I do a bit Kendodd.

I am, also, a bit Hmm that she was allowed to 'potter in the pool'. I bet that not a lot of women who are 2-3cm with meconium are allowed to do that!

bringmesunshine2009 · 15/02/2012 21:33

If she is a MW and thinks an epidural is a failure I wouldn't want her to deliver my babies

Dontgetpithywithme · 15/02/2012 21:33

If I ever had another baby, I'm claiming I'm a mw!

My (female) consultant for my subsequent births said every female consultant she knew had an elcs.

working9while5 · 15/02/2012 21:33

I don't think she's a pain.. it must be a weird experience to know the theory of birth and have all these notions about birth from watching it as an outsider and have to do it in front of your colleagues. If I ever needed services from someone in my profession, I wouldn't choose my colleagues - I would go elsewhere. I think she's idealised it quite a lot, like many women do, and she had a very fixed idea of the birth she wanted. Which is a shame for her.

ImpatientOne · 15/02/2012 21:33

you can talk about it all you like working but that full on action shot was too much!

sodapops hand holding here! albeit a bit cold and sweaty

I am TTC and the nausea sickness is def the scariest part for me Hmm

whydontwehaveasharpknife · 15/02/2012 21:33

SparkySparrow At least he watches it -mine goes and hides when this is on!

Tbh I'd probably be a bit annoyed if mw had a very easy birth with no pain. It's not very nice of me, but a smug mw would have driven me insane.

GColdtimer · 15/02/2012 21:34

It's telling she is saying things like "it takes so long" and "there's no chance to rest here". I think this will make her a better midwife.

CamelKnees · 15/02/2012 21:35

I really don't know how these women cope being in hospital for all that early part of labour (like midwife rather than twin mum who obvs has to be in to be induced).

Surely you're in there for bloody ever!?

Much rather be at home eating McDonalds (fat and salt as pain relief anyone? Judge all you want but it worked wonders!) and watching back to back episodes of Trash on my sky planner

nimbs · 15/02/2012 21:35

My DT2 went breech after DT1 was delivered and she had to be delivered by the dr - literally pulled out of me as she was taking so long (over an hour and half between them) - thank god I had had an epidural - felt bloody awful once it had worn off though.

RabidEchidna · 15/02/2012 21:35

I don't think saying having an epidural is a cop out or makes you feel a failure is a helpful thing to say, I had two natural births with no pain killers, but it is each to their own

ItchyChin · 15/02/2012 21:35

Coffee - don't be scared... fellow emetaphobe here, not everyone is sick - I wasn't Smile.

BertieBotts · 15/02/2012 21:35

YY the twin dad seems very immature - some of the teenage dads have seemed more grown up. She seems a bit "Aww bless him" about it too Confused

Must be weird to have a stepdad who was only 11 when you were born.

GreenEyesAndHam · 15/02/2012 21:35

TeamEdward almost as big as her ego

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/02/2012 21:35

I didn't throw up at all!

essexmumma · 15/02/2012 21:35

I dont think MW mum is being a pain. I think she has put too much pressure on herself to have a textbook birth because she is a MW. I feel really sorry for her, she almost knows too much and wants to show her husband, colleagues and future patients it can be done naturally.

It might teach her as a MW to explain to women more frequently that birth plans are all well and good but they are just idealistic if everything goes to plan. Which rarely happens.

coraltoes · 15/02/2012 21:36

I wonder whilst she was pottering on the pool was a lady being denied the use of it for established labour?
Unheard of in a busy hospital usually. Must be nice to be treated so well.

ImpatientOne · 15/02/2012 21:36

CoffeeBucks & sodapops we have to be strong! Grin We can get through this!

sodapops · 15/02/2012 21:36

Impatient i've had 2 babies. I never had any morning sickness and wasn't sick during labour either

whydontwehaveasharpknife · 15/02/2012 21:36

MW lady looks like Dawn from 'The Office'

smilesy · 15/02/2012 21:37

whydontwe I did not throw up with any of my 3 DS. My mum was constantly vomming when she had me. Have heard that it could be due to having a girl (hormones) but loads of people will now say that they threw up when having boys so its probably rubbish.

working9while5 · 15/02/2012 21:37

It is weird though Impatient, it's different to normal sickness. I find it really manageable in comparison to say, being sick after a hangover or when you are poorly. It just feels very different to me. I hope if it ever happens for you that it is as different for you as it is for me!

roundtable · 15/02/2012 21:37

This episode is touching a raw nerve with me tonight, to the point I might turn over.

Too much talk of natural births = doing well and epidurals copping out from doing it properly. :(

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/02/2012 21:37

Yes essexmumma perhaps she has put too much pressure on herself.
