I think the wrong person went out last night. Poor girl, the guy they chose over her really got in by the skin of his teeth!

I think Karl was a bit deluded, thought he knew best but his plate was a mess.

I never knew claire rayner was dead, agony aunt of my childhood :(

I never knew she was jay rayners Mum.

I like jay rayner. He's not attractive though is he? My husband described him as doing the best with what he had :)

The competition is really hotting up now, it really could be anyone. I like Olli and Keri, but i think Olli's inexperience with probably get him out this week. He was close to the knuckle last night. I like Keri because its good to have at least one woman and her food looks yum!

I'm guessing his kitchen he normally works in uses French. I think he's terrified too - I would be!

Also, thus head-to-head bit seems an unfair way of whittling them down. If two strong people are together and one has to go, they could have been better than the winner of a weak pair.

Re appropriate pairings, maybe they should put the experimenters together, the classical types together, etc, then you're judging like with like. Seems fairer...

Yeah i think James will go through if he cooks like he did when he did the crab, mind you he has presented them with some real failures, remember the black elder and the dish with the pig nuts?

But Ross has failed to enter my radar at all. No idea what hebcooks like.

May be they did a draw of names to pair them up. That would be fairest at this stage.

Shame to lose Karl and Aaron but they are putting through the right people each time based on the dishes. Both of them went out with vaguely experimental dishes so I wonder if they are really looking for a classical chef this year? Will that bode well for James - didn't the critics moan about his main course for overdoing the foraging?

I've looked through a few of the Radio Times lists of the dishes the semi-finalists have cooked and couldn't find the pignuts dish so it wasn't James, Karl, Ollie or Ross. (I don't have time to look through the other four.) it might have been someone who has already gone out?

Marcus was the most terrifying chef I've ever seen on MC - I was cringing obo both contestants in his kitchen. Glad Ollie went through - he really nailed it.

Marcus Wareing scares me! I can't imagine Michel Roux Jr or Raymond Blanc being like that. I'm not talking necessarily about Marcus now, but so many British chefs swear far too much, are too shouty, big-headed and belittling. You can be passionate about what you do without being a knob. No need for it.

Ooh, just realised that tonight's episode is at Midsummer House, my best friend is taking me there in the New Year for my belated Christmas present. I have never been to a Michelin restaurant before! I want James to do well, but I like Ross too.

Are you all watching it "live"as it happens?

I'm a few episodes behind and watching it on iPlayer on my iPad and can't see what happens at the end of some of the episodes, as some of them are returning to the beginning and missing off the end e.g. An hour long episode sometimes shows the first half twice...so I can't see the judging. It is frustrating.

greenhill I watched Monday's and last night's on my iPad this morning and didn't have that problem. I'm out tonight so will either watch it late or tomorrow on my iPad again.

Probably best to delete the app and reinstall?

Marcus Warng scares me too! I was impressed that both lads coped so well under is stern, eagle-like gaze. It would have sent me gibberng out the back door!

Like Ollie and glad he got through. I missed all the shows this week except last nightt's, so have little idea who is through and who anyone is. Will google or iPlayer to catch up.

I have eaten sea urchin, many times. It is beyond delicious and Greg's a wuss!
