there is a little girl in dd's class (aged 5) with selective mutism- she doesn't speak at school at all or to any of her school friends out of school either. It's odd though, she is totally integrated into the groups of friends and involved in the games. She just doesn't speak.

QE - not on msn, but could chat on a thread on mumsnet if you like? It would be great to share experiences etc. Off to bed tonight, but would like to chat soon...I think there are a couple of others with kids with SM around too.

DS would speak in the playground but as soon as he was in classroom he wouldn't speak even to his friends

And when at friends or family he wouldn't speak to them either

And then gradually he started to talk to them

Anfd now it is very rare that he won't speak to other people even strangers in strange enviroment

Glad your ds has grown out of SM. If we start a thread on Selective Mutism, will you come and reassure us that they will grow out of it, and give us advice? :)

2shoes, the mum didn't have to sleep in the kids bed, she should have marched the little lady back to her own room and got in beside her fella again!

what did you think about the kyes (sp) dad when he got told off for being to physical - do you think there was more to it they didn't show?

I love the way Tanya gets to the root of the problem.. especially tonight when the little girl I think her name was natasha..who was sleeping with her Dad!... She must have broken the record for being put back to bed!
