I remember in th'olden days when there were no spoilers. The nation had no idea whether Deidre would choose to stay with Ken or do a runner with Mike Baldwin until it was actually broadcast. And we didn't know who shot JR.

So for those of us with no life who enjoy Corrie without spoilers, a new thread discuss our beloved soap with all its flaws Grin

Yes - I'd forgotten that. I really like the Mum now - and I think I'm the only person living who wishes that she and Owen get together. They're such opposite characters, I think they complement each other beautifully. Sad, I know!! Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/05/2012 15:58

Yes, even Eddie Windass went all soft. I definitely don't want Anna to get with Owen, even in Soapland I don't think leopards change their spots that much, he treated Eileen appallingly and hit Faye.

He should get together with Kirsty! I think she's a good actress too and it's certainly a more original storyline than many recently.

ajandjjmum · 25/05/2012 16:31

I'd forgotten he got together with Eileen - so incestuous in that street! Grin

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 25/05/2012 17:18

just watched last night's - i'm likin the storylines this week. does anyone else think that kirsty's scary dad look a bit like an older version of frank.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/05/2012 17:40

i thought he looked a bit like Sinbad/Jerry Morton, but, you're right, there was a bit of Frank about him. Same sort of vile personailty too by the looks of him.

LineRunner · 25/05/2012 19:30

Here we go, haven't watched it for ages. Thanks for helping me keep up these past two weeks!

TheScottishPlayer · 25/05/2012 23:42

So right, re: horrible families that turn in to likeable characters. It'll be interesting to see how the Kirsty storyline plays out. I hope they're not going to make her an angry parent once the baby arrives.

Disclaimer: Not Real

Does Leanne have any chance of custody of Simon. When she married Peter would she automatically have adopted Simon or does that have to be a seperate process?

Would the courts give her residency over his father (alcoholic) and Carla (alcoholic, new relationship and Simon doesn't like her)

And don't forget Leanne was bonking Carlas DH and he kidnapped her in the boot of his car then died.
Now Carla is with Leannes DH.

charlottecasiraghi · 26/05/2012 02:31

No, she wouldn't have gained automatic parental responsibility when she married Simon's dad nor did she adopt him.

Don't know if she'll be successful but believe it would costs her several thousand pounds to take the action she is doing.

Disclaimer: it is true!

LineRunner · 26/05/2012 07:54

I thought the CAFCASS lady with Simon looked strangely real.

Lozario · 26/05/2012 14:14

You could tell Simon was reading his lines there though. Peter is being so unreasonable but I also agree that Leanne has changed dramatically into a saint. Easy to forget what she's been like before.

GnocchiNineDoors · 26/05/2012 15:39

Anyone think something's going to happen between Maria and Marcus?

whatkungfuthat · 26/05/2012 16:31

Gnocch, I thought that may be the way this is going. I hope not though.

LeeCoakley · 26/05/2012 16:39

Predictable story last night with Aiden, it was so obvious from the beginning that he wanted Marcus. I wish they wouldn't fill in gaps with pointless stuff like this. Yes, Maria and Marcus are close, Sean is too much of an old woman now to be likeable.

Wingedharpy · 26/05/2012 22:21

I like old women!!
I think it's Sean's old womanishness that makes him likeable - interspersed with some stroppy divaishness.
Do agree though that Corrie is generally in a down-turn at the mo but it will pick up - it always does.

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 26/05/2012 22:34

yes I keep thinking Maria and Marcus have a wee spark,

LeeCoakley · 29/05/2012 08:17

Whoever scripted the David/Kylie/Eileen/Paul arguement over the non-sale of the house needs shooting! It's HER house for gawd's sake, they haven't even viewed it yet and they are threatening her! And Gail shouting about them taking a day off work to get a mortgage - so WHAT????? I kept expecting someone to jump out and shout 'Candid Camera!!' it was so bizarre.

GnocchiNineDoors · 29/05/2012 08:36

Yes, it was naff scriptwriting and naffer acting. Loved Eileen's cheeky laugh at the very end though Grin

whenskiesaregrey · 29/05/2012 09:18

As if you would stand up at your wife's funeral and go on about how hard it was to look after her and all the strange things she would do?!

whatkungfuthat · 29/05/2012 11:56

It was Gail's "you haven't heard the last of this" that was so odd! Terrible.

buttons99 · 29/05/2012 13:17

I thought the end of last nights episode with Eileen and Paul was lovely....actually I think Paul is lovely Blush Blush I know all the he was horrible to Eileen when Lesley died but I think he is a genuinely nice guy.

Off to hide under a blanket now confessed Wink

LineRunner · 29/05/2012 13:23

I have to say I have always found Paul a tad wooden.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 29/05/2012 17:57

Just watched Monday on itvplayer, and have to say as someome who loathes Paul, I found him a more sympathetic character now, tho' can't say I'm overjoyed at him joining the street which seems to be implied. But did like the various tensions, like Eileen cutting out of work, the debacle over the house , Tommy quickly improvising, Karl (ugh!) quickly improvising, Mary & the Improving Film quite engaging. As others have said, obnoxious characters have their edges filed off on the street, and am wondering if the little brat Faye will come to be Mary's protege in the future (as per Hayley/Becky & Fiz, Tina/Rita (and off-topic, Linda Snell & Kate in the Archers Grin)

rollingfog143 · 29/05/2012 18:20

I think Paul is lovely too Blush

Moving on .. I thought that Lesley's sister had looked after her (and was doing so when Paul met Eileen) but then went to live in Wales. Or did I imagine that?

theliverpoolone · 29/05/2012 19:26

I quite like Paul too, but I thought that going from burying your wife (and the circumstances of her death) to laughing in the street about moving in with Eileen - all on the same day - was very unrealistic. As has been said before about storylines - it was too much too quickly.
