True Love, what are we thinking?

I like it, so far. Feel like its abit like Homeland, in that the actress playing the wife looks too young.

But there have been some excellent dramas in a similar vein recently- the Justice ones, for example. So it can be done.

slartybartfast · 20/06/2012 16:48

or maybe they are all just do such lovely marvellous acting which we just missed cos we are not clever enough innit?

TheNightWatch · 20/06/2012 17:56

I dont think so, we do appreciate the art of acting which is why we are so into Revenge! Do you reckon they think they are really good at this? Im just watching now, before I go to work. I fast forwarded the music, that at the start rubs me up the wrong way. Ive never got Billie Piper, although she's not the worse thing in it, so far.

And, they could have at least had the original version of True Colours. So superior to the crappy version thats on it. Who was responsible for the music? they need punishing.

I didn't realise Paul's wife was also DT's first love's sister. And that the schoolgirl who blew the whistle is going to be Dav Morrissey's daughter by the looks of it in ep5. They did a good job of understating the beauty of Karen whilst in school, out of it she looked gorgeous.

Pan · 20/06/2012 19:43

And no-one has mentioned Jenny Agutter, the national treasure!

Pan · 20/06/2012 20:10

And I do seem to be out of step with the MN juries on most stuff - I've quite liked a lot of most of them, and the improvised thing has worked for me. Some scenes (yes incl the bar) have been a bit Hmm and if one is conducting an illicit affair in a small town one does not flaunt one's squeeze in a club or on the promenade.

wintera · 20/06/2012 20:10

I think the school girl friend who blew the whistle in last night's episode was also David Tennants daughter in the first one.

Pan · 20/06/2012 20:13

You're right wintera! Just looked, she plays Lorraine. Well spotted.

LeB0F · 20/06/2012 20:24

Yes, they are all interconnected. Apart from, weirdly, the adult sisters who appear to have come from entirely different parts of the country Hmm

What was that drama on over a few night recently about the 'have-a-go hero' and the schoolboy shooter? That was done from the perspective of different characters, and unfolded really well. This has been piss-poor though.

It simply isn't believable that, for example, a vaguely competent teacher would start chuntering on about her personal life to a pupil, invite her home etc etc. Or that a happily married bloke would just leap onto an old girlfriend after ten minutes of seeing her. Especially when they appear to have split up with barely a backward glance. And who would leave their four year old in Canada just to look up an old flame on the off-chance? Without even any correspondence beforehand? No facebook flirting, nothing, just "ooh, I'll get myself an expensive plane ticket- you never know, might be fun!"

I don't know why I'm bothering even trying to point out the flaws, tbh. There are too many of them.

Pan · 20/06/2012 20:30

I bet that all of those things have happened in RL at some stage. Just not in one small seaside town, in one summer, when they are all in some way inter-twinned.
You couldn't make it up!Grin

LeB0F · 20/06/2012 20:37

Yes, it does stretch credulity somewhat Grin

LeB0F · 20/06/2012 20:39

(And I am also perplexed by the casting and left wondering if the fine-featured Jenny Agutter is supposed to have once mated with Cro-Magnon Man to produce a child with Billie Piper's eyebrows. But that feels a bit mean.)

Pan · 20/06/2012 20:41

JA was a bit wasted, just having to say 'but darling I just want you to be happy' repeatedly. And the lips. How could Jenny have given BP those smackers?

2rebecca · 20/06/2012 21:36

So David Tennant split up with his "true love" when she went to Canada 13 years ago, and later met his current wife and had 2 kids, BUT his daughter is in the same class as a 16 year old who is having an affair with Billy Piper?
Surely script writers can do basic maths?

LST · 20/06/2012 23:06

Quite enjoying this one..

theliverpoolone · 20/06/2012 23:08

wasnt it meant to have been 17 years ago? In which case, he still didnt waste much time!

carernotasaint · 20/06/2012 23:10

Yes i thought it was 17 years as well. This one is quite good.

Horsemad · 20/06/2012 23:20

Really enjoyed the Jane Horrocks one & I love David Morrisey so hoping this one is good!

carernotasaint · 20/06/2012 23:20

Yep im a David Morrissey fan too. Been looking forward to this one.

LeB0F · 20/06/2012 23:24

I was cringing at the daughter's friend. Again, totally unlikely. And surely he would expect his own daughter to come in the car with them?

carernotasaint · 20/06/2012 23:25

I was cringing at his mysogynistic cabbie mate.

Horsemad · 20/06/2012 23:26

I thought that to LeBof.

LeB0F · 20/06/2012 23:27

"Can I come up for a chat?"

"Erm, no, I'm in the middle of something."

^far more sensible and likely

Horsemad · 20/06/2012 23:27

too not to!
