are there (almost) never polish builders shown?

OP posts:
difficultpickle · 07/11/2012 21:56

It is the sort of building that only other architects could love.

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/11/2012 21:57

There s NOTHING personal anywhere

CotedePablo · 07/11/2012 21:57

Oh good grief! The toilet in view!

HazeltheMcWitch · 07/11/2012 21:57

Asia (sp) may have a floor, but she is NOT allowed any toys.
She has a desk, and a bunch of flowers and she ought to count herself lucky.

difficultpickle · 07/11/2012 21:59

She can see her mum and dad using the loo without having to go in to the bathroom Grin

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/11/2012 21:59

I would love to see the place after a few winters - and a few of the utility bills

OhYoubadbadKitten · 07/11/2012 22:00

Waste of space! Huge building hardly anywhere to live.

HazeltheMcWitch · 07/11/2012 22:01

But kitten, the boxes !!

See y'all next week for cow poo and yoghurt?

difficultpickle · 07/11/2012 22:01

It looks like a furniture storage warehouse rather than a home.

MousyMouse · 07/11/2012 22:02

it's just too difficult to divide large spaces without them looking like a large diy store.

OP posts:
AndIfATenTonTruck · 07/11/2012 22:04

till next week, then. just off upstairs to my 'positive space'... Grin

OhYoubadbadKitten · 08/11/2012 07:39

Is next weeks a revisit to a project?

OlaRapaceFru · 08/11/2012 07:40

OMG, I can't believe I forgot it was on. I'm going to have to watch it on catch up.

MrsMiniversCharlady · 08/11/2012 07:48

Let's just hope nobody wants to stay over after a party because there will be nowhere for them to sleep! WTF is the point of building such a ginormous house and still not having a spare bedroom???

I usually hate the people in grand designs (it's part of the fun of watching) but this pair were especially smug IMO.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/11/2012 09:43

Itsjustafleshwound - yes - my first thought was that it looked like a public library. And I commented about how noisy it would be when it rained, bisjo - great minds!

I didn't think it looked homely at all - and did those bedroom 'boxes' have any windows? I don't think I saw any, and I would hate that - no connection with the outside world at all.

I did enjoy the previous week, not as much for the house, which was a bit too modern looking outside for me, but for the location - I would love to wake up to that view every day. I thought they were a lovely couple too, and I would love to see what the house looks like in a year or two, when they have settled in and brought in things they love, as others said last week.

bruffin · 08/11/2012 09:59

Agree it looked like a library, but it was nice that they actually had books on show, made it look lived in. Most of the other builds recently have nothing at all personal about them.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/11/2012 10:02

True - I don't think I have ever seen a GD with enough storage/shelving for all my gubbins and books.

DontmindifIdo · 08/11/2012 13:00

I didn't think it was much of a family home as his studio and office was in the same room as the kitchen and living space - the little girl has her study, but I bet she has to spend her time there, you couldn't really have the TV or radio on or a play date happening while he had people working in the other part of the one room they live in. I bet it's really echoy and noisy. Never being away from the noise would bug the hell out of me.

I agree, no where near enough storage, but as you all live in one room and it's the DH's studio/work space, then you'd need to keep it clean and tidy.

I can't get over that you could be stood at the cooker watching your other half do a dump on the loo through the window. You have to have a very strong relationship to cope with that.

OlaRapaceFru · 14/11/2012 19:23

So. Today - Wed 14 Nov. I can't work out from the TV listings whether this is going to be a new one, or a repeat, or a follow on? Kevin's going to a bungalow conversion on the Isle Of Wight.

OhYoubadbadKitten · 14/11/2012 19:30

I think it's a repeat sadly.

OhYoubadbadKitten · 14/11/2012 19:30

One of those where he revisits for 10 minutes at the end.

HazeltheMcWitch · 14/11/2012 19:53

I din't think I saw it the first time round, so it'll be a good'un for me!
It's this one www.redfunnel.co.uk/my-isle-of-wight/features/house-in-the-trees-with-yoghurt/

MousyMouse · 14/11/2012 21:15

it's a revisit.
the one where they paint the walls with cow shit and yoghurt to attract lychen.

thenightsky · 14/11/2012 21:15

I've not seen this one. Looks interesting, but I fear the pair of them may get on my nerves. They seem a bit wanky.

AndIfATenTonTruck · 14/11/2012 21:15

I saw this the first time and think I liked it. Window and tile problems, as I remember.
