Downton Abbey - update required

Any big Downton fans out there who can tell me what happened in the very last episode of series 2 and also the Xmas special? Tryin to get ready for the new series on Sunday but is there anything else I missed? (apart from Lady Mary and Matthew getting together that is)

I think it is known that Thomas is gay, but certainly not spoken about in polite company lol. Its not been made public so think o'brien will get something on him when this new young footman arrives . . .

It might be an economy, but think how much face they´d lose by having to reduce staff-they have a duty to them, you know!

Thomas being gay is definitely known by most of the staff (mrs patemore told daisy in the first series that he was a troubled soul) but there's no way it's known upstairs.

I reckon Mrs Bates meant to poison bates but got it wrong and poisoned herself.

I just hope that Bates isn't going to do anything rash and end up murdering his cellmate just as Anna pieces together that Mrs Bates obviously meant to poison him but somehow poisoned herself instead!

I'm puzzled as to why Bates is being targeted in there.

Not just the stroppy cell mate...the prison guard was furious when the bed search revealed nothing so clearly a set up. he was tipped off by another prisoner so obviously there has been rumour.

I smell the spurned hand of Sir Slimy Carlisle........

Oh - I thought that sacking was a small knife that he pushed in the wall. That incident when the other guy said, 'or I'll cut you!' and then Bates pushed and squashed his face up against the wall - I was associating it with that.

I was wondering about the blocked flue and Downton going up in flames when they're all sleeping, burnt to the ground...

So disappointed with this series. Was hoping all the high drama was over, but seems not. Jilted at the altar - pah. leave that to 4 weddings. And Mary in a constant state of vexed agitation

they're going the way of Desperate Housewives - all so thin it's painful to watch. Or Mary and Cora, anyway. I held out for 2 Broke Girls and it was a relief to see a bit of flesh on whatsername. The one with the giant boobies. The (ex) rich one is thin but not painfully, ropily so.

Oh, a knife. It's a very slim one to fit in the crack in the wall. Perhaps it doubles as a nail file and Bates will hack his way to freedom behind a poster of Mary Pickford.

This was the first episode where they didn't mention how freakishly tall Alfred is and the first time I actually noticed he has some kind of growth disorder.

Matthew will be discovered to be stealing Mary's food.

I am glad that Matthew has taken the money because at least is will stop all this self-depreciating whining which was getting on my nerves.

Agree completely that Strallen would never have jilted Edith like that,but even more unlikely was Dame Mag striding forward to urge him on. In reality she would have been utterly devastated by the shame and scandal of it all!

I hate it when directors cast people who look similar to each other because I get confused. I've said before that if they're going to do that they should make them wear name badges like at a sales conference. That would work as plot device with a bit of tweaking.

I had a lot of problems with The Pacific, apart from the fact it was as boring as hell, because they all wore tin hats. I also had a lot of trouble distinguishing between the two blokes inexplicably fighting over Maggie in The Newsroom.

It's freakish from the perspective of someone who's only 5ft 3ins.
