I think you could be right about Ollie and/or Ellie's husband but do you think any additional clues were included last night?

And what was that rather embarrassed conversation twixt Hardy and the Hotel Owner? I was finding DT's accent quite hard to follow when the TV was on so quietly and I missed it...

I think the accident with Jack's son did happen a long time ago, because he said he moved o broadchurch after it happened. And he's certainly been there a while, as he's known Danny all his life. I felt very sad watching last nights episode. Poor jack Sad

Accident must have been 20 ish years ago . He said he was 40 when they began relationship , spent a year in jail, married and possibly had son soon after.

They found his body on the beach, presumably having jumped from the cliff. What of the boat though and SOCO Brian making a play!

My money is on Pauline Quirk, she's a shady character but then maybe it's to put us off the scent.

Ellie's husband, the kids found out something out, dad found out they found and he killed Danny. Ellie's son is to frightened to tell her or covering for his dad because he doesn't want him to go to prison.

I think Ellie's husband turning out to be the murderer would be a mistake - I hate it when it is a totally peripheral character at the last minute. Though we still have 3 (?) eps to go so if he starts looking suspicious in the next episode I will allow it :)

Bigbadbarry - I don't think that Ellies DH is a peripheral character at all.

It was a great episode, felt very sad for Jack. I love Olivia Coleman and David Tennant together.

Has the journalist been ruled out? Has he an alibi? I apologise if this has already been mentioned/cleared up on thread!

I have found it fascinating as a real warning about the vileness of the media, especially the printed media. Just shows what hell can go on behind 'stories' - why anyone would want to be 'famous'... :(

Yeah, maybe. I guess he is central in that OC is the main character but we haven't seen much of him. I think if it was him we might have seen him casually asking how the investigation was going? Rather than discouraging his son from asking.
My money is on Ollie. Maybe.
