TV show decisions that are just WRONG - I'll start with the West Wing.

There must be loads of these. I'm sure ER is not in fact a Bible to medical correctness (say it isn't so!).

The one that bugs me is the bit the West Wing where the President breaks out into Latin. It makes me cringe. It's bad, bad Latin (IMHO).

And also - of course - the fact Toby never gets a chance to clear his name. I love Richard Schiff for explaining he played it assuming Toby was covering for someone, which is great explanation of a frustrating storyline. But I never believed Bartlett (who seems to me so good at accepting people's different points of view) would have judged him so quickly.

Is there anything that bugs you massively? Either for being factually wrong or just not fitting your sense of the characters.

The scientist, Yama? YY.

Pagwatch · 03/11/2012 18:36

Mandy was just wrong on every level.

They shold never have killed Omar in such a stupid way in The Wire. I know they wanted to defy predictable storyline but it was just disappointing.

TitWillow · 03/11/2012 18:36

LRD - theres a special???? I did not know that! I think I love you. Off to google, and hope it's on 4OD.

wintera · 03/11/2012 18:37

Ainsley - yes that's who I was thinking of!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/11/2012 18:37

Oh, you must watch it! You'll love it tw.

I'd pat him, not on the head though Wink
I liked idealistic Sam. Not just for the patting or lusting. Am a Bruno Gianelli girl at heart.

Yama · 03/11/2012 18:38

Something that's bothered me since the instance I saw it. In the film Se7en, the murderer killed people who were guilty of committing the seven deadly sins. But, he killed a prostitute because of Lust. Prostitutes don't commit the sin of lust when working do they?

I've been angry about that ever since.

HumphreyCobbler · 03/11/2012 18:39

the end of Buffy when they recruited a load of people who COULDN'T ACT to play the potentials.

yy to Toby situation

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/11/2012 18:39

Oh - I've not seen that, yama, but that is properly unpleasant and wrong. Sad I would be furious.

Yama · 03/11/2012 18:39

Yes, the scientist Sue. Hank Azaria.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/11/2012 18:40

humphrey - amen to that!

And why the heck did they get that lass who couldn't do a deep South accent, to do a deep south accent? Confused

OTOH, Nathan Fillion.

So, you know, there are good points. Grin

LRD - it's a Brad Pitt/Gwyneth Paltrow film. Was well received at the time. I've had many an argument about my objection to the prostitute killing.

wintera · 03/11/2012 18:42

Oh Christ! Buffy and the potentials. Some of the accents were shocking too.

Re - Seven, there's a load of inconsistencies in that you are quite right.

HumphreyCobbler · 03/11/2012 18:42

oh yes Grin

but they killed off Anya. I didn't think that wrong but I am still sad about it (as possibly being rather sad to think about it as much as I do)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/11/2012 18:43

It sounds like something I might give a miss, yama. I'm not keen on the latest Bond for the same reasons. Yuck.

I just thought of another one ...

House was definitely just wrong with how it treated the relationship with Cuddy, no? I know he is a portrait of a nasty, abusive man ... but I so wanted that relationship to work, and for him to realize what a cock he was being. I was so sad they went the other way and he didn't, even though I accept it made better TV and probably better feminism.

Oh, absolutely. I think it's so good she saw him for what he was (in the end!) and that they didn't compromise and have her accept him as a 'flawed good guy'.

I just had a sneaking and very unfeminist desire for him to reform and follow all those un-feminist stereotypes of suddenly turning into a good guy. Blush

Mulder and Scully. They should never of got them together. And god I wanted them together as I watched the entire series. but them together it was a bit anticlimatic.

TitWillow · 03/11/2012 18:53

Yeah but with Seven, the anger victim is Brad Pitt, but he doesn't kill him, he kills his girlfriend, and makes him live with the result. The Lust killing, he forces the man to kill the prostitute, and to then live with the result. I think it's the serial killer that is the misogynist, rather than the film, IYSWIM.

lopsided · 03/11/2012 18:53

I hate the way they change characters especially in a long running series as they need to have new storylines. See Carter turning into an arse on er and Toby being the leak.

Pag, I still think when stringer was shot on the wire was one of the most surprising things I've ever seen in a drama. Such a surprise.

I definately believed Toby was covering for someone - as it was Richard Schieff that said it, that made it "true" for me - since he was Toby.

With Barlett being so quick to condemn Toby, i thought he was feeling somewhat betrayed/abandoned already at that stage - He had lost Leo (obviously not Leo's fault), Josh had effectively left too and that definitely had left Toby feeling abandoned, even though it was obviously for practical and important reasons.

And they did lay a bit of groundwork for Toby's high morality touching on Bartlett's sore spots throughout the series, making it more likely that Barlett's anger would cloud his judgement, just because it was Toby - i mean if it were Josh or CJ it would seem even more unlikely that Barlett would believe they'd betray him (despite Toby being at least as loyal as them).

I found that part credible but Obviously wrong and I liked that Babish was pointing out how wrong it was that Toby was being treated like this/not being thanked for all his service and Toby bore Bartlett absolutely no rancour and was very knidly saying he was just very angry.

God I just love Toby though.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/11/2012 18:58

thestring - oh, I know exactly what you mean there - there are couples where you know you're meant to want them to get together but when they do it is just never as good.

Chuck for me is like that.

OTOH I always think Angel did it very sweetly with Angel and Cordelia, because I read the actress had been very unsure about her looks (I know, right?! She's beautiful), and had only come back for that. And she looked lovely and got a nice romantic storyline.
